“Quite a climb, but worth it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2014

The signs to get to the fort were not terribly helpful. It turns out there is a path to the left of the Indian restaurant near the water that leads more directly to the fort than going by the streets. It still requires walking up a steep street and a lot of stairs but the view is beautiful. There are quite a few cannons still there and several signs that talk about the history of the fort and some of the battles that took place. We spent a good amount of time walking around before heading back down the hill. If nothing else, there are lots of great picture opportunities!

“Splendid panorama”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2014

The actual fort is just some stone remains, and grassy areas. It is on the small side, but the panoramic views make up for it! Actually, a nice, peaceful little place. It is right above the harbor. Since the entry stairs are not well marked, look for the white cement steps located between 2 restaurants -- on your right side as you face the ferry building.

It's a few flights of stairs and there's not much shade. However, it's free, convenient, peaceful, and you will be very glad you remembered your camera.

“Beautiful panorama of Marigot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2014

Not much is left of the fort but once you climb to the top the view is breath taking. Watching the clouds change the water from dark blue to turquoise as they past over is worth the 99 step trek. It's also lovely to see the harbor and all the yachts.

“Worth the Climb”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2014

Situated above and in the middle of Marigot, this fort is worth the climb (stairs, primarily) to the top. Remnants of the old fort remain and the near-360* view makes it all worth while!

“Wonderful views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2014

Please eat lunch after you climb to the fort. Unfortunately, there are very few accurate markers. Across the street from La Vie en Rose at the base of the hill you'll find some stairs. Up you go, just follow your nose. You can see the flag at the fort, just keep heading up towards it. You'll come out on an open area, follow that to your left. Now, the real climb begins. Yes, it is a stiff climb if you're not in shape but take your time, there's no rush. Be careful, watch your footing.

Once at the fort Marigot is laid out below, bright and colorful. The market all spread out a maze of tents, goods and people. The marina with all of the boats sparkles. The wind blows, nice and cooling.Look across the lagoon to Simpson Bay. On a clear day you can see to Anguilla. You can reach the base of the flag, but that is an uneven rocky climb. Stroll around, just imagine that time long ago, feel the history. Take your time, smell the salt air and enjoy. Now, it's time for lunch!
