“First time at Grand Case Beach Club”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2009

Having decided to come to Grand Case Beach Club then read some of the negative reviews, were a little worried that we had made a mistake. Arrived after an 8 hour flight from London then a 6 hour wait in Antigua airport, something to be missed, to a check in that took all of 10 minutes so we could get to eat before the cafe closed. The check in staff and the staff at the front desk were wonderful. Two beaches, one quite small but our favourite, very attentive beach boys who ensured that you had a sun lounger where and when you wanted it.
Had seen some comments about the walk to the resturants in Grand Case being quite frightening...didn't have any problems at all though most nights have to admit was a bit lazy and drove the half mile.
Grand Case Beach Club is a wonderful laid back and clean hotel in a fabulous position. The resturant staff were fabulous and the cleaning staff deserve all the praise that they get.
One slight negative is tht the one bedroomed room is really a sudio but who cares, the place is just great

Having stayed here 5 times I decided I should write a review.
This hotel is one of my favorites! The rooms are clean, spacious, and mine always had a kitchen which I loved. The location is great- you can easily walk into Grand Case and enjoy a fantastic dinner and the beach at GCBC is so pretty, relaxing, and calm -making it perfect for small children. You will not be disappointed with this gem! Can't wait to go back..

My girlfriend and I traveled to Grand Case in August 2007 and stayed at the Beach Club, it was gorgeous. We loved the views and the beaches and each day the room was cleaned they placed little flowers on the towels and pillows which was charming. We could walk to all the best restaurants, and we explored the rest of the island by bus. We are foodies so our main goal was to be somewhere relaxing and beautiful with great restaurants, and that was what we got with Grand Case. My souvenirs were stacks of menus. I recommend using the car rental service offered to take a day to drive around and check out the rainforest.

I’d like to give this hotel a “5” but can only give it a “4” because the front office staff was rude, condescending, and arrogant. I felt every time I went into the office, it was an imposition. However, the security guards were great (Benjamin was our favorite) and the maid service was very nice and accommodating.

The Sunset Café restaurant was really good and the wait staff were great. The view was incredible … I could have sat there all day!

There is a good selection of excursions that you can sign up for and the activity staff is very helpful. I enjoyed the 2 hour snorkeling excursion to Creole Rock … we actually went with a dive master!

We also went on the Anguilla/Prickly Pear excursion and really enjoyed ourselves. There is a coral reef there for snorkeling if you wish.

Some things I wish I had known:

- If you reserve a 1BR, please note that some of the bedrooms are up a flight of stairs from the living room. If you have kids or are slightly disabled, you might want to ensure you get a bedroom that is on the same floor as the living room & kitchen.

- According to the manager, GCBC considers ocean view and ocean front to be the same thing. If you want oceanfront, stay away from building 7. We were in 712 at first but sitting on the balcony, we were looking at another building, not the ocean. We had to stand up and look left to see the ocean … I call that an ocean view but GCBC calls it oceanfront. We asked to be moved and though the office was most annoyed, we were moved to a real ocean front room which had a gorgeous view.

- There are no alarm clocks in the rooms; however, wake-up calls were reliable.

- If you ask the front desk to make an offsite dinner reservation for you, confirm that they actually did it because sometimes it wasn’t made.

But all in all we had a fabulous time … enjoy!

We just returned from Grand Case Beach Club Feb 27, 2009. It was such a wonderful, relaxing vacation. While the hotel is older and some units seem to have been renovated, we still had a great time. It is well worth the extra cost to have an ocean front room. The views are so beautiful while sitting on your balcony watching the sunset. The service was great as well. The ladies at the front desk were most helpful as well as kind & pleasant.

It was a quick getaway over a long-weekend but it was just what the doctor ordered. Beautiful views from the balcony, well-laid out rooms, good restaurants in the sweet little town nearby (the on-site restuarant was also good). It's nothing fancy, but if you're looking for a low-key beach resort, this fits the bill. The beaches aren't huge but the swimming is good (the management should be a bit more proactive about picking up some of the larger debris that have washed up in a few areas). The watersports offered are good and we had an excellent snorkeling session with one of the staff members. The swimming pool is small but quiet. Breakfast is a bit simple and I would have loved a bit of ground coffee to use in the in-room coffee makers. We had a duplex room with two bedrooms on the upper floor. On our first morning our a/c unit sprung a leak but a call to the front office brought someone immediately who fixed it. The bottom line: We spent the last night there trying to stay an extra day.

We just returned from the Grand Case Beach Club yesterday. We had a relatively nice stay. The location is superb. It is right on the beach and close to great restaurants and town. I would only give this an average review however for several reasons.

Negatives...
- The place is not as clean as it should be (bathrooms had mold) The whole place needs a serious deep cleaning.
- Tiles were cracked in the bathroom
- Fan was noisy in the bathroom
- Tiles were chipped in the ktichen
- Curtains were dirty (looked blood or dark dirt stains)
- Windows and mirrors not that clean
- Our back bedroom was near the tennis court. It seems the bright lights were on all night. The curtains did not block out the outside bright light at night.
- Television service not always available (satellite malfunction? Pop-up screen kept coming up stating card was ready to expire)
- Expensive stay for limited perks (compare to Jamaica or Mexico)
- Some of the people in the restaurant and front desk seemed harried and nervous and not laid back like you would expect on an island.
- We asked to go kayaking one day (at 2pm and were told that the kayaks were already put away)
- There is a sewer odor outside of some of the buildings
- There was a smell of a dead animal near the bar/restaurant.
- We were not given the pool access code, and the upstairs entrance is locked. Once we got in the pool was very cold, yet small.
- One of the beach areas had exposed wiring, and unfinished work (by the upper wall near the activity desk)
- And this is not the hotel's fault but the guests are not that friendly. Most everyone tries to be "invisible" (Did you ever watch people when they drive and they are alone? Some people are oblivous to the fact that other people in other cars can see them) - most of the guests at this hotel are aloof.

Positives
- There are some spots on the property that feel very private (up near the rock jetty (near the restaurant and dock)
- We had a two-bedroom ocean front unit. It was comfortable and had a beautiful view. There were lounge chairs facing the beach and ocean. And, one of the bedrooms had an ocean-front balcony.
