Our family spent a week in St. Maarten with our young family. Thankfully, my parents joined us and offered to watch the kids when we took one romantic dinner out. We did tons of reading and research and then walked the beautiful strip in Grande Case. When we saw the décor of this quaint little French, and after reading the rave reviews, we knew we had found the right place.
The meal was SUPERB! The Shrimp appetizer was perfectly delectable... The fresh whole fish was delicately prepared and so amazingly tasty. The "concerto" dessert was a platter made for two chocolate lovers (and that describes us indeed!)
The owner of the establishment made an effort to introduce himself to us.
Everything about this place transmitted a feeling of elegance, charm, professionalism, and the finest of French cuisine.
Having travelled to Europe, it felt like we were temporarily transported back...
Walking on the beach barefoot after the meal is a must.
I can't wait to go back!

Food came out extremely hot. Like microwaved hot!!! And too much decoration on the plate. I would have preferred more detail put into the taste of the food that the look of the plate.

We went to L'Auberge Gourmande for my birthday last week. The concierge made a reservation for us but when we arrived, they didn't have our name. No worries though because they fit us in.

The food was amazing!
I started with the Sea scallops grilled in soy and sesame oil, which were delicious
I then had the Sautéed Chilean sea bass filet and shrimp, (I got the coconut sauce on the side - good choice) The bass was perhaps the best bass I have ever eaten. The perfect texture and flavor. My wife had the whole sea bass that they deboned at the table. Both plates had a number of interesting sides.

We finished it off with the "chocolate delight" with the sparkler for my birthday.

The staff was wonderful as well.

Getting to this part of the island after dark is a bit of a feat. The streets in this part of Marigot are crowded, narrow and most of them are one way. There are not many sidewalks and if there are any they are narrow, so people walk in the street. It helps to know where you are going or you are likely to get lost. And for Heaven's sake, watch out for the foot traffic. It is a bit chaotic. If you are driving, there is a free parking lot just up the street from the restaurant, but unfortunately locals hang out there and try to get you to pay for what is actually free parking. Just tell them no and they will not bother you.

We were a bit surprised that the restaurant was so small and disappointed that it wasn't on the water side of the street, hence no views at all. The restaurant is comprised of two small adjoining rooms in a lovely old historic building. Reservations absolutely necessary due to the size of the place.

The food was excellent and the service was fine but it was difficult to totally enjoy the entire experience because we found the restaurant to be somewhat lacking in ambience because it was so incredibly noisy. We had a large round table for six people just inside the front door. Unfortunately the door was left open to the street during our meal and we could barely hear one another speak across the table.

Fine dining is a total experience and not just about the food. This is a lovely restaurant with very good food, but on our next visit we would go elsewhere.
