Not great for snorkeling, as the water is not clear. Very pretty and gentle though. Waves not too bad. Sand is a 'shell sand', not powdery.

Close to everything and many fun things on this beach, shopping, restaurants, casino etc. We looked for shells and played in the surf.

This is a great beach to leave the husband if he's not up for the shopping trip ! It's very calm and great food all around, besides the shops are everywhere !

The water at Great bay beach is great. It's a steep beach, but the water is pretty calm, and bright blue. Most of the sand is made of small shells, so it can hurt to walk on for along time, and it sticks EVERYWHERE (and I mean everywhere...). Overall, it's a good place to swim or sit in a chair, but I wouldn't recommend laying in the sand. It's great for shell collecting.

Great Bay beach is a quick, paved walkway (about 15 minutes) from the cruise ship dock. Coming off the ship veer to the right towards the first set of gates out of the cruise ship shopping experience. I do have to note right away that the jewelry shopping in this area was equally as good as in town. Go straight out of parking lot (about 100 yards) and take sidewalk going left, this is towards the town. You'll pass a few boats on your left in dry dock and then within a 1/2 mile you'll be walking through all the charming little shops. Keep going and you will be on the board walk. You don't need a taxi. This port town is clean, reasonably priced and has many friendly residents. The shopping was easy no pressure sales anywhere we went. There is an Artisan market 3 blocks inland from the middle of the beach, charming kitschy items there as well.
English is spoken everywhere, although you are on the Dutch side.
You can find drink specials everywhere you go that come with either lounge chairs or free wifi.
There is also jet skis (going rate $50-55 for a half hour, you can also trade riders no extra charge) and parasailing for $80.
