This is one of the "Lolos" in Grand Case. A lolo is apparently a locally-owned-and-run casual restaurant serving up char-grilled chicken, ribs, and lobster accompanied by hearty sides like rice and beans, mac and cheese, and cooked vegetables. I got Conch Creole, with chewy bits of conch in a nice mild creole pepper sauce.
The friendly man sitting across from me asked whether I'd like hot sauce, and said that they serve the food without a lot of spice so that they can accommodate those who prefer mild foods, but there's always a bottle of hot (HOT) sauce on the table for the more adventurous eater. I poured on some locally-made pepper sauce and it really pushed the food to a much more enjoyable level!
It turns out the helpful man was the owner, Scooby, himself. He and I talked about the business (doing well, best when cruise ships are in port) and the benefits of island life. After a couple of cold Caribs and the pumping reggae beats being played by the DJ, I was feeling those island benefits and looking forward to my next visit to Scooby's.
