Absolutely loved my stay at the Sugar Mill. It has lovely private rooms with fabulous amenities. The beach is just across the road. The sound of the ocean in the cove is nothing like I've ever heard before. A great place to celebrate a special occasion. Full moon party nearby every month!

We stayed in the pool suite facilities at the end of October. The outdoor shower was so nice and the living room and kitchenette were perfect. We loved our stay and especially enjoyed the dinners at Sugar Mill. A wonderful place to stay in Tortola.

Room Tip: Pool suite rooms are great

We stayed for two nights at the Sugar Mill and enjoyed every minute of it.The staff is so friendly and the food is fantastic. We wish we would have stayed another day or two. We stayed in one of the pool rooms and can definately recommend the extra cost.We are jealous if you are planing to go there. Have a great time.

We stayed here for 4 days as three adults in the plantation house up stairs.
As reported before the evening food is good, not so much for breakfast and lunch - but the dinner is a big jump up in quality/preparation.

The room does feel very traditional and was our favourite room setup of the whole 3 weeks in the Caribbean.

The biggest downside is the shower - its real bad and needs sorting out. It's a dribble fine spray which barely takes the soap off you - forget trying to get shampoo out. - I did report to the front desk and got a feeling it was a know issue - which I worry mean they will not be fixing soon. But fingers crossed becaused this is a nice resort.

The private beach is nice but is close to the road and the plantation room over looks the road but has a great view. A road here is not like London at rush hour but every now and then a booming music car drifts past.

The service was up and down, sometimes great and hugely friendly, other times you got the feeling you were interrupting someone's nail polishing. But we found this throughout the caribbean a bit.

We recently visited the Sugar Mill before Xmas, in Tortola. It was a great experience, very nice service, wonderful food at the restaurant every time - we never really left there for food, we didn't have to, the food was outstanding! It was probably the best food we have ever eaten in the west indies...Our room was nice, large, with a decent bathroom, and very clean and neat and tidy every day. We had a good package deal, including a dinner with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot champagne, a couple of breakfasts (good, not great), a coupon for lunch on the beach which we forgot to take advantage of, plus a bottle of rum and a reduced car rental for four days. The car made all the difference and we really enjoyed the place. It was very relaxing and laid back but very nice. My only quibble with this place is that its on a british island and I was hoping for afternoon tea...being a brit. I certainly didn't need it but it would have been a nice touch and we've encountered this before elsewhere. The hotel is run by americans so I'm not surprised there is no afternoon tea, but it is part of the culture in the BVI's.

Room Tip: We had a room on the side of the hill and it was a great view.

Sugar Mill accommodations are spacious and clean, and the old stone-walled, open-air dining room is truly lovely and unique. But what sets this property apart and makes it a perennial favorite of return visitors is the service. This is a great place to stay when you're on your way to or from one of the other islands. The property is across a small road from the ocean, so don't expect a beach resort, but in addition to the beautiful formal dining room mentioned above, the Sugar Mill has a very pleasant dining pavillion on the water. Excellent food, charming, homey.

Room Tip: The Sugar Mill is built on a hillside. Several suites are built around the pool area, which is close...

My wife and I spent a week at the Sugar Mill. A great combination of room quality, beach access and superb restaurant. They can get busy for dinner so submit your reservation early. Scuba diving is available at Blue Water Divers which is a short drive away. We utilized a rental car and did some sight seeing. When driving, be careful negotiating the hairpin turns...just go slow. We observed two sideswiping accidents at these sharp turns. If apprehensive about driving, utilize a tour or hire a driver.
