“Bautifull and quiet place between ugly streets”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013 via mobile

My soul was relaxing when i saw such a contrast colours on pictured from Sir Roland. House is colonial and inside you can buy an art or you can just watch and get some inspiration. Inside is quiet and calm. Outside is street full of people and traffic jam:)

“It is rare to get to see an artist at work...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

This was an unexpected surprise when I visited the island. I had read about Roland before coming and knew that I wanted to see his work. What I didn't expect to find, was that the artist was in his own gallery, upstairs, working on an amazing portrait. It was such a great experience to see a great artist at work. Stayed longer than I expected.

“Inspiring and unique art and artist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013

This review is as much a look back at all of our visits to the gallery and time spent with Sir Roland and his wife Laura, but also a look forward to our 2013 trip in the early planning stages.

We love this native St. Martin “Plein Air impressionist’s work and proudly own a few pieces. We always stopped by the gallery each trip but a number of years ago met him painting along the side of the road. We stopped and he was so very gracious in spending time with us. Over the years, we have been able to get to know the artist, his wife and daughter and look forward to seeing them with each visit. While he is a true, renowned and even knighted dignitary in his own nation, he is also a amiable and down-to-earth man that is easy to be with and talk to. When he speaks of his art or his creative process, his language has an almost inspirational, spiritual resonance. When you speak to him about his children or other shared experience, he's as down to earth as the rest of us.

Besides at his gallery, his art is visible at the airport and at La Samanna hotel. Our rented 2010 villa was highlighted throughout with his art. If you visit his gallery , you may find him there painting. Perhaps bring back a piece of his art as the ultimate remembrance of your trip.

“The most inspiring highlight of every year's trip to St. Martin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2011

Roland Richardson's paintings are stunning, and he is now, ( duly grizzled by the sun and having come in from the outdoors where he spent most of his career as a plein-air landscape painter), in a salon setting in his studio, sharing his very spiritually centered philosophy of painting and of Light and Color (as the first transformation of the Creator's energy) and offering visitors the incredible opportunity to be with him in his studio as he paints-- sometimes a model, sometimes a still life. As a painter myself, this has been my favorite experience each year. He is now spending much of his painting time documenting the people of the island in lovely portraits. The gallery and his paintings are breathtakingly beautiful. He is a national treasure. You can visit the gallery for a short period of course, but the salon experience is really really special.
