Simply put, the accomadations were clean attractive and comfortable in great condition, attentive pleasant staff, great pool & bar, beautiful location & beach, restaurant was exceptional, convenient amenities on site. No complaints but for a few skeeters. An excellent value, we'll be back.

We stayed from June 23-June 28th 2012 in a beach front cabana. The view was breathtaking. Rum punches and towels were delivered to us upon arrival. Our room was comfortable, clean, cold, and complete with mini fridge. Staff was pleasant, except for Cheryl at the pool bar, but we did not let that bother us. We ate dinner at 1748 and the Pasta House, which was about $80/couple, comparable to Sugar Mill and Bananakeet. If you don't rent a car, taxis fares can add up ($15 a pop), but our favorite driver is Eric (284) 543-5725. He was friendly and hooked us up with great tips (mentioned below). Packed a surfboard, but the summer swell never made it to Apple Bay which is a quick 10 minute walk over the steep hill.

TIPS: - Vsit Smuggler's Cove. you can technically walk- 20 minutes (we did) or take a taxi. Pack snorkeling gear, and a small cooler with lunch and drinks. It was our favorite beach.
- Eat at Banakeet Cafe in time to view the sunset- amazing
-Take a ferry to Jost Van Dyke ($50 cash round trip per couple from West End ferry) and head to white bay beach. Grab a painkiller from Soggy Dollar. Eat a lobster quesidilla from One Love, and If you are lucky, you will meet Seddy and he'll do a few tricks to entertain you.
-Make one trip to Soper's Hole hit up the ATM, buy some groceries, carib (local beer), a quick breakfast at D Best Cup and head back to relax on the beach.

Room Tip: Beachfront cabana's have the best view, plus a hammock swings from below the porch.

My husband booked a trip to Tortola as a surprise, and after I figured out where we were going, I had to do some research. I was extremely nervous before arriving after reading so many mixed reviews about Long Bay Resort, and so we went in with minimal expectations. We are used to staying in higher end resorts and hotels, and so we do have higher than normal standards. Upon arriving to the resort, there are beautiful views of the beach, and the grounds are pretty but nothing out of the ordinary. While checking in, we were greeted with 2 rum punches, and then given a full rundown of the layout of the resort. Then, we were driven to our room, and given a tour of our beachfront suite that we were upgraded to. The ammenities were perfect; it was clean, spacious, and everything worked great. After reading some of the other reviews, I was concerned about the water pressure in the shower, but we had no issues the whole trip. My ONLY complaint about the room is that houseeeping comes a bit early in the morning (around 8:30), but they are more than happy to come back later.

We only ate at 1748 restaurant once, and weren't too excited about the limited menu and overpriced items, so we shared 2 appetizers and 2 desserts which was perfect. Another night, we ate at Pasta House which was fine. There are definitely other places on the island that offer better, more authentic cuisine at lower prices (we rented a car which was absolutely worth it). We did however eat lunch at the poolside bar every day we stayed on the resort, which was great, and reasonably priced. We were nervous about the bartender, Sheryl, we read all of the reviews about. All of our interactions with her were nothing but pleasant. She isn't the most talkative, but she was giving us tips about the island, and would always ask how our day was. We enjoyed talking to her.

Another thing I read a lot of reveiws about is the abundance of mosquitos on the resort. I bought a LOT of bugspray in preparation for this, and we didn't see a single one the entire week!

After going around most of the island, talking to several tourists, and seeing other resorts, Long Bay Beach definitely has the best accommodations in the best location for a fair price. Just be sure to bring water shoes because the ocean near the resort is a bit rocky, but nothing that kept us away!

We stayed at Long Bay from June 23-28, 2012. We bought the package on Living Social, and after reading the reviews I was not expecting much, and my expectations were met! We were upgraded from a poolside room to beachfront, which was great because there was at least one very noisy event poolside during our stay which would have been really aggravating had we been staying nearby. The poolside rooms vary from 1960's era bungalows on stilts with two rooms each (which we had) to two-level, more modern buildings with multiple units. Beachside is a real plus here, because the beach is lovely. However, there is coral in the shallow waters all along the beach which makes lots of wading and swimming difficult, but not impossible. There are lounge chairs on the beach, but they are a little tired. The good news is that at this time of year, you basically have the beach to yourself.

Our room was OK; a pretty hard king sized bed, A/C, TV with poor reception and about 4 channels, a decent bathroom with a low-flow shower--but nothing fancy. The porch outside had two plastic chairs and a little table. The whole thing could have used a facelift, but it was perfectly adequate. The rest of the property was also OK, but a little run down. A charming feature, but one that sort of sums up the place, is that there are tons of chickens with their little chicks running around all over--lobby, restaurant, lawns, etc.

The staff are what we learned is very Tortolan: they are not gushy but are very quietly funny and helpful. Every time we asked for help or advice, they were great.

The food at the resort is definitely not great; there is one restaurant that has an expensive menu that is way more fancy than a beachside restaurant should be. There is also a pool bar that has burgers, dogs, magi sandwiches, and sometimes chicken sandwiches--and that's all. We didn't find anywhere around the hotel in our five nights that served dinner for less than $100 for two people. And that doesn't include the about $30 that it costs to take a taxi virtually anywhere on the west end of the island. There are no taxi meters, so the drivers basically make up a fare--so fare to the same place can vary wildly from ride to ride/driver to driver. I would strongly recommend renting a car if you plan to explore the island or go to different beaches or restaurants.

We did spend our last two days at Cane Garden Bay, which is oriented better for the sun, no coral, and more lively, with places to get drinks and lunch, and music playing near Myett's restaurant. Lounge chairs are free and comfortable. Apparently, though, if it's a day when the cruise ship parks nearby, it's really crowded.

We took a great day cruise on the Mystique. They pick you up at the hotel and take you to Soper's Cove, where the boat is moored (and which has a good restaurant, Pusser's, and a nice grocery store as well as a few clothing/dive shops). The boat was a meticulously maintained 40+ foot catamaran, with a lovely crew of two and refreshments and all equipment for snorkeling. It was $85/person, which was less than the other choices of companies who didn't pick up at Long Bay. We went to Norman Island, snorkeled, had lunch on a fun boat, the Willie T, which is moored off Norman, and snorkeled some more. Really fantastic.

Room Tip: Upgrade to beach front.

We stayed at Long Bay for a week, June 13 to 20, 2012
Having read the reviews on trip advisor, we were pleasently surprized, and frankly could not understand some of the negative reviews we had read.
We booked a poolside room but were upgraded to an extremely spacious beachfront room with a fridge. The staff were incredibly friendly. We had a package with breakfast included.
The breakfast was fantastic, and we sampled most of the choices on the menu. Everything was really good. The hours were flexible, 7:30 til 11am, and the portoins were large. It kept us going until dinner every day.
We also ate at the restaurant on 3 of the evenings we were there. The only downside was that for some reason, on two evenings the restaurant was empty. The food was great, and the prices were reasonable. Generally between $20 to $25 for a good sized main course. Wine was from $22 a bottle.
Considering other people had written on tripadvisor that they thought the restaurants were expensive, we checked out a number of other places on Tortola, and found pretty much everywhere was the same price or more. We stopped in at Sebastians one evening to check it out, it was empty, and more expensive!
In my opinion the beach was the best on the island, and most days we had it to ourselves! The beachchairs were great, and we did not find it an issue to walk to either the right or the left of the hotel to go for a swim. The sand was like powdered sugar, and the water has to be seen to be believed.
There was mosquitos, but they were not terrible.
The only negative I have to say about our stay, was the service from the lady who books excursions. I would advise booking any day sails directly with the company that run them, as there was a total lack of communication on her part.
We would love to stay here again, and found no other place on the island that we felt matched up to Long Bay Beach Resort.

This was me and my wife's fourth trip to Tortola, we arrived this time with our daughter 11 and freiends with their two daughters, 12 and 10. This was their first trip. We arrived at the resort, check in was very fast, and the staff prepared rum punches for the adults and fruit punchs for the kids. A quick drive up the hill in our jeeps and we arrived at the house. The house was very comfortable, a queen bedroom in the main house, and a queen bedroom and two twin bedroom in guest house. All bedrooms had AC which is a must for sure for comfortable sleeping. The view was amazing looking north to Jost Van Dyke. We enjoyed both the pool at the house as well as the resort pool. Being in a tropical enviroment, there were bugs mosquitoes, but we had bug spray an off with us. Even had a small lizard in the room with us, was OK he did not make much noise! The staff was very nice, we had two meals at the resturant, both were very good, although the service was a bit slow. We had one lunch at the pool bar, quite expensive $70 for three smoothies for the girls, a water, and two burgers and two chicken sandwiches, but it was good. Smugglers Cove is an absolute must, possibly the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. We charted a boat, Kurula for the day to Jost, that was wonderful too. All and all, wonterful time, and lots of new memories made!

The hotel honored our room request and we found everything to be very nice. A nice size room close to the beach front restaurant too. Steps away from the fantastic beach. The water was a bit rough for us close to shore, but Smuggler's Cove was a five minute drive away.
We didn't use the pool, I mean, why when the Caribbean is there.

The Spa must have been on summer staff since when we tried to book a massage, no one could answer our questions since it must be a one person gig. oh well. As I said the beach at Smuggler's made up for it.

Our room had AC and a ceiling fan. Didn't really need it after dark. The porch was great to watch the water. Our room also had a fridge so we were well stocked with water. The resort has their own desalination plant, but bottled water tasted much better.

Only problem was one night and part of a morning with no hot water, but the management credited us the Energy Surcharge for the whole six nights we were there.

And again, the sunsets....
