We were driving in the Simpson Bay area and looking for a place for dinner. My husband picked Skipjack's. It was a weekday night and we had no reservation. The host said it would be a wait. We went to the bar for a drink and started talking to the other people waiting for tables. This place seems very popular with Americans. We were staying on the French side so this was a change for us. All the prices are in dollars and everyone speaks English. We waited quite a while for our table but the manager came over several times and assured us that he would seat us soon. We both had fish which was excellent. The prices were reasonable. I can see why this restaurant was so crowded on a week night while other restaurants in the area were not.

First of all the owner of this place is rude and intolerable. He has a terrible temper, you better not put a bag or purse on his tables he will go into a rage!! I have never had such a bad experience at any restaurant. Pick a better place to go there are many places to chose from where people are treated with respect and their patronage is appreciated and you are not treated like a criminal over a purse on a table.

We were on the island for a week and asked around for best lobster places on the Dutch side of the island. We had seen the sign outside Skip Jack's for 'voted best lobster.' Also, a few locals mentioned it, along with a couple other options. We had the Caribbean lobster rather than the Maine lobster, so maybe that made it only average (average-to-poor actually). We spent $100 on the lobster, so we made sure to eat it, but it wasn't tasty at all. Not money well spent (for 2 of us, one drink each, shared appetizer, shared lobster and no dessert, the bill was $150). The crab cakes were very good though. The atmosphere is great--tables right on the water next to marina, and I would consider going there again if (a very big if) I ordered something else.

Beautiful lagoon-front dining with fresh fish and BBQ - add a nice bottle of wine and it's a perfect night!

What we enjoyed about our experience at Skip Jack's was the food, and, the setting overlooking Simpson Bay. What we didn't enjoy was the service provided by our waiter. His demeanor seemed to be one of total detachment, as if he was just going through the motions. When asked about the taste of one of the sauces that could be ordered, he gave a very brief, inadequate description, as if he really didn't know. Once he left, a patron sitting at a nearby table, who overheard the conversation, offered to describe the taste of the sauce. After receiving our meals, the server didn't bother to return to ask if everything was okay, or, if there was anything else we needed. None of this is that disturbing, except for the fact that a 15% gratuity is automatically added to your bill. Additionally, upon leaving, we find that our vehicle, which is parked in front of the restaurant, is blocked by another, preventing us from leaving. After returning to the restaurant to ask for assistance in determining who is the owner of the vehicle, we find out that it's one of the employees who stopped by to chat with one of his co-workers. Improved customer service would definitely make ones experience at this restaurant more enjoyable.
