“C'est la vie!”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

My family and I stayed at the Grand Case Beach Club from July 9 to July 17, 2013. We took a taxi to the resort from Princess Juliana Airport. If this is your first time at Saint Martin, I recommend taking a taxi to Grand Case Beach Club because the hotel conveniently has its own car rental service right in the main lobby. So, enjoy the taxi ride (less stressful than driving yourself for the first time on the island) and rent your car at the hotel! They bring your rental car right outside your hotel room! Entering Grand Case Beach Club's property was an eye opening experience. This place is absolutely beautiful! Every day we were greeted with friendly workers always smiling and saying good morning or bonjour! Being from Pennsylvania, seeing geckos and different kinds of lizards everywhere was really neat, too! Security always patrols the surroundings, making us feel very safe the entire trip. Ruth in the office was exceptionally helpful with questions we had and giving driving directions. We had a beachfront room, which was incredibly cozy, comfortable, and very clean! The air conditioning was flawless; our room was always a good temperature and allowed us to cool off after hot days in Philipsburg, Marigot, or exploring all of the different beaches! We couldn't have been any happier with our stay here. The first floor consisted of a bathroom, full kitchen/dining area, and living room. The upstairs had two rooms: one with two queen beds and a bathroom and the other with a king size bed and bathroom along with a decent sized balcony holding two lounge chairs. Pure perfection! A highlight of our trip was taking the Scoobi Too Catamaran boat ride with Captain Dave (my family got a kick out of him) to Prickly Pear island for snorkeling and Anguilla; although, we never made it to Anguilla due to weather, we went to another private beach on Saint Martin--Happy Bay. Prickly Pear was such a delight; the island had great snorkeling in the clear turquoise water accompanied with pure white sand. I've never seen a beach so beautiful. Open bar and lunch is included, too. Also we were lucky enough to see a sting ray when docked in front of Happy Bay Beach! Highly recommend doing this excursion--book it right at the hotel and the Catamaran picks and drops you off right on the Grand Case Beach. Very easy! The location of the resort is also in a great spot because it is safe to walk into Grand Case town and check out some neat shopping spots and awesome restaurants! Go to Calmos Cafe, Bistrot Caraibes, Il Nettuno, and L'escapade to name a few (5-10 minute walks)! You can't go to Saint Martin without checking out some LoLos, too--Talk of the Town and Sky's The Limit. Experience it! Another big highlight was the Sunset Cafe at the hotel! A basket of different French breads along with coffee and orange juice are free for hotel guests, but they also offer a menu of other items to purchase for breakfast! All the breads, the pancakes, and the french toast are delicious! Lunch and dinners there are great, too! The waiters and waitresses are all extremely nice. I especially enjoyed talking with Chantal and Karine! On the last day of our stay, my mother started crying as we finished our last breakfast at the Sunset Cafe! The tears came to Chantal's attention and she immediately began to hug both my mom and me. It was a very nice moment and showed what an amazing family vacation we experienced on this wonderful island and exquisite resort. Grand Case Beach Club's room number 59 (cinquante-neuf) will always be a little piece of home to both me and my family. The perfect vacation!

Room Tip: Request a beachfront room! They are awesome! You can not get any closer to the beach than these ro...

It has everything a Caribbean resort should have-two great beaches, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff.

The beaches: The location can't be beat in Grand Case. There are two beaches. Our favorite was Le Petite Plage, the one on the south side (to the left if facing the ocean). It was less crowded than the one on the north side and has some easy snorkeling too. You can see tangs, angelfish, crabs, and all kinds of other fish. There are quite a few sea urchins too, so watch where you step. Just avoid the dark areas. If you swim past the dock and around the rocks in front of Sunset Cafe, the fish get bigger and more colorful. The other beach facing Creole Rock is just for swimming and floating. No sea urchins on that side. You can get drinks brought to you from Sunset Cafe on this side as well. Just raise the flag on your lounge chair.

The rooms: My sister and I shared a one bedroom with a loft and they were nice enough to give us a room with two bathrooms (Room 220)! This worked out great for us. Everything was clean and new and you could tell it had been remodeled recently. We had a great view from that room too and spent quite a bit of time on the balcony. Not that you should really be watching TV in the Caribbean, but their satellite gets tons of channels. My only complaint about the room is that the WiFi was really spotty. Don't rely on it to make phone calls via Google Voice. It won't be strong enough.

The staff: Everyone was friendly and helpful. You can't really ask for more.

Activities: We did opt to take a snorkeling trip to nearby Creole Rock with guides Ben and Didier. It was $135 for 3 of us. We had a great time. It's about a 5 minute boat ride and then you follow Ben as he points things out. He will also dive down, overturn rocks, and find starfish and other creatures to bring up to show you. You can see beautiful Parrotfish, Tangs, Eagle Rays, etc. Ben said the dolphins come to Creole Rock in February/March :)

Tips:

Bring pre-printed directions from the airport to the resort if you get in after dark and are in a rental car. We got in around 9pm and it was very difficult to get to the hotel. The maps we got at the airport weren't sufficient and there aren't many street signs on the island. And you won't be able to use Google Maps for iPhone. Be advised.

The continental breakfast provided at Sunset Cafe is just pastries and coffee/orange juice. I saw some people complaining about this. But this is generally all the French eat for breakfast. This is all I ate most mornings and it was fine.

Room Tip: Room 220 has two bathrooms!

Chantal, LoLo, Jerome, Karine, Phillipe and Jennifer from the Sunset Cafe made our trip so enjoyable. They were friendly, helpful and fun! The Creole Rock Watersports under the helm of Sylvia, was very recreational. Our diving trip with Sylvia and Vincente went along flawlessly. Both of use send out a huge Kudos to all the staff at Grand Case, we are so thankful.....

We stayed here for our babymoon and were not disappointed. The beach at the hotel is amazing and water is beautiful. The people there are extremely nice and helpful. We were there for 5 nights and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is walking distance to the main road where all the amazing restaraunts are located. Highly recommend to stay here, great for couples or families.

We carefully reviewed all hotels on this site and decided to stay at the Grand Case Beach Club (6/30- 7/5). We have no regrets! The location is spectacular. You can see great sunsets every night, & beach was very nice. The bay was calm & had virtually no waves. The Snorkling around the Sunset Café Rocks was a better experience than snorkeling at St. Barts! The only bad experience was the rude men at the water activities desk. Security patrolled at night & made us feel very safe. We ventured down to all of the restaurants on a nightly basis (5 min walk). I would recommend going there during the day the first time you visit. Most places open @ 6 pm. Lots of great food & music. We never once felt threatened there & everyone we ran into was very polite. On the way back to the hotel stop & get a Nutella Crepe @ La Crepe en Rose. Beaches are topless optional & there were 2 topless sunbathers everyday. We visited Orient Bay,(inexpensive taxi ride). We are very happy we stayed in Grand Case vs Orient Beach. Orient Beach waves were really bad & after about 60 minutes of being on beach it got old and crowded. We ventured down to Club Orient & We were the only ones there that had clothes on! Club Orient participants led a Fourth of July parade up and down the entire beach every 2 hours, (half covered in body paint, or other small clothing, the other half were completely nude).

Room Tip: I highly recommend a second floor room, much better view and lots of privacy. There is more than eno...

I have been to St Maarten five separate times and stayed at five different properties on both the French and the Dutch side of the island. Although this property is not the newest property, it is well maintained, has a very helpful and friendly staff, and every room has a refrigerator and microwave oven. You may only want these features for your drinks and snacks as the hotel has quality food; and the town of Grand Case has more gourmet French restaurants than you could imagine. The beach is nice where you can meet some terrific return visitors to Grand Case. I spoke to everyone on the beach, and all but one couple were repeat customers to Grand Case.
