“What a fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2014

We arrived before our room was ready and Myriam did everything she could to make us comfortable. The room was perfect with a stunning view from the 2nd floor. The small breakfast buffet each day had more than enough choices to keep us happy. The location at the far end of the beach provided quiet, and then allowed us to walk into "town" without having to abandon the Caribbean. And the "shuttle" to the restaurants in the evening was wonderful.

I can see why Le Petit Hotel is rated #1 on St. Martin, and agree completely.

With so many people saying so many great things about this hotel and its staff, it's almost hard to believe it could live up to all the hype. I promise you, it does! We stayed for 4 nights in the middle of June and we will be counting the days until we can return. From the very first email to our hug goodbye, Le Petit was committed to our perfect vacation.
We arranged for our car rental through the hotel, and we were met at Princess Juliana by a friendly guy named Harry holding a Le Petit sign with my name on it. He helped us with our bags, drove us back to the hotel and had the paperwork ready with our car that was already there. It was very affordable, and the car ( a Hyundai I10 - tiny by American standards, but you don't want a big American car here) was very nice to have. We went back to Maho Beach to watch the planes at the Sunset Bar and wandered all around the island. Average speed was about 30 mph and if you can drive in a city and know how a roundabout works you'll be fine. It was nice to be able to run to the supermarket or take a quick trip down to Marigot or Philipsburg whenever we wanted.
For our entire stay, Remy and Yamina were the friendliest, most gracious hosts I've ever encountered at a hotel. They live next door, and even after the office closed they were willing to offer restaurant recommendations or call for reservations or transportation if needed. They greeted us by name every day and asked about our activities from the day before and what we had planned for tomorrow. Just absolutely charming people that know exactly what hospitality is meant to be.
As far as amenities go, the self-serve breakfast was as good as everyone says, and there was cold beer, water and soda in the fridge when we arrived. (Definitely consider buying lunch fixins at the supermarket if you want to save some cash.) We got in a little early, but they put our bags in the room while they finished preparing it and we were content to park ourselves on lounges in the shade on the beach. We didn't use the free kayaks, but we did take advantage of the loaner snorkels and spent many hours watching hundreds of fish and even found a sea turtle in the ocean behind the hotel. Don't sweat the european plugs- most outlets already had adapters in them and the hotel has extra adapters and transformers if you need one. With the big bed, the cold AC and the unique ceiling fan in the room, we slept like rocks every night. (The wine might have helped a little...)
We used recommendations from the staff for dinner, and none of the places they chose were anything less than spectacular. The staff at Le Petit called and made our reservations for seaside tables every night and we ate in the glow of gorgeous sunsets over the water. The food in Grand Case is just amazing- but unless you cook your own or visit the lolos it's not cheap.(Hey, you're on vacation right?)
Speaking of dinner, I can't say enough good things about the shuttle service the hotel provides and the chauffeur, Johnny Bryan. He uses a well-decorated-and-lit-up, 6-seat (with seatbelts), gas-powered golf cart to take you anywhere you want to eat in Grand Case and return you to the hotel. The staff at Le Petit called him for us, and all of the restaurants we went to knew him by name and will call him for you when you're finished with dinner. He was always friendly and punctual, and it was great not to have to deal with the parking in Grand Case or walk into town. The guy has lived here his entire life and is a celebrity in town- every night was filled with great stories about the island in between the waving and honking at people shouting greetings from the cars and porches. It's a great service- you won't regret taking advantage of it.
So, to summarize: The hotel is awesome, the staff are superb, the food is incredible, all the other good things people have said about it are all true, and if you don't stay here while you're in St. Martin, you may not survive the regret you'll feel.

My wife and I stayed at Le Petit Hotel for 4 nights in early June 2014 and would jump back on the next plane back again at the first opportunity. I can't fault Remy and Yamina on any topic. They were lovely welcoming hosts and helped us a great deal in seeking out the best beaches and restaurants in and around St. Martin. They were able to lend us masks and snorkels and also facilitated car hire which was a breeze with their help. (THe car hire company also dropped us off at the airport when we were going home).
We stayed on the third floor where we had great views down the beach from the balcony. The room itself was gorgeous and everything we could have hoped for. Very modern and in line with the "boutique hotel" description. There was a small kitchenette if you wanted to eat in or prepare a picnic. Breakfast was as advertised and very tasty.
Some other reviewers had voiced some concern about finding their way to the main street where the restaurants can be found. We had no issue at all and preferred to walk along the beach. We found this to be perfectly safe whether during the day or at night. We felt very safe throughout our stay in Grand Case.
Lots of other folks have listed their favourite restaurants and I can't disagree with the recommendations. Spiga is definitely worth a look for terrific Italian food and, if you fancy something a little simpler, the pizza at Aglio E Olio is excellent.
We did a bit of exploring around the island and enjoyed Remy's suggestion of a day at Pinel Island although I imagine it can get pretty busy at high season. Friar's Bay was also fun following a visit to the market at Marigot.
Overall I would strongly recommend this for comfort and convenience on St. Martin.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have a balcony with a balustrade rather than a low wall on the 3rd floor. This ma...

Wow! Spectacular! Remy and Yamina were the perfect hosts in this amazing b&b style studio apartment beachside spot. I can't imagine coming to Saint Martin without staying here now that I have. I just had the best vacation ever mostly due to Le Petit hotel!

Saint Martin: I really enjoyed staying in the French side. The people are amazing, and I think I ate a meter of French baguettes, and a bucket of croissants. Laid back nice people on this island, and they seem geared to making tourist count. I did not feel unsafe walking on the beaches near dusk but I avoided placing myself in obvious poor situations.

The location of the hotel: we got a car rental and tried to drive like locals, which means fast and crazy! The hotel was easy to spot and the area, Grand Case, is apparently the best eating spot of the Caribbean! We tried only one restaurant in the area called Le Tastevin and had an amazing French meal of veal, John Dory and pistachio mousse for seventy four euros / ninety one us bucks. We ate in to try to save money and there was a grocery just down the road. We also went to a lolo ( local word for a dive), which was delicious and they have 1.5. Dollar beers, just go right where the pier is and sniff around for food.

Perks of Le petit:
They have complementary kayaks for two (tip, go left around the corner to visit happy bay with a picnic lunch vs go to creole rock "the big rock" with a rope and a snorkel so you can tie the kayak to a buoy and check it all out)
Free wifi, and not slow, but also not good enough for netflix.
Beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, all ready for use.
Sunset views.
Very tasty breakfast with fresh fruit, quiches, and French baked goods. There was fresh squeezed grapefruit and oj, and good coffee.
Soft cornmeal sand, sea shells, sea glass, and tons of sea pottery ( technically sea tiles).
Balcony with amazing beach views and the sound of the ocean, with a quiet area in general,
Johnny Brian, who provides rides on a golf cart for after hours so you don't have to walk at night.
Remy and Yamina.
Beautiful updated room with full kitchen.

Things to add to the itinerary: zip line at Loterie ( do the extreme (seventy five pp), it is not that scary and I am terrified of heights!), captain Alan's snorkeling trip ((seventy seven pp) difficult to find because it it within a beach resort, but worth the driving in circles to get there because you get nose to nose with sea turtles).

Very wonderful trip. Thanks, Le Petit!!!!!

Room Tip: I had the third floor, which had a cover less balcony, and I enjoyed star gazing at night. All rooms...

Le Petit Hotel was just the perfect stay for my husband and I while visiting St. Martin the first week in June. We hired a car and were able to come and go as we pleased. The management and staff at Le Petit Hotel could not have been more helpful and provided great advice an assistance in planning our stay. Our studio apartment style room had everything we needed to enjoy meals in, as we pleased. My husband has mobility issues and the team at Le Petit Hotel always went out of their way to assist both of us, when required. The location is wonderfully perched right on the beach with little restaurants just a short stroll away. Fabulous breakfast with great coffee every morning...just go downstairs and help yourself. If we did not live so far away, in Australia, I would make Le Petit Hotel in Grand Case our regular holiday destination.

I don't think I can possibly say enough great things about this hotel and the people that run it. The hotel itself is small, but extremely well appointed. It has everything that you could possibly need or want. The room was large and included a small kitchen that has everything including a complementary snack basket, water, soda and coffee. The wifi was strong and reliable. The attention to every detail was perfect. And the people… I haven't met a friendly or more accommodating or generous group and any hotel, maybe ever. If you have any doubts about staying here, don't…and book it now. You will not be disappointed!
