“Curry Lover's?”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

The atmosphere was very comfortable. The view outside the restaurant are nothing to look at, but the food was great!

I enjoyed the Lobster Curry and would have eaten 2 or 3 plates even though the one plate was PLENTY.

Bring some friends or your family and enjoy the great service and great food.

“Excellent food, outstanding service.”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

Over the course of 15+ years, Rose Giacinto has mastered the subtle art and challenging craft of running an excellent restaurant on a small tropical island. Popular with locals, celebs and visitors moored at the nearby yacht harbor, Chez Bamboo embodies the best of Virgin Gorda's friendly, relaxed but sophisticated spirit. There's great variety on the menu. Things I enjoyed during a recent series of visits included various maki rolls, their longtime "signature dish" grouper en papillote, a salad starter of grilled romaine (all the salads are huge and easily serve two) and some first-rate barbecued ribs. And then there are delicious desserts. Most of the staff has been here awhile, and service is the best on the island. Only complaint is the occasional roar of a souped up engine when young locals zoom along the nearby road. There ought to be a law!

We thank you for your response and positive review of Chez Bamboo. All of us here take such pride in knowing that our customers enjoy the efforts we take in providing great service ambiance and dishes that please the palate. We work very hard to keep our goals and achievements to the highest standard!! I agree about the road traffic and are trying our best to solve this problem as well. Thank you for your comments and hope to see you here again very soon!

“Once was not enough...”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

So we returned for an encore! Absolutely loved Chez Bamboo. You could drive right by and not know what you were missing. Our first visit we had had a big lunch and thought we would just grab appetizers and drinks as we were very hungry. This gave us a chance to try a number of the small plates and they were all fabulous. Our favorite was a panko encrusted sushi roll. It's must try.

So our last night we decided to return to enjoy the great atmosphere/music/food. I didn't think we could be surprised but we were... the entrees were outstanding. The only issue is realizing you can't just go back anytime you want to try what you missed on this eclectic and tasty menu. This was likely the best meal we had on VG and we hit the top places according to TA. Make sure you say hello to Rose. Rose, we want to thank you for your hospitality, food and conversation. It was super wonderful visiting with you and we can't wait to get back!

“Fine food, fun atmo”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We found the food here imaginative and very well prepared -- certainly ranking Chez Bamboo as the best restaurant on Virgin Gorda's main street. The menu features an array of French, Italian and Asian dishes, along with house and island specialties; the wine list is quite ample, with affordable options. Ambience includes dim lighting, punctuated by jazzy murals and a little dance floor. Prices overall are a bit higher than you'd expect in the States, but that's what you'll find an any sit-down restaurant on the island.

The Lobster Curry somewhat overwhelmed the small portion of lobster; however, the Duck and Noodles, and our appetizer of Majool dates stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon were first-rate. The same can be said of the TLC by those running the place: the bartender came out to make sure his Mojito was not too sweet (it was not), and the personable owner, American ex-pat Rose Giacinto, made it a point to visit every table.

This casual, comfortable establishment clearly attracts locals as well as boaters and other tourists: the night we were there, it was visited by a young male chorus of Christmas carolers -- endearing and great fun.

Chez Bamboo is just across the street from the island's harbor. There's plenty of parking nearby.

“Very Good”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

This restaurant is on the main road in Spanish Town and you can miss it if you aren't looking. The restaurant itself has two sections to it and is really fun and eclectic inside. I thought the menu was creative and varied enough to offer us an island meal that was more inventive than the standard frozen burger patty + fries found around the island. Behind Coco Maya, this place delivers. The service was fast and friendly. We shared the thai green curry mussels (holy spicy) which were full of flavor. I had the grilled romaine, which was OK and hubs had the seared tuna platter that was prepared well (except for a dish of white stuff (mayo?) that I wasn't sure what it was intended for. A hungry person would not have been satisfied with the tuna platter- it was 6 thin pieces of seared tuna plus a shredded iceberg lettuce salad. We got some warm pita chips and warmed hummus - frankly the hummus tasted old. Hummus doesn't need to be warmed unless you are trying to conceal something. I make it at home all the time and its best served fresh or within a day of making it. I would definitely come back and try some more of the main dishes based on my first experience there.
