Description: Fasten your seatbelts for fun in the sun! Sunset Bar & Grill is St. Maarten's most popular beach bar and it's easy to see why. We are right on a beautiful white sandy beach, but also right at the end of the runway of Princess Juliana International Airport. Where else can you enjoy an ice cold beer as a huge KLM Jumbo Jet soars right over your head?

We have been to St. Martin two times before and knew about this place but never went to it. This time we did and had a great time. Seeing the planes coming in so low and the planes leaving and the propulsion coming out of them was a sight. We went there for dinner the first time and it was good. We went the day we left St. Martin since it is right at the airport and wanted breakfast but just missed it. Had burgers and they were good.

A fun place to go.

Come here for the drinks, and get a front row seat to watch the jets land at Princess Julianna airport 200 yards away. Check the surfboard to see the arrival times of the jets and catch the KLM and Air France 747's come in right over the beach next to the bar. At night the live music is perfect with the crashing of the surf. Chair and umbrulla rentals at $10 per day. Make sure you get the bucket of beer (we preferred the Caribe). $10 also.

I'd like to preface this review by saying I normally avoid "touristy" restaurants at all costs. However, we came to the beach to watch the planes (very cool experience) and decided to have lunch here. The place was really busy but the servers kept up and it was a nice relaxed atmosphere. I had the BBQ chicken and it was in my top 3 BBQ chickens of all time. My boyfriend had a chili dog and it was decent but didn't compare to my meal. We didn't feel rushed at all and hung out for a while since they had reasonable prices and the plans land or take off every few minutes in the afternoon.

This is the lively, beautiful beach bar and area where you can see 747s and other planes take off and land...seemingly right above your head! Scary and exciting, there is nothing like it. The beach itself is beautiful as well. We went on a Sunday and it was a parade of planes. So fun!!

Stayed at the Sonesta but next time would stay at the Sunset end. a 5 minute walk, plenty of beer and great looking burgers (too bad I didn't get one). Every few minutes you're treated to another plane arriving and departing just 100 yds away, watching everyone hold on to the fence and take in the jet blast. Good fun!
