Scuba diving trip exceeded my expectations. Comfortable room with plenty of places to relax between dives. Varied uniformly tasty meals, helpful crew, beautiful scenery, easy diving .

Honestly not enough could be said about our recent trip on the Cuan Law. From the wonderful meals to the beautiful islands and dive sites it was amazing without any downtime. I'm not saying that there wasn't time to sit, relax, tan,or read a book if you wanted. But there were always activities going on and offered by the crew. Seriously, don't miss this one.

Want to go into detail because this trip had a lot of positive and negative. First let me say that the crew was superb. They worked well together and went out of their way to be helpful. Our fellow passengers were great.
The Boat:
The boat is not a dive boat. It is a sailing vessel that is jury rigged for diving. We had 13 on board and getting off the boat was a consistent challenge with only one station to put on tanks (they claim 2 side by side). I can hardly imagine what it would be like if it had the full compliment of 20 divers. Once my wife was given an almost empty tank with which to dive. She found out at depth(her fault for not checking on deck) so we had to abort the dive.
AIR CONDITIONING was poor. the AC is central only, no individual room control. The rooms were hotboxes during the day, but better at night. The main salon (also on the central system)was consistently quite warm. Understandable when there is no door to the deck (Zip door was always open). Cannot imaging what the rooms would be like during the summer.
Total of 17 dives available during the week. Selection of night dives was poor. One went to 70 ft with heavy current. That is bad selection. One night dive ended after 10pm due to late dinner.
Minor complaint. No food or fruit served between dives. First boat I have ever been on that didn't at least serve fruit.
3 times on a 2 dive set, the first dive was shallow and the second dive was deep. Seems the dive sites were selected based on where we were at any given moment without regard to the time of day.
I have done 10 liveaboards and I was not impressed with BVI diving.
Breakfast and lunch were excellent. Dinner was adequate, but not great.
I could not understand why they served pre-dinner appetizers on about half the days, but again, never served snacks between dives.

Organization of the schedule was terrible. Seemed like the prevailing attitude was the Island "soon come man". Breakfast was always late, usually as late as 8:30. That means diving was late starting. Dinner on 2 nights was after 8:30, and always after 7:30.
Sometimes there was a schedule posted and sometimes none. It did not matter because virtually nothing happened on time anyway.
It may seem that this review is harsh, and reading back over, it may well be. That is unfortunate, because we did enjoy the trip, and especially the crew, but there is a lot of work needed to put this in competition with other dive boats.

We are so sorry to hear that this was your trip experience. We happily take on board many of the points. Cuan Law is the third vessel owned and operated by Annie and Duncan Muirhead and was custom designed as a dive/sailing vessel. We have always focused on offering a great vacation with diving rather than trying to be a full live-aboard dive boat. We are so sorry that this difference was not explained fully before you joined us as we aim to offer so much more than SCUBA on a trip with us. The BVI are a stunning collection of islands and cays and the warm water, shallow sites and visibility give us conditions that are generally great for photographers, those who may have taken some time off from diving and want to try again and less experienced divers. We have some great wrecks and it sounds as if the RMS Rhone was the night dive that you mention, which does get current, but is simply too good a site to be missed. Our websites and the information we send out on booking say that we offer 3 guided dives per day, so with 5 full days that is 15, plus the two we aim for on the first day. The rest of our schedule is set aside for sailing, hobie cats, sea kayaks, beach trips etc. The dive schedule can be weather dependent and conditions were very unusual and challenging last week. We had a strong North Swell due to activity in the Atlantic and a strong easterly swell too due to wind. This did limit us regarding dive sites - much more than is usual in these generally very protected waters.
We are a little puzzled regarding the snacks and fruit. There is always fresh fruit available as we have two well stocked fruit bowls in the salon freely available to guests at all times. We also always have snack bars and candy also in the salon and available at all times.
We are glad that you did enjoy the trip overall despite the issues that you mention and thank you for taking the time to let us know where we can make improvements.

My first live aboard experience and it wowed me. The crew, meals, boat, service, equipment, diving, and even the other guests were all outstanding. If you can, make this trip happen for yourself, you'll be amazed.
