I just came back from British Virgin Islands and stayed at Rhymer's Beach Hotel on Cane Garden Bay for 3 days. Although this was my least favourite stop on the BVI's the staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and most of all you are not going to find cheaper accommodation on Tortola unless you have a boat or opt for camping at Brewer's Bay. Sure it probably needs renovations (still carpet in the rooms, cracked tiles etc) but for the money I was plesantly surprised. You have hot and cold water, air conditioning, maid service each day and cable television although that's the last thing you will be doing. You have access to many restaurants along the bay and rental services for boats, cars, diving gear just outside the door. Definitely check out Quito. He is an amazing musician and plays at Quito's Tuesday, Thursday and on Saturday. I would advise to check out the surrounding islands including Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke with the most amazing beaches but this is definitely a good starting point. It's a bit more commercialized but you still have a very local vibe which most islands in the Caribbean have lost to over development. But overall British Virgin Islands is definitely the place to go. I had an amazing time and would make the trip back in a second.
