Review of King Charters

King Charters
Reviewed April 11, 2013 via mobile

The boat, delivered by a very intoxicated guy, had broken hatches and at the time we didn't know two very unsafe conditions:
1 the starboard trim tab was fully deployed and the port trim tab full retracted. Both stuck, rusted and broken- refusing to budge. Only so much could be done to trim the boat and in the wavy conditions of the channel, the narrow hull and constant bow down created dangerous yaw. The king guy said he would refund some of our $400 but he came and got the boat and snuck off like a thief with no apology bor redress
2. The port engine wouldn't start. After looking into it it was starved of fuel because the electric fuel pump leads were completely disconnected and sitting in salty bilge water.

We have done day charters with King four times in the past three years, most recently in December 2012. Each time we rented one of his Bradleys and had him provide a captain as well. The boat and captain were always ready on time at 9 am and we would cruise around the BVI until about 4pm. We would usually cover a lot of water in one day, e.g. snorkelling at Norman Island, snorkelling over the Rhone shipwreck, Cooper Island, the Baths, lunch at Saba Rock, visit to the sand bar near Necker Island, etc. etc. Each trip varied because there are so many islands, reefs and more to see in the BVI. King charges you a fixed price for the boat and captain plus fuel. If you cruise around as much as we did and burn a lot of fuel, the total will come to about $800. King ain't cheap but you get what you pay for. I notice some of the negative reviews but I have never had a problem with King. If you want to have fun and see a lot of the BVI in one day, King is the only way to go.
Tip: bring a few drinks and a bag of ice.

We rented a 30' power boat with a skipper for the day and could not be happier with this experience! We arrived on Tortola on a cruise and wanted to spend the day avoiding the rest of the crowd and had located King Charters online prior to our day there. Emails were returned promptly and the boat we requested was ready and waiting when we arrived at the marina that morning. We had 10 in our party and there was plenty of room on the boat for us and our gear. Our plan was to head to Jost Van Dyle for the day - Stefan, our skipper for the day, advised that we wait a couple hours to let the cruise crowd depart so he took us around the shore of Tortola then off to Sandy Cay and Sandy Spit where we spent time on our own little deserted paradise for about an hour. We then toured all around the shore of Jost Van Dyke arriving on White Bay beach just around 11:30 - perfect!! We spent several hours there enjoying the beach and several of the bars there - don't miss the Soggy Dollar and their famous Painkiller! Around 2pm it was off to Norman Island where Stefan told us the snorkeling and caves were not to be missed - he was right! Then to top off the day he took us to an awesome floating bar "Willy T's" where we were able to enjoy some tunes and cocktails before Stefan returned us right to the cruise ship pier right on time. Great day - the boat was great, the skipper willing to take you wherever you pleased and made great recommendations we would have missed out on otherwise! Thanks for a great day!!

Every part of our experience was a hoax. From the captain faking the motor malfunctioning to King lyiing about the over all price. He tried to take advantage everyway he knew how and was very rude from the get go. When he was challenged on his service and attitude he threatened to have us kicked off the island. We did not get our moneys worth and he knew it. Our trip was cut short by less than half a day and he tried to force us to pay for the whole thing. DONT USE KING CHARTER. He is Bad news and will take advantage of you.....
