We spent 4 nights in mid August at the GCBC and loved it. The beach is very nice, with a beautiful view and nice warm sand. The ocean (well the Caribbean side) is a great place to swim. It almost feel like swimming in a lake.
Free longe chairs with mattress are available. There is, however, very little shade on the beach.
We went with 2 teenagers and shared a two bedroom suite. The unit was very comfortable with a well supplied kitchen (but remember that you are 200 yards from a series of great French restaurant).
The breakfast at the hotel is served at the Sunset restaurant which is a great location on the water. Breakfast was fine and service was great. Waitresses are very friendly.
We had dinner one night at the Nettuno a good but quite expensive restaurant. Another night we had dinner at La California (which will exchange your dollars for Euros 1:1 if you pay cash), it was also very good and very popular with the US crowd. Another night we ate at one of the BBQ place and it was also excellent and quite inexpensive. Another night, we went to the Marina in Marigor (a more developed city with great French shopping).

The swimming pool is ridiculously small. In general we use the pool quite a lot but the water in the bay was so peaceful that we had no problem not going to the pool.

Overall we loved St Martin and we thought that Grand Case was a good choice for our stay. We just wished we could have stayed longer.

My husband, 10 month old son, and I just got back from our vacation to St. Martin. We enjoyed our stay at GCBC and we can't wait to go back again. I must admit when we our taxi first drove into GCBC I was a little worried what our rooms would look like on the inside. Don't get me wrong the grounds and buildings are well maintained --I guess I was expecting it to look more like a Marriott type resort. I was pleasantly surprised when we walked into our room and looked out our balcony--what a view! It is definitely worth the extra $$ to get a room with a view. The rooms are large and very clean, with updated decor. We used our kitchenette daily. There are a couple of little grocery stores walking distance from GCBC and there is a very large store in Phillipsburg that has much larger selection. We found the staff at GCBC to be very friendly and helpful as well as the other guests staying there. We got a great deal on our rental car from the hotel, 25$ a day including insurance they even had a car seat for our little one. My husband kayaked out to Creole Rock, about 15 minutes from GCBC, and said there was some great snorkeling. Each night we would lay in one of the hammocks and relax under the stars, with the ocean right in front of us, and listen to the waves while swinging our little one to sleep. IF you are looking for a place with night life do not stay here. GCBC is a great place to relax and enjoy the beaches and the view. There aren't any crowds and we never had to race out to the beach in the morning to secure a chair. We visited a couple of other resorts both on the French and Dutch side just to compare and we both agree that when we visit St. Martin we will be staying at GCBC again!

We just returned from a fabulous 8 day stay at the GCBC. We had a fantastic time there. From our one bedroom loft room, we had a great view of the bay and Anguilla and saw a wonderful sunset every night. The little kitchenette in the room was perfect for storing wine/cheese/french bread for snacks every day as well as for a little additional food to go along with the delivered continental breakfast of baguettes/crossants/pain au chocolats/juice/coffee every morning. Much nicer to have it delivered as you then do not have to waste time early in the morning getting ready to go out to breakfast. The desk staff of Patsy and Christine were always pleasant and helpful. Be sure to check out the deals on rental cars at the GCBC. We were given a Toyota Corolla for $0 plus a charge of $25/day for full insurance. Couldn't beat that with a stick from what we heard others were charged for renting at the airport.

Sebastian and Daemon at the Water Sports desk were a pleasure to deal with. Whether it was giving you ideas on which excursions to do or just getting you outifitted with snorkeling gear to use for the day, they were always laughing and trying to make sure you were having fun.

We had heard some good and some bad stories about the Sunset Cafe. Just so you know, it is a completely separate outfit from the GCBC. Stories of bad service must have just been isolated occasions as we never had one. The people there were always very friendly and attentive especially Christian. The only warning I will give is that the prices are a bit high for the for the food especially with so much good food available in Grand Case. (Although I challenge you to find a better bowl of Gazpaccho anywhere)

We did two excursions from the Club, Anguilla on the Stargazer and St. Barths on the Scoobi-Doo II. We were not very happy with either one. The seas were very rough on both trips and many people got ill, and on neither was the food anything to write home about. The snorkelling in both places was very below average. We had much better snorkelling at Creole Rock and just off shore at Baie Rouge, and those were both free.

Orient Beach is always fun for a day, but Baie Rouge was our favorite. Baie Longue and Bay of Prunes are nice if you want seclusion, but remember, there are no facilities or places to purchase food/alcohol/chaise lounges so you have to bring your own. Avoid Friar's Bay at all costs. There is a foul stench in the air (Kind of like sewage) and the place to purchase food/alcohol is very expensive.

You almost can't go worng no matter where you eat in Grand Case. Our favorite there was Chez Martine. I can still taste the Orange Crepes for dessert. L'Alabama and L'Auberege Gourmand were also excellent. For a heck of a deal, get take-out from either Sky's the Limit or Talk of the Town Lolos and take it back to your patio/balcony at the club.

If you venture to the Dutch side (And there are really not many reasons to) go to Temptations restaurant. Not only was the meal phenomnol, but the service was out of this world. It's located right next to the Atlantis Casino in Mullett Bay.

The other reason to go to the Dutch side was the Celine Pub Crawl. It sails on Monday's and Wednesdays and was one heck of a deal for $55.00. They have an open bar on board and sail you around to different bar/restaurants for a taste of that place's food and a complimentary drink. The whole trip lasts about 3 hours and is tons of fun.

Can't wait to go back to GCBC!!!!!!!!

We spent two nights at GCBC prior to a sailing trip last week--thoroughly enjoyed the resort, the restaurant and the staff. We had an oceanfront studio that was more than adequate for 2 adults and our 8 year old, and when the air conditioning unit broke they quickly moved us to a one bedroom. We loved Grand Case, Il Nettuno for dinner, lolos for lunch (The Sky's the Limit is an incredible value and has great food!) and French wines and cheeses on our patio in the afternoons. We enjoyed our stay so much we returned after the end of our sailing trip for another night. Make sure you know what is included for breakfast--basket of breads and coffee--everything else is extra but the food was very good. Staff was pleasant and accomodating in the resturant and the hotel. Internet servie was convenient for staying in touch. Would stay here again anytime.

It has been several years since we stayed in Grand Case. We thorougly enjoyed it, and I don't think I can think of anything truly negative to say, but seeing all those 5-star reviews made me want to comment.

Grand Case is a pleasant not-all-inclusive resort. The rooms were large and clean, with a decent kitchenette for meals if you didn't want to go out.

The beaches were a bit small but very nice, and my partner who swims better found some nice snorkelling off shore a ways.

The breakfast was poor, but really you are best to combine eating out and in the kitchen for your meals. We went to 2 restaurants in Grand Case, one advertised the greatest Caesar salad in the world, it was fine but not that good, they were both good but not spectacular restaurants. YOu can also buy lunch right near the beach in Grand Case, chicken being fried, etc.

There are some small grocery stores in Grand Case where you can get some supplies, but a trip to Philipsburg's large supermarket is best to get lots of supplies. (You can take the bus, it was $1 US and very pleasant and safe)

Someone said you need a car for the island, well probably only for half a day, it is small and a trip around it is pretty quick! Nice island, I preferred the north but lots of shopping in the south. If you get a chance to go across to Anguilla some of the world's greatest beaches are over there.

Anyway, the resort itself was fine, nothing spectacular. I think a beach view might be better, we managed to get one with a parking lot view and it was fine, it looked as if some got rooms facing away from the beach which might not have been quite as preferred. In fact, one couple who arrived with us inisited on a different resort altogether, I think they were just trying to trade up, kind of silly really, there was nothing to complain about with GC.

I would give Grand Case a 3.5, maybe even a 4, but some of the 5 star ratings were a bit much, hence my email.

What a great place!!!! After a long flight from Dallas, it was so nice to be greeted by Richard at the front desk. He was so polite and made us feel right at home. Soon after arriving, we enjoyed the first of many fabulous meals at the Sunset Café. I was a little apprehensive about the Sunset, after I had read so many bad reviews, but apparently the Sunset has fixed whatever personnel problems they had, because the people at the Sunset were absolutely the most courteous group I have ever encountered. We were traveling with my 7 year old son, and everyone got to know him, and called him by name (Dakota) the whole week!!! Both Sebastian and Daemon, at the Water Sports Desk, were both the most kind and courteous people you could ever encounter. They went way out of their way to assure we were comfortable and well attended to the whole week. They we kind enough to take my son on a complementary water skiing trip, they provided Kayaks, Paddle Boats, and took us snorkeling to Creole Rock. We have traveled throughout the Caribbean, and one thing that is always a little lack luster is the food (How many Conch Fritter's can one man have) – Not in Grand Case. The food was incredible, from the local Lolos Bar BQ, to the exquisite French restaurants. We did not have a bad meal!!!! We traveled all around St. Martin on our stay, and came to the determination, that we were absolutely at the best place on the Island. We will definitely be back!!!!!!
