“The other great meal in Grand Case”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

We never have french onion soup as we find it too salty and too much bread but L'estaminet shows how great this old favourite can be. It was perfect. The escargot in individual little pastry shells was excellent as was the duck although I found the chocolate sauce not to be the best accompaniment and would have preferred a different flavour but the duck itself was perfect and tasty without the sauce. The chocolate variation, 7 different chocolate desserts on a plate was chocolate heaven and overload at the same tine. WOW.

“BRILLIANT”

We have been to many top French restaurants around the Globe. This one is amazing and the setting is just charming. St Martin Grand Case is gourmet paradise.

“Good Food But Boring Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2014

The food was creative and complicated. I also felt it was pricey. I wish I could say that I enjoyed the experience more, but I just didn't. The wine that was recommended was so-so, which surprised me since we were on the French side. Our service was pretty substandard for a place with prices like this. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't good either. We saw the owner working with people who looked like regulars. They were the only ones who looked like they were having much fun in this very small restaurant. All of the other couples looked as bored with the whole experience as we were. Much more fun to be at Le Shambala. Also, this place is not on the ocean side. We were seated at an internal table not in the front room so we might as well have just been in a restaurant back home. If you live in St. Maarten, then sure, give it a try. If you are just visiting once, I would pick somewhere else.
