“Loved our Sunset Sail”
Reviewed May 15, 2014

Honestly we didn't do much research on this Sunset Cruise and thought it was going to be on a smaller sailboat or a catamaran. To our delight it was this larger boat that I later found out had quite the history (I finally read about it when I sent the Captain and Hostess a message on their site - http://www.sailholiday.com). We were waiting in the Yacht Club right there on Simpson Bay when Mirian approached us and seemed to know who we were??? Not quite sure how because plenty of others who were sitting in the bar didn't go on our sail. But, nonetheless she was friendly from the get-go! Peter was too throughout the trip but he stayed busier with manning the boat and sails, etc. while Mirian offered us small snacks and drink. We didn't even realize that was part of the 'package' so it was a nice surprise. A little Pinot Grigio, Presidente' beer, french baguette with boursin cheese, along with the beautiful view and we were great!

This is a good price (we paid $154 total for four of us) for 2+ hours on the boat and we were not crowded the night we were there at ALL with just 14 of us. If you go, you'll love Mirian and if you have a chance to do the dinner cruise, I'd say GIVE IT A SHOT because the two people running this excursion truly care about what their guests on board think and the kind of experience they have.

If we ever return, we plan to look at doing the all day sail (so we can FINALLY see Long & Plum Beaches) and the dinner sail as WELL as the Sunset Cruise. I read in many reviews that the food is great on the dinner cruise and that they take you to the areas that are not accessible unless you are paying over $450 a night for accommodations at the tip of the island where Plum and Long Beaches are. Would have loved to see them since in many 'lists of beaches' those two are rated as a couple of the best. All are noted on the island as 'public beaches' but this area has been built to block anyone without a pass to get through ANY of the many MANY gates. Such a shame - but Mirian told us that they take you there on the day excursion!!

“Wonderful Sunset Sail on the Passaat Classic Schooner”
Reviewed May 12, 2014

What a wonderful Schooner. We had a great time. Drinks and appetizers were delicious. Dingy ride over to Schooner and back to the marina was fun too. Beautiful views of the Island. The Captain is full of information. He and his wife were very much fun to spend the evening with. Next time I would do their Sunset sail and dinner!!

“Very very low key, if that is what you want”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

I'm sorry to write an average review for nice people. I was disappointed on many levels. It is a steel hulled sailing schooner built in 1911 that could use a refit. We expected to go sail up and down the coast to see the sunset while having our pre-dinner snacks. Instead we motored out into the bay a bit, shut down the engine and basically drifted with the sails up at one knot. Did not go far or have any of the feeling of feeling of sailing. As they make clear you go back into the anchorage before dinner is served, which may be a blessing if the sea is rough, but the scenery would be almost the same as at a land based restaurant. They advertise it as a nice quiet gourmet type home cooked meal. If it had not been for the conversation among our friends and a few other passengers it would have been boring, no music, no commentary about the boat or anything in the bay. The meal we had was homemade but very production-line. The fish was dry. The coconut creme pie that is their signature item was good. Wine, beer and rum punch was provided but this not a booze cruise. I’d say this was a cruise for the geriatric set except you do have to get in and out of an inflatable dingy and climb up and down to get aboard the boat. Not an outing I’d recommend. I was slightly embarrassed.

“Sunset Cruise”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

This was an excellent little excursion. Got on the dingy at St. Maarten Yacht Club, next to the drawbridge. A short ride over to Passat and we were on our way around 6:00 pm. Sunset was around 6:30 and although obscured by some clouds was still rather spectacular. Sailing quietly at dusk was so peaceful and enjoyable. Perter and MaryAnn are wonderful and knowledgeable hosts. The snacks and drinks were plentiful and delicious. We highly recommend this excursion
