“Blown Away”

We rented the Sun Downer for 2 weeks for my 60th Birthday. The owner contacted me immediately upon my deposit and set all wheels in motion. Suzie, the property manager met us at the ferry to take us to the house. Two words BLOWN AWAY. from the moment you walk through the front gate the view is stunning. We had 7 people in our party the 1st week and 10 the 2nd week and everyone was more than happy with the arrangements and facility. We had a great time in a clean, beautiful house. I would recommend it to everyone.

“Just okay...”
Reviewed March 18, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We spent 8 nights here with another couple. The "compound" is private and large. We stayed in the 2 bedroom/1 bathroom cottage. Susie, our contact in Tortola, was excellent. She picked us up at the ferry terminal, helped us get our rental car, and got us settled, even had stocked the kitchen with a couple bottles of wine, milk, butter, bread, coffee, tea, etc.
The good:
The view is exceptional.
The "L-shaped" pool is nice.
Lots of towels available, both bath and beach.
Privacy
Safe area
The not-so-good:
Driveway to enter is treacherous
Trucks start barreling up the hill below 4:30 to 5 a.m. so forget about sleeping! It's extremely noisy!
Wi-Fi is a hot spot that ran out of gigs twice, so no internet until Suzie could re-up it.
No soap in our shower
Ran out of toilet paper!
Could use a good cleaning...the door to the kitchen is filthy from fingerprints

Though the view is beautiful and it is located very near the grocery store and Road Town, I would select a villa on the west or north shores for a more serene stay. I feel it was way overpriced for what we got.

Many thanks for your good comments.
On the not so good, you were extremely unlucky to have trucks drive by so early in the morning, we have now changed the wifi so that it is automatically topped up without interruption of service, and apologies for supplies running out, we pride ourselves on the house being well equipped and supplied.

“Simply Amazing!”
Reviewed January 29, 2016 for a stay in December 2015

I cannot say enough good things about Ralph's home on Tortola. We traveled as a group of 6 (three couples) and we were all completely blown away with the property. From the second we walked in through the front gate we could see the amazing almost 360 degree views.

Suzie, the on site property manager was more than accomodating and helped with car rentals, groceries, calling the ferries for us and more. It was great to have her on call if we needed anything although they took care of most things before we could even ask about them!

What I wasn't fully aware of was that the property is actually three separate buildings-The master bedroom connected to main living area and kitchen, the two queen size rooms were in their own building off the pool and then their was the guest house up top. This was quite an exciting surprise when we arrived because it gave everyone their privacy. The Kitchen had literally anything you could want and we made dinners at home every single night.

This is the perfect property for groups that want to get away from it all and enjoy their own views an private pool. I highly recommend this property, you won't regret it!

“Fantastic house in central location”
Reviewed December 14, 2015 for a stay in December 2015

We spent a week with 4 work colleagues at Sundowner House, as it offered much better value compared to local hotels. Turned out the accommodation, as well as the booking and customer service experience was far better than we experienced previously at hotels.
The owners were very quick in responding to any questions during the booking process. Once booked and prior to arrival there was regular contact to ensure our arrival was as smooth as possible, with arrangements including meeting at the airport to supply of a welcome pack (food and drinks to get started for first 24 hours). We also had some last-minute additional requests the week before arrival, which were all resolved for us the next day.
The house is about 10 minutes from the centre of Road Town, and about 20 minutes from the airport. The house is a short drive away (up a steep hill) from the main road, which most of the time you down really hear, unless an old and fully loaded Mack truck goes up the hill or a cigar speed boat goes past when dark. The driveway easily takes 3 cars.
The house itself was very well equipped. I don't believe there wasn't anything we couldn't find. The kitchen is fully equipped and cupboards are stocked with most cooking ingredients, and you replace what you finish. Plenty of choices whether to eat inside or outside. We mostly ended up eating outside, as the views from the terrace are pretty cool. The terrace, and 2 of the bedrooms, overlook Road Harbour and the Sir Francis Drake Channel, with its clear blue waters, plenty of sailing activity and regular cruise ship traffic.
The bedrooms all have A/C, other rooms have fans.
The pool is nice for a quick dive to cool down and a few strokes, but probably not long enough for a proper workout. The pool is also very deep, with no shallow parts (apart from few steps) from children. This wasn't a problem for our group, but something I did think about as a parent.
Most of the beaches on Tortola are on the north coast, and as this house is on the south coast, they are all a little bit of a drive away. Brandywine Bay and its beach are round the corner, but hasn't got the same appeal as north coast beaches.
Great views, very comfortable rooms, fantastically equipped and superb support from the owners/local agent, which means our staff was very smooth and very enjoyable. Recommend to everyone and would certainly book again when in the area.

“Great place to stay. Convenient location, stunning views!”
Reviewed December 5, 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Pro: Roomy and cozy vacation house near Road Town. Right on the main road too! Fabulous view from the balcony, pool and from the master bedroom. Daily sunset views guaranteed (weather permitting) Hot water and A/C in good working order. Washer and Dryer in the house. Con: Dishwasher is old and not working properly. Tricky bend and slope in the driveway too.

“Wonderful home, everything you need for a perfect stay on Tortola!”

We spent a beautiful week in this lovely home which is perfectly perched on the hillside, with wonderful access to everything on the island. Only a couple of minutes to the beach. The photos don't do it justice, it's better than photos could represent it. You can see the water from every room. The deck and pool are massive and inviting. The kitchen is perfectly stocked for any number of guests. Outside, they have thought of everything you could want including deck chairs, an outside dining table and cozy wicker chairs, endless beach towels. There's maid, pool and landscape people who keep it perfect visiting once while your're there. You can hear the waves crashing into the surf and see the twinkling lights of Road Town -- take it all in! We loved it and will return as soon as we can! It was an honor to be your first guests!
