Stayed in D19.two bedroom, two bath sleeps six comfortably. This unit is in D building which has been completely refinished with stainless steel appliances, new furniture and comfortable bedding. The patio was large with new furniture and a great bay view. The restaurants on the property were excellent. Alexanders kitchen above the Bon appetit restaurant is a hidden gem with very reasonable prices and great selection. The onsite store Peli Deli was well stocked and competitive in pricing. The van shuttle service on site was fantastic as my husband has difficulty walking lond distances and this resort is built on a hill so everything is either up or down. Each of the six pools were spotless and the grounds were cleaned continually. The management is truly working to once again make this a travel destination. All the staff were friendly and super accomadating. The casino staff even offered to walk my Mother back to our unit after a night in the casino. Security is evident all thu out the facility. We took in two offered tours from the resort. One to Grand Case for mardi gras night and the other for shopping in Phillipsburg. Both were well run and inexpensive. This resort is central for restaurants and bars are all within walking distance with inexpensive food and great beaches.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in a building that has been refurbished and on the ground floor. Not all units have el...

This is not a 5 star resort, but it is very nice and in an excellent location. It is a timeshare place, but you can rent rooms. Hard to get ocean view without being an owner, but you have to try. Ocean view rooms are much better than the backside of the buildings. Buildings 6 (villas) are the best. B side of building 6 is direct ocean view with only a rarely used walkway. We stayed here after having AC issues in our parking lot view (bldg 7 odd number rooms) the first night. Jacqueline the asst. manager did a great job getting us switched to the villa and it truly made our week! The even number rooms in bldg 7 are beach front too. The other buildings are up a hill and you have to walk down to beach and pool. I would have no interest in staying in those. The pool is a very nice infinity pool. They do water aerobics in the morning, which is nice, other games, like bingo, are loud and annoying if you aren't playing. Can be difficult to get chair at pool cause losers go out at 6am, happens everywhere, and put down towels. Easy to get beach chairs and umbrellas though and beach we used is right next to pool.

They have shuffle board and tennis, but have to rent tennis racquets.

Toppers restaurant on beach was good, but is separate from resort so can't put anything on room.

Buccaneers is another good beach bar not too far away.

Panteer Thai restaurant was great! Not too far away, but you should rent a car anyway.

Carnivale in Grand Case on Tuesdays nights. That was fun. The Villa French restaurant in Grand Case was outstanding. Simpson Bay resort next door has a shuttle for $20 a reason to Grand Case on Tuesday night, don't know if Flamingo does, but rent a car....

Maho Beach is a must do. Planes flying right of your head. Pretty cool.

Divers have to do shark dive through Ocean Explorers, which is on beach off main road right next to Labamba beach bar. It was awesome.

Rented little car from desk at Simpson Bay resort next door. Paradise car rental. $180 for the week instead of the $240 Hertz desk at flamingo was trying to get.

There is Peli Deli very close by, which was good, but if you have a car go down to the Green Market, which is right on the main road before you turn to go to the resort. Much bigger, better selection of everything. Full kitchens in rooms are great. Ours had a blender so instead of $9 piña colada at toppers I bought big bottle of rum $12, and piña colada mix $6 (buy 2 I ran out), which made countess, better and stronger drinks.

On Mondays the sunset cruise, which leaves out of the marina at Simpson bay resort nest door is half price ($15). It is a 1.5 hour ride with drinks included on a very nice catamaran.

I have reviewed a bunch of other places in St. Maarten. Check them out. I really think Simpson Bay is the area to be in. We landed at 1;00 and where in our pool at 2:15. Nice....

We stayed here for a week in Oct 12 for our honneymoon. My wife was a little nurvous about our room because it wasent in the "new" tower. We were in the F building, witch ended up being even better. The entire staff was great as were the restraunts on property. We ventured off of the property more than anyone we ,et and had a great time at every stop! We also took a snorkling and sunset dinner cruise that left from the resort. AKA Boose cruise. Both were amazing not only in sight seeing(fish, ocean, sunset in the middle of the ocen & sea turtles) but the boat staff's as well. The shopping trips are great as well. Save your Jimmy Bucks and stay here. Were already planning our next trip here, this time brinning as many friends with us as we can!

Room Tip: "F" building is on the ocean with the sandy beach right in frount of it and pools on both...

I have stayed many times at this resort but my first at the new marina section. The room was very nice with direct ocean view. They have a small refrigerator and microwave which was very convenient. Dishes and glassware for two. The only downside is they do not have an ice machine. They offer trips to shop downtown in Phlipsburg, beach trip and a great sunset cruise that is not to be missed. I will be returning again in April. I love this place!!!!!

Room Tip: If you get a one bedroom, they offer a full kitchen. I had a studio this time.

A number of people complain that service is bad- We have stayed there twice and have experienced some of the best service in the Caribbean . This time during our stay our TV remote quit and someone was at our door within 1/2 hour to replace it.

Some people say the hill is unbearable- There is a continuous shuttle to all parts of the resort if needed and if you have a car you can park at the Marina even if your unit is "up the hill". Don't want to climb up and down the hill to go to the beach, you are never more than 30 seconds from one of the 6 swimming pools

No big screen TV- Who goes on vacation to watch TV

Appliances are outdated- They work and they are clean. Also all units are in the process of being totally refurbished

Want to eat- If you do not want to cook there are 4 restaurants on site, 4 others within a 10 minute walk and about 30-40 in another 10-15 minutes. There is also the local Peli Deli which is stocked like a grocery store or Market Garden which is a full size grocery store and 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk. The Peli Deli also has fresh muffins and sandwiches every day

They have one of the best fitness centres we have ever seen in a resort/hotel setting

You do get the infamous "timeshare call" but no high pressure

Yes there is only mid week cleaning but it is thorough and our unit had enough extra towels to keep us going for at least 2 weeks

You should be aware that not all units have nice views and your best bet is either beachfront or 3rd floor and up in the "B" buildings.

Booked a Junior suite with Balcony/Patio but got at checkin a small room without window and no balcony. It took 4 hours and 4 different "managers" to get at least what we booked. They told us they do not care what hotels com is advertising but have their own policies, e.g. booking junior suite with balcony does not mean that you get a junior suite with balcony; or e.g. cleaning only weekly, no fresh towels, no shampoo.

Simpson Bay Resort & Marina Management Response:

Dear Guest,

Thank you for providing us with your feedback. As a resort our goals are always to meet and exceed the expectations of our visitors; your comments are very valuable as they give us an opportunity to make corrections where needed. With that said, we were able to review your case and found that you were assisted by two of our team leaders in the following areas:

- Upon arrival your first unit was not satisfactory and when you returned to the lobby you were assisted by Pedro and Theresa, who explained that indeed you were given the unit type that was booked via Booking.Com

- Our staff offered an upgrade at no cost to our newly renovated unit in the Villas. This upgrade has a cost of an additional 120 USD normally.

- You also mention that you thought that daily cleaning and gym access was included in your vacation package. After providing an explanation and showing you what was booked, our staff again agreed to offer daily cleaning and gym access at no cost to you.

We truly regret that after all that was done to make your vacation more comfortable we still did not meet your expectations. We will continue to make improvements and adjustments as needed. Again, thank you for this valuable experience and we hope that you will choose to return to Simpson Bay Resort soon to show you how we've improved our services as a result of your feedback.

Warm regards from Sunny St Maarten,
