Owner description: Anegada or the "drowned island" is completely surrounded by shallow reefs, and has become the focal point of underwater diving due to the many historic shipwrecks that litter the island's underwater depths.

“Real Island Experience”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

Did a sailboat charter around the BVI. The Highlight was Anegada Island. The place seemed untouched by tourism. The Lobster Dinner was outstanding. Loblolly beach was incredible. The water surrounding the island is amazing.

“Picture perfect island”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

This postcard picture-perfect island is hard to get to, but a "must see" before global warming submerges it forever.

The famous Anegada spiny lobster is delicious. The coral reefs are losing the fight against civilization, but still quite impressive because they're so hard to get to.

Go via a sailboat or small airplane, but go.

“Worth the sail”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

The sail to Anagada is scary thee first time you do it. Make sure your charter company allows it and make sure you have specific instructions for both avoiding the reef and entering the mooring harbor. Failure to do it right can mean running aground at best and destroying your yacht at worst.

The lobster dinners on the beach are one of the highlights of any trip to the bvi. We don't recommend swimming in the mooring field due to the potential of effluent from the other boats.

Visiting the beaches is a must, but allow time and money for the taxi rides. Loblolly bay often has large sea life to see while snorkeling. I do not recommend lugging your dive gear as you can get 90% of the pleasure just snorkeling and you don't have to worry about the hassles of renting a car, getting it back on time, etc.

Excellent trip by ferry. Beautiful water and snorkeling. Good day trip from Tortola or Virgin Gorda. Stop at the Anegada Reef Hotel and have a drink with Keith.
