Love this hotel and location! Breathtaking view of St.Martin's beautiful Gran Case.
Owners Marc & Kristin were really nice and very helpful. It's been two weeks and I miss it so much already. Busy planning our next trip!!!

Just back from a one week stay at L'Esplanade in Grand Case, St Martin. This was a great little hotel set in a hillside overlooking Grand Case, town and bay, and the Island of Anguilla. Our room was on the 2nd floor and had a balcony equipped with 2 chaise longues for relaxing in late afternoon to watch the sunset and after dinner with a drink, and a small table with two chairs which was ideal for breakfast and lunch with a view. The room itself was equipped with a comfortable king sized bed another table and chairs and an entertainment centre ( TV, DVD and CD players and radio) which we never needed. There was a small library of about 20 books in the room and a bigger library in the lobby along with a DVD library for those who need entertainment beyond the great view and Grand Case restaurants. The room also came equipped with an extensive kitchen (oven, stove top, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, cutlery and some cooking utensils). We used these facilities for breakfast mainly but did cook a pizza for lunch one day, but the corkscrew got the biggest workout. The bathroom was quite roomy with plenty of shelf space and the shower had a "rainfall" showerhead. The only, very minor criticism was the location of the hairdryer - the power cord had to stretch across the top shelf of a cabinet so we had to be careful not to knock off the water glasses. Late afternoon we would lounge around the pool because the sun was quite bright and hot for lounging on the balcony. The pool was well maintained and had a swim-up bar.
The location of the hotel was very convenient for walking access to the town and all the wonderful restaurants; it took about 5 minutes along a well-lit path through the hotel grounds to reach the main street and about a further 5 minutes to reach the central restaurant area. We tried only four of the multitude of restaurants - felt Le Pressoir excellent and worth 2 visits, the Bistrot Caraibes and Le Cottage also excellent but were disappointed with Le Tastevin (good service but uninspiring food) and would recommend avoiding L'Escapade (poor service).
I would recommend renting a car for your stay for seeing the island and simply for convenience. We rented through the hotel rather than use one of the main franchised agencies. This proved to be ideal - rent for 7 days and pay for 6 deal plus we were picked up at the airport and driven to the hotel and at the end of our stay were driven back to the airport - this avoided waiting for shuttles to and from the airport terminal to the agency sites. The convenience of the car allowed us to visit the two main towns - Marigot (cute and relatively quiet) and Philipsburg (noisy, crowded with cruise-line passengers (there were 4 large cruise-ships in port and, while the main street is "pedestrian only" it is just crammed with stores selling jewellery, watches, cameras, designer clothes etc. and is set up to separate the cruise-ship passenger from their dollars in the mistaken idea that they are getting a good, tax free deal, but any items we checked could be obtained at the same price or lower at home. The car also enabled us to go out to lunch when we wanted and found a great little restaurant called Le Taitu near Mont Vernon that served great food at a great price - it seemed very popular with the locals, always a good sign. The availability of the car also allowed us access to a local supermarket (5 min drive) to purchase baguettes, cheese, a pizza to cook in the room, wine and any other supplies you might want.
About 5 years ago I stayed at Hotel L'Esplanade with my husband, and I just returned from a long weekend there with my adult daughter. Loved it both times! Since I was going with my daughter, I wanted a room with a little "space" for each of us. The loft rooms offer a king bed above and a sleeper sofa in the living room area below. In addition, although we had to share the shower in the bathroom off of the loft area, there was a 1/2 bath below for my daughter's use.
Hotel L'Esplanade does such a nice job of pampering. A little welcome basket in our kitchen included some teas, honey, a baguette, etc. "just to get you started." Refreshing fruit water is always available in the open-air lobby, and a few bottles of "help yourself" wine are placed in the lobby at dinnertime. Cheers!
The pool is just beautiful, as are the grounds. Since the hotel is located on the side of a hill, there is a lush footpath that leads down to restaurant row. Contrary to a few other reviewers, we found this a delightful walk in the evening.
The web site says they "prefer" a 5-night stay in season, but don't let this stop you from trying for a shorter stay if that is your desire. We were able to arrange a 4-night stay with no problem.
This was a beautiful spot...and I'd be thrilled to visit again!
Just returned from a long weekend at Hotel L'Esplanade. Had a Loft Room (Room 8), which was right off the lobby (normally not ideal), but given the size of the hotel, it was not an issue. The room, staff, and services were all great. The location as well is very nice: a 5 min walk into Grand Case, and all its restaurants, 5 min to the Simply supermarket, and 10-15 min over to Orient Bay or the parking for Pinel. It's not ideal if you are planning to spend time on the Dutch side, but if you're looking to stay in the North, it's great.
We arrived on New Year's Eve and the hotel staff greeted us with a bottle of champagne to kick off the new year. We have been vacationing in St.Martin since 1995 and stayed in many different places on the island. I'm not sure that any room is worth $600.00 a night but L'Esplanade was exceptional. Our room had an oversized loft and was clean and comfortable. Housekeeping was done in a timely manner and the room was equipped with all the essentials. The availability of a complimentary daily newspaper was a nice perk and of course the view was terrific. Internet connectivity which was a must for us was reliable unlike other places we have stayed at in St.Martin.One slight drawback is the early morning and early evening droning of the planes landing and taking off from the nearby airport. Overall; high grades!
We loved this little hotel. So nice to be on the french side where my wife could be on the patio overlooking the water completely topless just enjoying the warm wind and smell of the ocean. lovely to sleep sans clothes and leave the sliding doors open to enjoy the sounds and smells of the ocean. A wonderful bakery is nearby and the pastries brought to the room every morning were amazing! Quiet and clean!
