Spent two weeks at Simpson Bay, Saint Maarten and frequented this roadside grill almost everday for carry out. The location cannot be more perfect because it is located right on Kim Sha Beach, which is very nice for swimming and fishing. The barbecue chicken, ribs, fish, rice with peas and johnny cakes are outstanding and always very consistent. As an added bonus, they also sell soft drinks and alcohol beverages while waiting or when eating there. Our two kids loved the barbecue ribs after putting on the sauce and the wife and I really liked the barbecue chicken, and boneless chicken on a stick. Drinks are cheap in Saint Maarten but not the food so it was real nice to find this place for an occasional snacks and meals so we do not have to go out to a restaurant every night. Highly recommend this roadside grill, which is not much to look at, but the food is amazing and a great opportunity to meet and talk with the locals. Truly a gem in Simpson Bay.

for $20 you can get a rack of ribs, 4 heinekens and half a chicken. The smoky flavor of the ribs is delicious! they are short ribs but plenty to share. do not be scared of this being a roadside stand- pull off and get some bbq. We ate here at least 3 times during our week stay. Food on the island is so expensive so this was a breath of fresh air. It's only takeaway no seating

The first day we arrived and asked the hotel staff/taxi driver for good places to eat and they kept telling us tourist type restaurants. $14 for a hamburger that we can get for $6 in the US is just not our thing, plus, we didn't come to the Caribbean for hamburgers, pizza, etc. Finally, we stopped at a restaurant and we asked the waitress, "Where do you eat? We want to eat where the locals eat." She pointed across the street at this little red shack. We started with some chicken and ended up being regulars. The 3 of us that went are not pork eaters, so we do not know how the ribs or the like tasted, but, if you want Excellent Chicken, Fish, Oyster Soup, Johnny Cakes, Grilled Cabbage or Bammy....STOP HERE! Wonderful conversations with the other customers, some of the best service we have had on the island, great staff. I promise, you will not be able to eat there only time. You will be back.

We ate at at Captain D's 3 times on our five day trip to St. Maarten. We ate a lot of the other local restaurants In Simpson Bay, and just wasn't overly impressed with anything until we tried this place! Captain D was a great value and amazing food! We tried fish, ribs, chicken, and all his sides. The food was authentic and so good. The prices were extremely affordable too we would have food left over from lunch and only paid $12-15 for two people! His stand is small, but it is right by the bridge in Simpson Bay. Go here first on your trip!

Never thought that I would be eating at a roadside food spot on vacation! So glad that I did. Out of 5 days.....we enjoyed the best bbq on three of those days! The ribs were meaty and seasoned to perfection. The jerk chicken was excellent! We didn't know about the side dishes on day one. Bu,t we tried bammi (sp) and oh my goodness it was great. A simple noodle that was seasoned and flavored like none other! Portion sizes were more than expected! This is a must try location if ever in St. Maarten!
