When you visit St. Maarten, go to Tri-Sport to take a relaxed, detailed, fun tour of the city on Trek bikes (and helmets) supplied by the company. You will see places tourists don't get to visit by cars and buses. My two Dutch guides were cyclists themselves, very knowledgeable about the area, quite caring about the group, and they spoke English well and were personable. They gave us an informative 3 and a half hour tour including enjoying a bit of exercise in a fun way to see historical sites, riding on city streets, riding by the beach and in the town, and then having a drink afterward at an upstairs bar facing the beach. WHAT FUN!

I booked this excursion from Royal Caribbean, and it was truly one of my highlights of my cruise! For about $52 per person (including a complementary drink at a local pub by the beach), the bike tour was about 3 hours going through the Dutch side of St Maarten. I had been on many excursions before, and this one is definitely worth the price and memorable.
Our guides, Juan Pablo and Martin, were very friendly and knowledgeable, and shared lots of interesting facts and stories about St Maarten with us.
The ride was fun, but can be challenging to those with limited experience on bicycles (uphills and downhills). Since this is not a typical "scenic tour"' on flat roads, please be mentally prepared and physically prepared (I was wearing sandals but had to go back to put on my New Balance trainers). The bicycles are very well maintained and are in excellent conditions (unlike those I rented in Grand Cayman or Key West), and they also provide safety helmets.
If you are tried of the typical sightseeing or beach tours, this is something you must try!!!!!

Booked this through P&O cruises whilst aboard Azura. Had a fantastic bike ride round Philipsburg. Easy riding, with only one steep hill to negotiate. Our guides were very knowledgable, considerate and took care of us on the main roads, which were pretty busy. Views were fantastic too !! Highly recommended.

What a fantastic ride this was. We booked our excursion through Norwegian Cruise Line, and could not have been more pleased. JP and Martin were outstanding guides and hosts in St. Maarten. The bicycles were TREK FX 7.2 hybrids. Good bikes and well maintained. We spent a bit of time with some basic use instructions from our guides and then did some test riding to make sure we were comfortable. From there it was off to the tiny streets of St. Maarten. Riding on those streets could be incredibly risky, they are narrow and packed with traffic. Our guides were experts though, and took great care of us, stopping traffic on our behalf when necessary. We moved onto the boardwalk and rode while ringing our bells through pedestrians. There were many stops to rest and learn some really great facts about the island. Both our guides were super knowledgable. Then, we came to the hill. Perhaps a 1/8 or 1/4 mile on a 18% grade. We stopped and were given a choice to ride up or walk up. Out of 16, 4 of us rode and made it. The rest walked. As per the guides instructions, you need to be a cyclist to make that hill. A beautiful lookout awaited us at the top. From there it was on to Fort Amsterdam and then a ride back, stopping at a bar for a drink and a wade into the beautiful ocean. Just about anyone could take this tour. The only difficult part is the hill, but you can walk up. Its definitely a whole other way to see the island.

Rented bikes to ride on St. Maarten. Jost was very helpful with the rental and provided much information. Because the Cruise ship I was on arrived later in the morning I was unable to pick a tour. Would highly recommend a tour because riding on the streets of St. Maarten is very risky, drivers and crazy and streets are very narrow, a deadly combination. The ride was okay for not knowing where to go and how to get there.
