“Great food. Very nice evening”
Reviewed April 1, 2014 via mobile

My wife and I ate here our first night in St Maarten. We had a wonderful time. She had the ocean platter and I had the farmers board. We got to share a real variety of the good and it was excellent.

I would say for the most part I would rate this a five. The only thing is because they are serving on a very hot stone the food is cooking right in front of you. Very fun. However if you are not paying attention and forget to remove it from the stone it can easily get overcooked, particularly the seafood. That said we were very into the experience and cooked each meat to perfection. Scallops, tuna, salmon, fillet, flank steak and duck. It was all very good

We will definitely return

“Unique Concept”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

We had not been to The Stone in a couple of years. We made reservations both via email calling the restaurant and speaking with the owner, but when we arrived no record was found. Nevertheless, the seated is quickly, outdoors under the stars as requested. We were a party of five and we shared the baked Camembert with cashews and Grand Mariner and an order of Spring Rolls. Very tasty and just enough. Entrees were Cajun Shrimp, Scallops with mango, Seared Tuna Steaks and Chicken Skewers. All the entrees were from the “Light” portion of the menu which meant smaller portions, but the amount served was perfect. As the name of the restaurant implies, the entrees are begun in the kitchen but delivered on an exceedingly hot volcanic stone for you to finish cooking to your desired degree of doneness. It’s an interesting concept and it works very well. There was a live classical guitar player which added just the right note. All in all we had a very enjoyable time and recommend seeking this place out.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

This was our third visit in four years - hope springs eternal. The food was good, the service time was better than in the past, but for what we paid I think it should have been a better experience. We had to repeat our drink requests two times, ask to be moved when it started to sprinkle rain, and after requesting an ashtray for an older aunt, we finally went and got it ourselves. We sat outside on a picnic table that had padded cushions, and paid $40 for a steak. The cost of the steak was a bit high, but it was a good steak. But $4 for an extremely small cup of coffee - and then another $4 for a refill was ridiculous. We ordered a fruit fondu and were disappointed with the fruit too: a few slices of peeled apple and banana, and some strawberries that were half white because they weren't ripe yet - and a few small pieces of pineapple. Not appealing. Throw in the picnic table and average (at best) service and it wasn't worth it. We will not be eating here again - there are some wonderful restaurants here in Simpson Bay that do a far better job and provide higher value.

“A great culinary experience!”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

It is a small restaurant so book early! Otherwise, it is great. Everything comes on heated stones, so you literally see the food cook in front of your eyes. It is a little pricey, but the food was really good.
