On a trip filled with highlights, The Baths stood out. The trick is to get here early (or overnight) so that you can first explore The Baths before the crowds show up (and they will show up).

After you're on a mooring ball you can dinghy in part way, but you cannot dinghy up to the beach; you must swim in. (There is a rope to help less-confidant swimmers pull along to shore.) We left our fins on a rock on the beach, no problem, and went exploring among the boulders and pocket beaches. If you go in where the sign reads "Exit," basically doing the loop backwards, it's a better experience. Be sure to take the quick side tracks to Devil's Bay and Stony Bay. Then you walk up the path to the top where there is a restaurant and small gift shop (and where those arriving by car park and pay the entrance fee). Then back down the hill along the path to the beach, where really you should do it all again so you can explore the side tracks more, or take a dip in the water or linger on the beaches. Devil's Bay was particularly pretty and nice. If you're in the BVI don't miss The Baths!

Our group visited The Baths as a break in our private snorkeling charter. Our charter captain brought us up to the The Baths as close as possible to the shore and then we swam in to the beach - which was an excellent way to visit we quickly learned. We came across a very large ground-based tour group of about 200 people (we think an excursion from a cruise ship) - people that had paid probably $100 or more each, that were generally very frustrated with being herded through a site that is not really accommodating to groups greater than maybe 10. Great site to visit and get a few pictures, but would keep expectations low unless able to visit independent of a large group.

The Baths beach is beautiful and secluded. At the beach there is little shade and no rest rooms, snack hut, umbrellas or beach chairs. At the top there is a restaurant and amenities but getting to the beach requires walking on a trail through jungle on unsteady ground. Not a place to take children or to carry a lot of supplies. We were part of a group so did the mile-long loop walk. The second half of the loop was more difficult than the first half getting down to the beach. There are places where you have to squeeze between huge boulders, climb wooden stairs, do the limbo to pass through small passageways, but I'm certainly glad we did it. But I would not take children there or anyone unsteady on their feet. Also, if you are diabetic carry some sugary snack because the strenuous walk and heat can affect you. If you don't want to make the trek to the beach, there is a bar/restaurant at the top where you park and a small art studio.

Get there early and swim ashore, explore the Baths, for a delightful activity! We've cruised in BVI several times, and it's always fun to stop by the Baths!

The Baths is a natural wonder. No matter how many times I see it, I am in awe of nature. Wandering through these massive granite boulders that have been placed just right by nature to allow us to stand in wonderment, you can't help but feel so close to a supreme being.

Enjoy !
