Attraction details
Owner description: Sea Trek St. Maarten is a 2 ½ hour tour excursion that runs several times daily. The tour starts with a 5 minute walk from the gangway to the water taxi pier and a 10 minute boat ride out to our staging area. Once on board the Sea Trek dock your guide will give a safety briefing and will answer any questions that you may have. The underwater trek itself takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete; based on the number of guests participating in that particular tour, 2 separate tours may be made. Each tour will have no more than 10 guests and will have a minimum of 3 Sea Trek staff members with the tour at all times as a safety precaution. If there are 2 groups participating in the tour, while one group is underwater the other guests are offered the opportunity to go for a snorkel while they wait. Once both groups have completed the Sea Trek tour there will be an opportunity to buy photos taken of you on the trek before boarding the boat and getting shuttled back to the cruise ship pier or the main land.Helmet diving feeds continuous air through low pressure lines on the surface down to the Sea Trekker under water. The air pressure inside the helmet keeps the water level right around shoulder height and the majority of the time you won’t even get your hair wet. You climb down a ladder from the Sea Trek dock that reaches 20 feet down to the ocean floor. The track, a loop approximately 300 feet long, takes you past both natural and artificial reefs such as a helicopter, a plane, a submarine, King Neptune and 2 canons salvaged from Fort Amsterdam. You’ll be also invited to interact with some of the local sea creatures along the way. Once back to the beginning of the track loop you climb the ladder back onto the dock while personally lead both up and down the ladder by a guide or safety diver.Min 8 yrs. and able to walk and climb a ladder. You have to be in good physical condition and sign a waiver. This tour is not recommended for guests with physical disabilities, a pacemaker, severe asthma, claustrophobia or for women over 3 months pregnant. Max depth is 20 feet. There are tee shirts, sodas and bottled water available for purchase after the tour – cash only please. No rest room available at the platform. No secured lockers available.

“Great Underwater Experience for Non-Divers”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

We did this with my 12-year old son, and he absolutely loved it. Cruised on the Norwegian Epic, did the dive at 2:30pm. About 19 in our group so we got split, half dove and half snorkeled. The crew was patient and assisted everyone, experienced or not.

They provide water shoes free of charge and you go a depth of about 20 feet. You walk on a concrete cat-walk on the bottom, and there are handrails. We saw a sunken helicopter, old cannons, and a cool gate that looks like you're I an underwater jail when they take the pictures.

Rum punch after the dive for free (leaded and unleaded for the kiddies), and extra refreshments available for purchase along with hats and t-shirts. Pictures were $35 for an entire set, provided on USB drive. Got a chance to view on a screen before purchase.

I'd recommend this event, it's fun and a great first exposure to folks to see if they like breathing underwater. I'd suggest a wet suit (shorty or 2mm), as you are under for about 30 minutes and since you're just walking slowly, it's tough to stay warm.

“Kids loved it”
Reviewed April 6, 2012

This is a great experience for non-divers and, because of the originality of the concept and amusement, it can be an amusing one for weathered scuba-doers - and it's always good to join in with your kids.
Excursion price can seem a bit high but you can see the money is spent on installations, equipment, maintenance and service which are all impeccable.
The employees are great : pro', fun, pleasant. Listen carefully to the instructions and questions at the reservation office and on site : novices be aware and practice the Valsalva ear-pressure equalizing maneuver before going and/or on the boat.
Environmental impact is limited and the site is nicely situated next to a pelican colony with lots of breeding couples and young pelicans. Pre or post event swim and snorkel is fun and good quality fins & mask are included.
Photos on USB drive are a nice little extra - especially if you are lucky with the lighting - for a reasonable price (you only need one per family). Dry snacks and cold drinks are available for a dollar or two which is a surprisingly fair gesture. You can leave a tip for the crew at the little counter too, then you won't be stuck with only tipping the boat-man on return to the dock.
Visibility can be limited, or crystal clear, that's the risk of an underwater environment, but staff and reservations people go to great lengths to advise you.
The water-taxi transfer to site, and particularly the wait on board the taxi once there, is - as too often - a non-event, which is a disappointment because it could be otherwise. "Tips for the captain" are welcome on leaving the taxi but not even a fruit punch or cup of fresh water is offered during the return trip, let alone a shot of cheap duty-free rum or a coconut cookie, so why bother ?

The best tip we can get is a good review on Tripadvisor and recommendations to other travelers. Thanks for the extensive review of our Seaterek tour. We do our very best to make our guests feel comfortable but also to run our tour safe.
It is a nice idea during the boat trip to the platform to serve a drink. Unfortunately, the boat trip's only 10 minutes and therefore too short to serve anything. In any case, thanks for your help! Maybe we can work on it in the future...........

“Such a surreal experience!”
Reviewed March 24, 2012

We had a great time doing this. The staff were really informative and friendly and gave a very detailed safety briefing before the dive. I felt very prepared before I climbed down the ladder. The experience was like nothing else I've done before. The water was murkier than expected but then again I've never been down that deep before. We had a group of 12 so we went down in two groups - I was in the first. Whilst we were waiting for the second group to finish their dive we were offered really tasty rum punch (complimentary - with refills) and were also offered some snorkel equipment to use whilst we waited so we could pass the time.
If you want the pictures from your dive they are available on a USB stick which you get there and then and cost $35. Not bad value considering you get lots of pics on it as well as some of their stock photos. Those of you that travel here on a cruise ship - you normally pay $15+ for a single print of a photo on board so compared to this it is totally good value.

I would definitely repeat this - possibly at a different location too.

“Felt very rushed.”
Reviewed February 28, 2012

My husband and I did this at one of ours stops on a cruise. The excursion itself was interesting. The staff was friendly but I felt rushed. They gave a quick intro to the gear and how to descend into the water. There was a group of about 15 and they did two tours. While the first group was in their tour the second group got to swim/ snorkel at leisure.

Once under water they take you on a "catwalk" tour. As they take pictures. When the tour was over. We quickly had to grab our personal belongings, quickly purchase the pictures if you wanted to buy and leave.

Overall it is overpriced and Would not recommend it. Just really felt rushed...

I'm very sorry you felt rushed. Unfortunately it was a very busy day and we ran behind schedule for a couple of reasons. Off course this must never be a reason for our guests to feel rushed and I sincerely apologize for that. Never the less I'm quite happy we never got reprimanded like this before and we'll do our best it will never happen again!
