“Good food in a unique athmosphere”

A very pleasant dinner in a particularly fascinating environment: first class service, excellent food and top level piano bar player.
Reasonably expensive.

“A uniquely wonderful dining experience”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

We love eating at the Rock Cafe. It is the most unusual and beautiful location. Service is excellent and so is the food. A truly "Virgin Gorda" experience. We are so wishing we could enjoy some of their calamari now. We enjoy calamari in Savannah but it can't match the calamari with zucchini at the Rock Cafe.

“One of our favorite places in the BVI.”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

The past two years we have had dinner at Rock Cafe. Both years the meals have been great. We did the casual pizzas the first year and more formal meal this year. The service was great and the ambiance is wonderful. Make sure you sit within the lava rocks. The piano bar was also a lot of fun.

“Delicious island food”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

We were a group of 8 and got seated outside in a beautiful outdoor dining area. I ordered the sushi and caper salad from the appetizer menu. It was delicious and a perfect amount of food for a small eater. It tasted so fresh. The service was a tad slow, but that seemed to be the case for most of the island restaurants. We got a tour of the new private tree-top dining area that is due to open in two more weeks. You can have your own private chef and waitress up there with amazing views of the island. It will be an amazing dining experience, but it will cost an additional $800 to rent.

“Disappointing experience”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

I want to be fair. We (2 adults, 3 kids) went on Christmas night and despite being told by our Concierge that we had a reservation, none could be found. While lingering in limbo outside I overheard the service supervisor complaining to the hostess about our existence, or something to that effect. This was a concern but we were seated reasonably promptly on the charming outdoor patio, which has a series of alcoves with tables, decorative boulders, a waterfall, lighting etc.

Our server seemed earnest but was not up the task. Red Alert: we were seated next to a party of 12 which had their menus and a party of 4 which had their menus. For the rest of the night, we were playing catch up to these groups, and as the evening went on, our courses became more and more delayed. Like an hour for the entrees after the appetizers, which sat uncleared the majority of the time. Like 3 hours for the whole meal. Silverware had to be requested for each course after appetizer; for dessert a single spoon was brought when it was specifically ordered to share. In summary, the atmosphere was dramatically better than the service experience.
The food was ok, not great, but of course we were weary. My son ordered a $58 surf & turf, and would have been much better off with the Italian or fish options at $24-$36. The cooking was adequate, not exceptional. The chocolate mousse was a bitter chocolate and not especially pleasing.
The place was busy and seemed crowded inside with locals. Its my understanding that it has been in business for >10 years. My impression was Caribbean pricing and serviceable food. The staff/supervisor was acutely aware that we had a lousy service experience, but all she could muster for us was an offer for two after dinner drinks...hardly a good choice with 3 children under 13 who sat there for 3 hours. A discount would have gone a long way. Remarkably, we saw our waiter a couple of days later on the beach and he gave us a coupon for 2 free drinks, which we did not use. I'm told that they are building a tree house which promises a fun outdoor dining experience. Maybe for someone else.
