Which is a really nice place to have a casual sandwich or get take-away. We had chicken salad on two different types of breads; both were excellent and quite large for the price. Our friends had veggie sandwiches and were just as pleased. The ladies preparing the food were very pleasant and helpful, explaining the different bread choices, as well as describing the specials which were posted on a board.
The place was quite clean, and there was a large selection of pastries and deserts, as well as a wide range of beverages and wines.
I would highly recommend the French Deli.

“Simple, inexpensive, tasty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2013

Ate lunch here after wrapping up our first bareboat expedition from Tortola / Road Harbour. Was recommended by the guys at BVI Yacht Charters as it was walking distance from their location. Our guy there said it was better than any of the lunch places in town, so we were sold. Did not disappoint. Pastries looked really nice too.

“Disappointing.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

We were recommended by a friend to visit this deli and it is handy for provisions being quite near to one of the biggest supermarkets and wholesalers in Roadtown. Coming from the Uk and travelling extensively in France, Italy and other European countries, I had expectations of a place purporting to be a French delicatessen. The cold meats and cheeses appeared to be acceptable and we decided to stop for a coffee and croissant/pastry. The few tables downstairs were occupied so we were directed to the mezzanine where there were a few more, all free. The mezzanine has nothing to recommend it other than it enables the deli to have more seating. If you are having a quick business meeting over a coffee and you don't care about the surroundings then you might be satisfied. However what was more disappointing was the pain au chocolate and the croissant, both stale and the bitter coffee served in paper cups. We returned our food and the staff accepted our complaint and threw away the food and didn't charge. We hadn't asked for coffee "to go" and as in all good establishments we expected china cups or mugs. So we hope things improve and people who visit will have a good experience of what a quality French Deli should be like. In our three week stay here, eating all over the island, this was our first disappointment.

We are sorry that you found the French Deli disappointing. We are told that for the British Virgin Islands our establishment is pretty good. It is probably the result of the merging with the Caribbean life style, more relaxed and laid back than European countries and the USA. The coffee station is mainly for “to go” self service. We also prepare very nice espressos, cappuccinos, mocha on demand with excellent Puertorrican coffee beans. We don’t consider ourselves a restaurant and only “Plat du Jours”, Soups, Salads, and various other hot items are served on proper plates and silverware.
We will look into the stale croissant and “pain au chocolat” complaint. La Baguette Bakery provides us with daily baked breads, pastries and desserts. Unlike Europe, the humidity in the Caribbean makes the crispiness in baked goods disappear. This gives the impression of being old or “stale”, as you described it. We carry six or eight of the dry pastries and when they are finished, we reorder, depending on the time of the day. Plain croissants come maybe in one dozen or dozen and half, on a busy day like weekends.
For fancy sit down dinners with wait staff, you can try Dove, Brandywine Bay Restaurant, and Charlie’s. We are just an unpretentious eatery, offering value for money food, prepared fresh in a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere. Most of customer’s reviews are positive ones. It’s hard to please everybody, but if you want to give us a second chance, we’ll be there to try and make it a positive experience, like many other patrons who visit us. We value your opinion.

Thank you for your great review and for taking the time to write it. We are delighted to learn that you enjoyed our restaurant side of the operation. Our staff is the one responsible for the good food and service you received, more than me, believe me. All I do is the PR. It was very nice meeting you both and look forward to receive that big group, at the end of your sailing vacation. Your patronage was much appreciated. And we look forward to your next visit while vacationing in the BVI.

“Excellent Breads, Meats, Pastries and Provisions”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

I ordered from the French Deli online for provisions for my week long Moorings charter. They supplied us salamis, meats, olives, cheeses, breads and pastries (both fresh and frozen dough). Everything was of excellent quality, freshness and taste. The fresh breads last almost an entire week without getting hard. You must try the frozen pizza dough, its great and really easy on a charter. Loulou is so friendly and their location is a short block away from the Moorings, Sunsail and Footloose base. I would highly recommend that you use them to get those higher end gournet supplies that cannot be found at One Stop of Riteway.
