“New Thai restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

This is a new restaurant tucked behind and office building with a lovely waterfront view. Lunch was terrific Thai, service was excellent and the setting was relaxing. The decor is very chic for St. Maarten, reminded us of Los Angeles Thai restaurants. We went back a second time!

“The best Thai outside of Thailand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013 via mobile

I was already impressed with a Thai restaurant in Marigot called Chay's. (Which I also recommend highly for quick and dirty Thai) when we saw this place on tripadvisor. It's a super nice water front place with awesome service. A little hard to find, but it's directly across the street from the cinema in Simpson bay, behind the CIBC bank.

The food is seriously awesome. We've eaten Thai for years in Canada at various places and nothin come close to this.

The service is really good and If it's busy ask for a seat at the bar.

We asked the owner why this place has a taste like no other we've had. He seems to think its because he grows all the hard to find herbs and spices on his property on the island.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

“Out of the Way on the Bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

Located in a beautiful setting, but hidden behind office/bank buildings on the main road, this restaurant is worth the trip. We went twice in 3 weeks because the food was very tasty and authentically prepared. Sitting outside on a CALM evening is sublime, but unfortunately we were there both nights when it was very windy and glasses were rolling off tables, the musician had to stop, and diners moved inside to more cramped quarters. The best deal is to go for the happy hour with select appetizers half price, and then follow up with dinner. John the owner was very gracious and on top of things; unfortunately on our second visit, he was not there, and the restaurant did not run as smoothly. The first happy hour visit included half price wine and offered appetizer alternatives for vegetarians and non-pork eaters. With our second visit, no substitutions were allowed and no wine was half price. The staff tried, but someone needs to be in charge to make the customer feel comfortable. However, we will definitely be back next year. Highly recommended.

“Thai food in a lovely setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Thanks to Tripadvisor we discovered Panlaan Thai on the Bay. We've been coming to SXM for years and weren't aware of the restaurant. It did not disappoint. We were there on a Sunday evening and sat outside with a lovely view of the bay and a live guitarist playing. The food was very good - I had the chicken satay which was moist and flavorful. The crunchy vegetable spring rolls were tasty, but I for some reason I didn't expect them to be fried. The Tom Kha soup was delicious and expensive for the portion size. The “Healthy & Tasty” eggplant and tofu was aptly-described. The restaurant is easy to miss - keep your eyes pealed looking for the sign.

“Fabulous appetizers!”

Excellent Thai food with a little twist. Right on the water. Excellent staff, great recommendations. When they say hot they mean hot.
