I reserved a studio room with a kitchen at Simpson Bay resort through Travelocity. I wasn't aware that the resort is timeshare and that pressure would be placed on us to attend a timeshare presentation. Our first room was depressing. We had no view, it was on the first floor facing a parking lot, got little natural light, and did not have any warm water.
The conceriege offered me a room upgrade if I attended a 90 minute presentation and called our room several times. I declined. When I complained to the front desk about the room, they offered me a new room. It was a fantastic upgrade to a one bedroom with a kitchen and a view of Simpson Bay. If it weren't for the new room, we would have been miserable at the resort. Thank you to Manuel and Jennifer at the front desk who made the upgrade happen! Be prepared to walk a lot on the property. Lots of hills and roads which are not very well kept up (but that seems to be true of the entire island). Great location though in Simpson Bay.

Oh my godness....i never expected this lovely clean modern huge expanse of a hotel. Everything was awesome especially our room and the concierge service...it was a great few days...spent some quality quiet time with my boyfriend....the weather held up so it was beautiful as ever. This is our 5th time on island and 1st time at the resort...we wil surely be back..

Very comfortable property. Check in is a bit cumbersome so this time we made sure that our flight got in late and we were bit checking in when it was so busy. Everything was much smoother the second time (live and learn). We also requested the front building instead of being on the back of the property like we were on the first trip. I feel you are treated better up front and everything was more updated and clean. If you are workout enthusiasts the gym is wonderful and worth the $5 charge. The newly renovated restaurant/shop area off the main building was nice. They are in the process of renovating the B pool which will be really nice when completed. We stayed near the B pool the first time we went and always walked up front because the pool was lacking. Will be nice when it's done. There is a grocery store on property as well as 3-4 restaurant options. The resort is also located within walking distance to several restaurants/bars. Will definitely go back.

Room tip: The front building is much nicer than the back in our opinion. All of the rooms in the front building have a great view.

All improvements are wonderful with the accommodations. Staff is fabulous. These are my only improvement suggestions. Food choices on beach and around pools lacking. Only one grill located at beach with runners to take to pools. The hamburgers that are hand patted are tasteless, tough and unidentifiable. It is cold if u order at the villa or b pool due to distance. Other area restaurants are good but at the pools it would be nice to have better food and selections. The beach bar needs to be renovated as well to appear a little more sanitary.
Lastly, the speakers at the marina pool during entertainment made it unbearable to stay and free pizza was cold and limp with long line and one person serving.
For handicap: no safe entrance to beach. The boardwalk helped this for the villas but many stairs and no ramp down that is safe from the marina pool. The pool is the only option for them. More shade on the upper deck might be helpful as well.

We stayed here only for 2 nights, after having spent the majority of our trip on Anguilla. Although we stayed for a short time, it was obvious the bad out-weighed the good here. First of all: check-in and check-out. Both of these were extremely painful and took forever. It's obvious to me that they need more staff working at the front desk. The people at the concierge desk are sitting around doing nothing - why not move one of them to help the front desk!?! Also, upon both check-in and check-out, we saw different people trying to work out issues with the staff there. I don't know what their issues were, but it's not a great first impression when you walk up to check-in and someone is already having issues with the staff and their room. Also, check-in time is 4:00pm and check out is 10:00am. I imagine these times are set because the resort is so large that they need extra time to clean the rooms, but it's inconvenient when you have to check out that early. We got lucky and checked in before 4pm and our room was already ready. The room itself was upgraded and nice for the price we paid, but I felt like they just put lipstick on a big. Our room had plumbing issues - the shower was extremely clogged to the point where you either had to turn the water off and on during the course of your shower to let it drain OR you would be standing in water up to your ankles by the end of it (not an exaggeration). It was disgusting. The drain in the kitchen also made odd noises when we used the bathroom sink, so clearly there are plumbing issues there as well. The pool at our building was under construction, so we had to walk elsewhere to a smaller pool if we wanted to utilize one. The buildings themselves are all old and in need of exterior repairs (hence my lipstick on a pig comment). The resort also charges you a $250 deposit at check-in, which they release when you check-out. I was extremely skeptical of this and concerned if I was going to get the full amount back, because you are asked to do an inventory of kitchen items in your room and there were about 4 items missing from ours. It gives off a really negative vibe to your customers when you have to take inventory on every knife, place mat, baking dish, etc. in your room with the fear that you might be charged for those items even if you didn't use the kitchen. They also tell you that you'll be charged a ridiculous fee if towels aren't returned, if the counter top in your room isn't the way you left it, etc. I get that no one should be stealing towels and needs to clean up after themselves, but when you threaten all these charges to someone, it just comes off very negative. This resort is clearly lacking in service. The only good things about this resort was that there is resort shuttle that can help you get around and the accessibility of restaurants within walking distance. If I came back to St. Maarten/St. Martin, I would explore other lodging options.

However we would like to apologise for the inconveniences that you had during the check-in and check-out process. It has always been our primary goal to provide excellent service to the members and guests who stay with us, hence, we will address every situation you experienced in order to perform better.
We also would like o express that every policy including the deposit is based on the comfort of our guest and in order to maintain our units in optimal conditions every time you visit us, we feel on distress that you had a misperception of these deposits, nevertheless they are not arbitrarily adopted and are thinking to your secure and comfort. We will think in a better way to communicate them in order to avoid any negativity feeling about them.

We work very hard in order to deliver the best service we can offer as your complete satisfaction is our primary goal. We are sorry that the service did not live up to those goals for you. We will make every effort to address these situations in order to make sure that it does not happen again for you or our other guests.
