Little Bay Beach is one of the most relaxing and beautiful beaches on the island. I come to this beach every year and in just a few hours of being on this beach a year’s worth of stress is just melted away. When I think of peace, a vision of this beach and its wonderful sounds and smells overwhelm me. The resort company Belair owns the Western side of the beach, while the resort company Divi owns the Eastern side. Both sides of the beach are easily accessible, but I believe the Divi owned side has more to offer. The calmest surf is found on the far eastern side. It is great for children. The slow crash of the waves is extremely peaceful. Behind this tranquil part of the beach is Divi’s Seabreeze Café that offers a wonderful variety of food and drink. There is a wonderful ecosystem of aquatic life along the rocks on the far eastern side of the beach, which makes for great snorkeling. As you move towards the west, the beach hosts a beach shack that offers a variety of equipment from snorkel gear to sand toys. The shack also offers jet skiing, which was great addition to my trip this year. This leads up to the main beach owned by Divi. It is large and has crystal clear water, soft sand, and is very clean. The beach is almost never packed with people so finding a chair should be easy. One exception would be during a busy cruise day in which grabbing a chair early in the morning would be ideal. The waves are a bit stronger on this part of the beach but they are still calm enough for children to play and allow for a relaxing swim. Gizmo’s bar lies behind this beach area and is great for a quick bite to eat. Gizmo, the parrot at the bar, is friendly and talkative. The bar also offers drink service on the beach so you do not need to get up out of the sun. This area is the best for just lying down, soaking up the sun, and enjoying the soft sounds and sweet smells of the ocean. Belair owns the side of the beach further west. This beach is smaller and is at a steeper incline, but still offers wonderfully soft sand and calm waves. Chairs are usually readily available. Like the other parts of the beach, this side offers a fantastic view of the never-ending blue ocean. A convenient and delicious addition to this part of the beach is the Gingerbread Café. This is Belair’s restaurant that sits right on the beach. The Gingerbread Café offers great views of the ocean and has an extremely friendly staff as well as great food. Overall, the Little Bay Beach is a serene and tranquil beach that has plenty of activities to offer, making it one of the best beaches on St. Maarten.
