“Great Location”

The Atrium is an older resort right on Simpson Bay. The lobby is open and has a good feel. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are quite dated, though clean and well equipped. Bed was comfortable, as we're the pillows. We had an ocean view room but the location was across from the elevator with a window that opened in the hallway. It could be noisy in the morning. The best thing about the resort is you could walk every where: grocery, restaurant, shopping. We did have a car for day trips. We really like driving and getting a feel for the local flavor but if you hate to drive, you don't need to do so. We loved St Maarten and will come back. Not sure if we will stay at the Atrium again or try some place new. Probably depends on Trip Advisor reviews.

Room Tip: Taste Factory for breakfast. Random Wind day sail for activity. Go to Toppers By The Sea in the Flam...

Stayed here last February and had an awesome time. Rooms were clean and staff did a great job cleaning them every day. This hotel is within walking distance to many good restaurants. The island of St. Maarten is absolutely amazing. Orient Bay Beach was the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. Watching the planes take off and land over you on Maho Beach was pretty cool. You must experience this! Would definitely go back.

The Atrium is a perfect location on Simpson Bay. The resort has a nice private beach area and isw cetnrally located to many restaurants and attractions. The rooms were lare but as others have noted--some are renovated and some are not. There are many restaurants close by within walking distance as is the casino (??less than a mile away). The resort is small--about 90 rooms so it is cozy and the staff very helpful. The activity personnel gave many good suggestions for trips. St Martin is stunning!!

Some things we learned along the way on our trip:

1. This resort is centrally located and it would have been easy to get around by taxi. If you need a larger car and do not plan on driving every day...renting a car for just a day or two would be a better option. The one bed room condos are adequate size for 4 people.

2. Rooms--as others have noted the upper floors are best....701,702,703,704,801,802,803, 804 are excellent. All well equiped-just like home. There are 3 bedroom villas on 9th floor and if you get 3 couples together these rooms may also be an option for you -if available---the 3 bedroom villa is more cost effective than some of the "brand name hotels (ie Westin, etc) for much less space. some of the lower rooms have no scenery to see at all. The Atrium parking is very secure--we we liked very much after hearing the stories from visitors staying at other resorts.

3. Car rental--be very careful here and read the information very carfully. The deduction is maybe in euros not dollars. Many items are not covered and you will be charged. In foreign countries--many times your cc insurance or automobile insurance will not cover damages all the way either. One group we met had their car windows broken and parts stolen from the motor at another resort (not the Atrium). We used Rent a Wreck--their policy is to charge your cc for the entire week...then when you get to the rental desk..they charge the entire amount again!!! We end up paying twice for the same car rental. The company did not refund the money quickly. Since we had already pre-paid almost the entire amount there was no reason for the company to charge us again (Rent a Wrk would not give us the car unless we paid again). We have been to St Martin several times and this seems to happen with many of the rental agencies. Note: watch your alcohol level on the French side--it is lower for DUI than the Dutch side...know the numbers :-)

4. There is a shuttle at the Simpson Bay Resort that goes to Phillipsburg. Close to the Atrium are also AquaMania adventures--a close walk where you can arrange to go on day trips to other islands-St Barts, Saba, Anguilla.

5. There are amny 1 euro=1 dollar restuarants--the hotel can help you with these or do a google search. Many good restaurants that do this.

6. For you DRI members--Atrium is an affiliate and a good choice if Flamingo Beach or Royal Palm Beach REsort are full. Palm Beach is smaller --on the main street--which makes it nice to get to restaurants. Flamingo is much larger and is a little more secluded from the main street--longer walk to many of the other restaurants--like Skip Jacks and the Yacht Club . All ahve nice beaches...the pools are bigger at the Flamingo and Palm Beach than the Atrium but the beaches are where you need to be. Enjoy your trip.

we will be back often.

Room Tip: higher levels as stated above

These condos are good sized, clean with tiles and well kept, if a TAD dated and 80's style in general. The pool area is very nice, short walk to the great beach of SImpson Bay, and right in the middle of the action as far as walking to shops, food, drinks, etc.
The parking lot is a bit weird....there's an upper and lower and you have to swipe your hotel door key to get in AND out. And, of course, at least a few times during my stay it failed to work. Irritating, but not a deal breaker. Eventually I requested an extra key and left it in the car visor so I didn't have to keep pulling it out of my pocket....lol

I have timeshares at the nearby Simpson Bay Marina Resort and stayed here when I came in the week before MY week next door. It was adequate, comfortable, and decent facilities and views.

Overall - - 8 for 10.

Room Tip: higher floor = better view. There are many trees at low lever if you want a sea view go above floor...

I have stayed at more high end places around the world than the Atrium, but I was overall satisfied and would stay again at Atrium. The facility is clean and most rooms updated. We were on the 8th floor in a studio. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is free parking for a rental car. There is a high end grocer around the corner only, steps from the hotel. The location is in the heart of many eating options. The beach is nice and not over crowded. The Bucaneer Beach Bar, right there- is a good option for a midday snack while on the beach. I eat at the Green House Restaurant attached to the hotel and did not like it. I only eat there once, the first day we arrived. There is LOTS of foot travel, I felt safe in the area. It was my first time in St. Maarten and I definitely hope to visit again!

Room Tip: Construction across the street. I didn't mind the noise in the morning, but stay on a higher fl...

We've got a studio-type room on the sixth floor. It was very clean and neat room. There was a kitchenette inside with microwave, big fridge, toaster, oven, coffee maker(even no coffee supplied), dish-washing machine, utensils, plates etc. The AC was working fine even there was not that much need of it - the tile floor keeps the room pretty cool. The resort has two small parking lots(use the room key card to get in and out) and we never seen those full. The place is very close to almost everything. The beach is right behind the hotel and has free chairs, tables and umbrellas . Free WiFi in rooms which at moments drops out. There are two stations(computers) plus a printer in the lobby which can be used also for free. The hotel staff is nice and courteous . Will stay there again.

just got back from 2 weeks at this resort and will definitely be returning. Our first week was in an older 1 bedroom. Although it did in someways show its age, it was large, clean, had everything we needed and a lovely view of the mountains and marina. Our second week was in a renovated 8th floor studio which was very nice... very large and nicely redone with incredible views of the marinas and the bay. The only drawback would be if you're a "pool person" since the pool is VERY small (they'd probably be better off turning part of it into a hot tub) However the resort have a very nice beach and being beach people the pool wasn't an issue for us at all .... also there are so many beautiful beaches on the island why would you sit at a pool anyway.

Also as others have mentioned, the location is terrific with restaurants of every kind very close and a modern grocery story just a block away (check out their breakfast buffet takeout... we picked it up every morning to take to the beach and two of us could eat for under $10 easily)

Room Tip: If you're trying for an ocean view room ... ask for a higher floor... there is of course no guar...
