Owner description: Sea Trek St. Maarten is a 2 ½ hour tour excursion that runs several times daily. The tour starts with a 5 minute walk from the gangway to the water taxi pier and a 10 minute boat ride out to our staging area. Once on board the Sea Trek dock your guide will give a safety briefing and will answer any questions that you may have. The underwater trek itself takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete; based on the number of guests participating in that particular tour, 2 separate tours may be made. Each tour will have no more than 10 guests and will have a minimum of 3 Sea Trek staff members with the tour at all times as a safety precaution. If there are 2 groups participating in the tour, while one group is underwater the other guests are offered the opportunity to go for a snorkel while they wait. Once both groups have completed the Sea Trek tour there will be an opportunity to buy photos taken of you on the trek before boarding the boat and getting shuttled back to the cruise ship pier or the main land.Helmet diving feeds continuous air through low pressure lines on the surface down to the Sea Trekker under water. The air pressure inside the helmet keeps the water level right around shoulder height and the majority of the time you won’t even get your hair wet. You climb down a ladder from the Sea Trek dock that reaches 20 feet down to the ocean floor. The track, a loop approximately 300 feet long, takes you past both natural and artificial reefs such as a helicopter, a plane, a submarine, King Neptune and 2 canons salvaged from Fort Amsterdam. You’ll be also invited to interact with some of the local sea creatures along the way. Once back to the beginning of the track loop you climb the ladder back onto the dock while personally lead both up and down the ladder by a guide or safety diver.Min 8 yrs. and able to walk and climb a ladder. You have to be in good physical condition and sign a waiver. This tour is not recommended for guests with physical disabilities, a pacemaker, severe asthma, claustrophobia or for women over 3 months pregnant. Max depth is 20 feet. There are tee shirts, sodas and bottled water available for purchase after the tour – cash only please. No rest room available at the platform. No secured lockers available.

“Unique Experience”

I really didn't know what to expect from this but it was way awesome! We did this as a shore excursion while on a cruise. It's truly like nothing else I've done. The staff was super cool and definitely in control and knowledgeable. You get to get really close and even touch some sea life and experience the ocean in a whole new way. Once we were done with the sea floor tour we were able to hang out on the deck and snorkel. Such a cool and unique experience.

“this is a must do!”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

This is an amazing excursion! Staff is well trained and you are made to feel very safe. We stayed at Sonesta Great Bay and this trip was available through the hotel. We simply walked down the beach to a dock and was picked up by a boat which took us to the Sea Trek sight. You don't need an underwater camera, the staff takes pictures of you and sells you the drive. One of the coolest things we've ever done.

“Neat experience”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

I'm not experienced at snorkeling or scuba diving so I wasn't sure how I would like this excursion. I went with my son, who is experienced with both snorkeling and scuba diving. And the crew at Sea Trek explained everything in great detail and they were very understanding and patient. The main thing to remember is to keep the helmet level. If you tilt it forward or back it will fill with water.

You do get a little motion from the current that will tend to push you around. Just keep one hand on the handrails for stability and you shouldn't have any problems.

I really enjoyed watching the crew feed the fish and I liked being able to hold an sea urchin. We were in the water for only 25 minutes, but we really enjoyed it. Overall, it was a neat experience.

It was a great experience. Being scared of deep water, it was good. Well worth it. The Staff and crew were so nice.

“Must Do for St Maarten!”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

This is one of the coolest things that I've ever done and it a must do for St Maarten. We signed up for this excursion with another party from our cruise. From the cruise boat we took a taxi boat over to the Sea Trek exploration area. For someone who can't snorkel or scuba dive this is your ticket to the underwater world! It is so easy and the crew that was working that day (Josh, Kevin, Terry and Chin) took extremely good care of us. The crew explains everything very well and makes you feel very comfortable. Was a bit nervous before putting the helmet on but I knew I was in very good hands. They have a bunch of neat things to look under water--airplane, canon, some sculptures. I was a bit surprised by the temp of the water (Cold!) and the current under water (it was really windy the day we went) but there was nothing to worry about it was extremely safe. Make sure that you buy the USB of pictures. They take some great photos (much better than you can take w/ an underwater camera) that are fun to share. My tip is to bring a pack of gum with you (if you forget they have some there for sale) and chew it while you're in the helmet--definitely helps to equalize the ears.
