“Just Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2014

We spent a week at this awesome place and it was just perfect. Christian and Bridgette have built a very special place. I cannot forget about Terry who is the Maitre D and does all the special things like help carrying our luggage up to our room and suggesting which beach to go to etc.We rented the Nacre suite which has a comfy king bed , large dressing room , outdoor but covered eating area, full size fridge, 2 burner stove , microwave and lots of pots and glasswear. Our unit was cleaned spotless every day with clean towels and also beach towels. we had a nice hot tub and a large lounge area that could accommodate at least 10 -15 people if you wished. We were 5 minutes from Orient beach and 5 minutes from Grand Case. They even have a little pool that we would go to late in the afternoon and lounge around there for awhile. We were 5 minutes to Simply market for groceries and a 2 minute walk to a little bakery. The grounds are beautiful and are kept up by a gentleman who loves plants. We also ate at their restaurant which is also a 5 star. I could go on and on but if I do then everyone will book a room at this place and we will not be able to stay there again. When we go back to St. Marten we will not stay anywhere else unless it is free and I still might stay at this very special place.

Excellent property and restaurant! Me and my husband stayed there for 1 week last month and enjoyed every moment. Christian, the owner upgraded us to Nacre Suite and it was a very good deal . We had a small kitchen outside and a beautiful lounge area. My husband rented a car and it was really easy to get around. Loved the place and our friends who stayed at Radisson wished they stayed there too! It's definitely a quiet and romantic place.

This was our third stay at Sol e Luna, the last time being 5 years ago. The owners have clearly invested in the hotel side of their business, which also includes a fine restaurant. The suites have been beautifully upgraded. Due to availability, we split our time between two of them: Mango, the largest, and Nacre, smaller but very charming with its hot tub and beautiful platform bed. Both were lovely experiences. We arrived late, but the owner was there to greet us and show us around our suite, which was more of a condo than a hotel suite. Maid service was friendly and reliable. The little boulangerie down the road is still there to provide cafe au lait, croissants, and the occasional encounter with a baby goat. We love this place. A little out of the way, but definitely a gem.

Room Tip: Use the web site to pick the room/suite you want. They all have nice bathrooms and at least some ki...

We had an amazing stay in the Jasmine Suite at Sol E Luna Dec 31-Jan 7. We parked our rental inside the gates of the property, were shown our suite -- relaxed 'check in' -- definitely kind of thing where you poke around for someone to let you in, but that's the way of the island! no huge lobby desk with 8 customer service reps behind it.The outdoor living area was perfect -- we had a two-burner cook top, fridge, sink, cabinet space, coffeemaker, toaster. We had breakfast (baguette from the Boulangerie Cul de Sac down the street, or Le Moulin in Grand Case; cheeses from the Simply Market right at the roundabout) every day sitting outside looking over the mountains and Etange Chevrise (small lake right outside Sol E Luna property). It was hard to peel ourselves away to head to the beach/other excursions! Other reviews mentioned 'stolen' wine from the outdoor area, but we had zero problems. Another couple was in the suite directly adjacent (Nacre) but we rarely crossed paths. Definitely feels like a private villa. Plunge pool was very nice too -- we only used it once because we're beach people but it was fun to jump in after a long hot day. One minor thing: didnt bother us but it could bother some -- you cant entirely close off the bedroom from the bathroom. the wall doesnt go all the way to the ceiling; theres about 3-4 ft -- not that you can see over but it's not like shutting the door leads to total privacy.

Had dinner in the restaurant our second night. Decor is lovely. most of the tables are in the open air which is nice. I had a sweetbread mushroom "open ravioli" which was basically two sheets of pasta filled with morels, shitakes, an amazing sauce. excellent. what really stood out (in a trip full of above-average food) was the dessert sampler -- creme brulee, chocolate mousse, vanilla ice cream with this kind of espresso granita (?), lemony custard cake -- i'm not doing a good job of description but they were all so well done!
Overall, if you are someone who doesn't want constant swim up bar, cruise-style entertainment, appreciates a calm atmosphere, hands-off but available management, classy but understated decor/vibe, and is willing to have a little adventure --- definitely need a car in order to get out and see the island from Sol E Luna -- this is the perfect place! We would go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Jasmine was beautiful and has the most outdoor space - sunbathing area w two chaises, and a table an...

We stayed for five nights in August and loved it! Christian, the owner, upgraded us to the Suite Vanille and it was gorgeous! It was the most romantic place we stayed at in the Caribbean. We had a wonderful sitting area/lounge outside as well as a table and amenities to make food if we chose. The rooms was immaculate and it was beautifully decorated and both charming and very romantic. The location great and it is very easy to get around. We hope to come back and stay there again soon!

We were delighted to find Sol e luna for dinner. What a treasure of a place! The vibe is sophisticated Caribbean and the food is fabulous. Presentation was lovely and the service excellent. As NY and Boston self professed 'foodies' we were delighted to find Sol e Luna. WIne list was quite good but expensive. Tuna carpaccio light and lovely, Sea bass melted in my mouth and the veal with foie gras--too good to be true!

My husband and I have been to this guest house twice. It is very clean, quiet but close to many activities and beaches. There is a small private pool for an early swim, for an after the beach dip, or for an entire "at home" day!!!We especially love that this guest house is close to Grand Case and Marigot which enables us to select from a huge variety of eating establishments in the evening with an easy ride to and from dinner.I would highly recommend renting a car to get around though. Also, from this place, it is an easy walk to Orient Beach for a bit of early morning exercise or a late afternoon sunset stroll.

Room Tip: Jasmine is the best!
