“Possibly the worst dining experience...ever!”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

This was the first restaurant we ate at in St. Maarten...worst welcome ever.
We wanted something easy, relaxed, and satisfying. We were an exhausted famiy of 6 struggling to carry our own weight after a brutal plane ride, wondering around the strees near our hotel. We'd have been better of at Subway, or even Mc. donalds.
The entire ambiance of the place is unpleasant. The tables and chairs are falling apart, bugs are everywhere, it's as if the dull walls carry a dark aurora. Not fun, the minute we walked in we regretted it.
The service was AWFUL. We went for lunch, and the one waitress that was there worked effortlessly and had a nasty attitude. When we asked if they were open for lunch (the place was deserted) she replied "that's why I'm here..." Then when we ordered, the food took over an hour, for honestly cruddy quality.
The menu was limited, being souly meat, with few seafood offered, and the steak and fish cost some 20-30 dollars. My non-meat-eater mom had to settle for soggy, greasy nachos and watery salsa. I had chicken, or I should say bone. There was little meat, and the meat that was there was cluttered with fat and veins (yuck.). My brothers and dad had "cheeseburgers"... How could one forget the cheese on a cheeseburger, 4 consecutive times.
Overall, it was a relief to get out of that hellhole. And burnt a lot of money as well...
You can try your luck at dinner of in season... But you're better off steering clear entirely.

“Yum!”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

This is the first time that we've come back to visit the Friendly Island in two years and naturally we were told to visit the Rancho Steakhouse. It was as remembered, lovely location on the Palapa with an amazing view of the water and the yachts. Of all restaurants on the island we found that Rancho has one of the most spectacular buildings. Being an argentine restaurant we had meat; a tenderloin and entrecote. We like it bloody and the steaks were cooked to perfection, really amazing meat. We couldnt help going back! and the Saturday Latin nights were a blast. The live band really have a south american feel and we danced all night long (not very well mind you). It is definetaly a place we're going to recommend!

“Disappointing”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

We always visit an Argentinian steak house whenever we travel. I would not even classify this restaurant in that league. Outback or even Longhorn chain steak houses are better than this place. At least with those places you get the steak type you order. We ordered three entrees - 2 Argentinian filets and 1 rib eye. The filets were fatty and not cooked to the temp requested. The grade of the meat would not even qualify as USDA prime let alone the Argentinian quality we are accustomed to at restaurants that really are what they advertise themselves to be. Even though there were only three other occupied tables in the restaurant the service was incredibly slow, a spirited conversation between the server and bartender took precedence over our needs for the duration of our meal. And the few times we did see our server, the attitude coming off this woman was incredible: coasters tossed on the table, plates dropped onto the table in front of us, and outright rude responses after we dared to say we didn't prefer calamari in our ceviche so we would pass on that. Bottom line - the price is not worth the ambiance. You could get a better steak from McDonalds across the street!

“Best steaks on the island”

We always visit El Rancho when in St. Maarten. Their steaks are the best around.

“Good food, nice breeze”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

We have had meals at a few of the restaurants in Simpson Bay and found them too hot for lunch. We had lunch at El Rancho a couple days ago and it was cool and breezy. The interior is large and beautiful, the restaurant is built on a dock so you see the water below you and your view is of the marina. Nice spot. Food was great!! My sister and I had mexican and it was GREAT. The husbands and kids had burgers and pizzas and they truly enjoyed their meals.
