“Not what we thought”
Reviewed April 18, 2013 via mobile

Our ticket said Smith's but the counter said Tortola Fast Ferry, which appealed to us after traveling all day. None of the photos on the Smith's website look anything like the boat we got on yesterday!!! It was called the Bomba Charger and looked like an old tugboat. No outside seating, although our luggage got to ride outside perched on the front of the boat. We left 30 minutes late, had the roughest most miserable ferry ride ever (even though the day was calm), and then our luggage wasn't there when we got to customs. Explore your options and don't be pressured or just follow the crowd. There must be better choices by other companies.

“Not a fast ferry or reliable”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Smith's advertises as "Fast Ferry". They aren't fast. When we arrived at the port the ferry was 15 minutes late. We left the harbor and 5 minutes into the trip, the motor went out. We had to SLOWLY make our way back to the harbor. We waited over an hour for another boat. Also, the boats are in severe need of refurbishing. The seats are worn and the plastic over the windows are filthy. Unlike the other contributor, this was not part of the fun. If you can find another ferry service, take it.

“Reliable and On-Time Ferry”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

A nice, 45 minute ride between Tortola West End and St. Thomas. Old and worn ferries, but that is half the fun. The trip will give you sea breeze and nice panoramic views. The embarking is efficient but the disembarking can be long as you have to wait for all the bags on the ferry to be unloaded before you can get off. We took a 9:15 ferry from West End and made it to the airport in St. Thomas by 10:35. If you are in a rush just make sure to sit near the exit of the ferry so you can be first through customs.

“On time service, tired boats”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

They are the older, slower service between Tortola and St Thomas. However, we left close to on time and beat the fast (later departing) Fast Ferry service to our destination. The interior of the boat we were on was in need of refurbishing - seats, windows, ceiling and trims.

“Good Fast Ferry”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Our ferry was on time, which is good! We were told not to book round-trip from St. Thomas to Tortola, wait and see what the schedule and weather is on the day you want to travel. I would pass that advice along. There have been some sad stories, we heard, but our were happy ones, safe and on time.
