Owner description: Garfield Fun Charters is now being operated by Coconut Reef Powerboat and Snorkel Tours. The charters were designed by Bruce Hancock a skipper with extensive local knowledge and who wanted customers to experience the hidden gems of St Martin. A chance to escape the crowds, snorkel in pristine clear blue waters, explore uninhabited islands and have a much more intimate and relaxing experience. We are continuing with his vision and want to make your trip with us one you will never forget.

“Great day on the ocean”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

My boyfriend and I took a full day tour with Garfield Tours this past week and had a blast. I've been snorkeling at several other locations in the Caribbean and have to be honest, St Maarten doesn't have the best reefs, but this was a really nice trip nonetheless. The trip visited four sites (Creole Rock, Tintamarre, Pinel, and Happy Beach) and they are the best sites the island has to offer based on my experience and the input or my friends who've lived here for the past two years.

Captain Alex was knowledgeable and kind. At the sites he took the time to explain the prevailing currents before we got in and the rules of coral and marine preserves (don't touch, don't stand, etc). The day was so calm we even got to do a drift alongside Creole Rock, and saw great coral and fish in that section. When I had questions about a fish ID (lizardfish) he helped me find it on the guide card. I even saw an octopus at Creole. At Tintamare we saw about a dozen green sea turtles, and at Pinel we had a great lunch and mucked about in the water (there were places to snorkel including a nice roped off spot on the end). My boyfriend hadn't ever been snorkeling before, and isn't a strong swimmer so we needed the break. At Happy the visibility was too poor to snorkel, so people had rum punch and snacks. Overall it was a great day.

“Garfield Fun Tours - Do NOT recommend it”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

We were disappointed in the boat and Captain Alex did not have any personality - in fact a bit uncomfortable.. The snorkel spot - Creole Rock was amazing, but we had to deal with old leaky masks, and equipment. Beer was cold and sandwiches were fair. We would recommend doing the trip but not with Garfield "Fun" Tours.

Dear bianca r
Thank for taking the time to review your trip with us. We strive to give our guests a good time on Garfield so your input is important to us. Our snorkel equipment is checked and things replaced on a monthly basis so it is strange you had faulty gear. We're pleased you enjoyed the snorkel destinations and the cold beer and hope to take you out again when you next visit St Maarten.

“Addis goes snorkeling”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

Had a great time, took the full day trip this past Friday with Captain Alex. Met Bruce at the bakery and had a snack before we went out. It was raining, but stopped just as we left the dock and held out until after we got back. Alex was a little quiet at the beginning, but warmed up for the rest of the trip and even hung around to talk with us at the dock after the trip was over. Turned out to be a great guy. Had a lot of information to tell us about the fish and the islands and his travels. Went to 3 snorkeling spots and a place to see some awesome iguana's......it's a shame the hurricanes tear up the reef as they do and there wasn't a large volume of fish but the variety was incredible. Fish of every size, shape and color. Saw a bunch of sea turtles at one stop. They swim right up to you. The food and drinks were tasty and in good quantities, especially the rhum drinks....lol.....All in all, a nice way to see nature and another perspective on the island itself.

“Good experience”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Our trip was for 4 people on November 20th, 2012. It was a very laid back outing, lasting approximately 7 hours. We started at bakery before beginning the boat trip, which had very good almond croissants. The boating trip had 4 stops, 3 of them involving snorkeling.

The first stop had schools of sergeant major, a cuddle fish, a spotted stingray, and other assorted fish. The reef itself wasn't very good.

The second stop was probably the best. We snorkeled by an island slightly north of St. Martin, and saw around 5-7 sea turtles, and another spotted stingray.

The third stop was at a beach, which had waist deep water. It was the only spot on the tour which had more than 10 other people than us in the area.

The fourth stop was happy bay beach, which involved more snorkeling. There were a lot of urchins, but not much else to see.

The crew was very friendly; they gave us a complimentary bottle of rum, made us sandwiches for lunch, and gave us snacks throughout.

“Fabulous 1/2 day with Garfield”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

We had a great time on this past Friday morning with Captain Alex. Be sure to get there early to enjoy pastries and coffee on the water at the bakery that Garfield shares. The half day trip includes 2 stops, the first of which is at a marine park where the snorkeling was amazing. Take your time with this stop as there is no comparison to the snorkeling you can do on the rocks closer to shore. The second stop was at Happy Bay which is a beautiful spot but a bit too male full frontal for our family. The only thing we'll do different next time is go for the full day trip to get to the other side of the island.
