Flamingo Beach Resort
Reviewed September 14, 2012

This resort is in a great location on a beautiful beach, but it doesn't reach it's full potential.

We stood in line for 30 mins at check in, and this is the only resort in the Caribbean that we have been to that doesn't greet it's guests with a rum punch.

We had a 1 bedroom unit that had a wonderful view of the beach. The unit was well equipped with high quality kitchen items and two 32" flat screen TV's. The bed was very comfortable. The A/C unit in the bedroom was very loud, though, and woke me up every time it cycled on. The toilet in the bathroom was like a marine toilet, which made for noisy flushes.

The beach was absolutely wonderful. Calm, clear waters, with plenty of room for everyone. We saw people at the beach when we woke up, and people were still there when we came back from dinner. The beach is clearly this resort's biggest plus.

The most friendly staffers are at Topper's (onsite restaurant) and those working the entrance gate. You can't charge drinks from the pool bar to the room, and they prefer cash not credit cards. My biggest complaint is that neither the front desk nor the activities desk would make dinner reservations for us. Such a minor complaint, but you would expect more service from a resort of this rating. The one time, the front desk person dialed the phone and handed it to me so I could talk to the restaurant, and the next time they told me that they can't make reservations for guests, so they couldn't help me. The activity desk told me they couldn't make any phone calls because they weren't allowed to have the access code. How is it possible that the activity desk can't make a phone call? She was very interested to ask (again) about signing me up for a timeshare sales presentation, though. Reservations might not be needed in September, but in February, this would be a big problem.

Overall - nice, clean units with sub-par toilets and A/C units, great beach, average pool, great location, poor service.

Room Tip: ! bedroom units in building 7 have wonderful ocean views

My review is way over due.. had a busy summer. I visited St.Martin in June and that was my second time in Flamingo Beach resort since two years ago . I do like that place a lot . Do not expect luxury with big pools and VIP service. But..rooms are descent ,we had a studio - love the kitchen since restaurants on the island are expensive ,we prepare our own food. People in the lobby are nice if you are nice to them. We had some issue with air conditioner since they couldn't fix it we got up grated to a suite for free. Big apartment on the 4th floor with absolutely beautiful view of the ocean. The beach on the property is great for swimming and scuba diving.Lots of fish in the water . We ate at Tappers couple times, food was O.K. and not cheap. There is a french little place a minute away from Flamingo that serves good breakfast and dinners. If you want to try local food just walk up stairs..good size portions for the money . Behind it you can find small groceries store but if you walk down the street pass casino there is a bigger one with fresh fruits and veggies. Rent a car and go explore the island ! St.Martin is beautiful with great beaches . Butterfly's farm is A must... we did Lambada cruise to Anguilla..love it! Time share people didn't bother us at the resort how ever we got pulled by a girl and she gave us lottery ticket with some winning numbers..we end it up in Marriott at time share scam ! But we had a great time and definitely we will return to the island and to Flamingo.

We came to St. Maarten not knowing anything about this wonderful island. Our room was amazing for the price. Very clean, spacious, and a fully stocked kitchen down to all stainless steel Cuisinart appliances. The staff was very friendly. The rooms do not get cleaned daily, but that didn't really make a difference. They had a laundry facility that was free to customers. The Peli Deli across the street was convenient, and lots of restaurants were in walking distance. We had no toilet issues as I have read some have, and checking in and out was a breeze. The check out time is a bit early, but all I had to do was go into the lobby and ask for a late check out time. They had no issues allowing it with no extra fee's. They definately have 2 loyal customers. We went in June, and are already are planning a return trip in March. One thing we learned the day before we left, in the lobby where they offer their free wifi, there are a bunch of brochures. One was for a company that offered a portable wifi device for a very reasonable weekly rate. You just return it when you head home. A definate next time.

This is a sort of "condo-hotel" where every room/suite has a pretty good kitchen equipped with better appliances than we have at home. We had an ocean view room from where we could see the beach, the sunsets and the arrivals and departures from the airport (yes this is a good thing).

Very happy with the room and it was very clean. The toilet seems to be an aircraft type flush so no possibility for a night-time visit without waking everybody!

Cleaning was done about every 3 days and this was about right. There were spare towels and sheets in the room too.

Service was good except the third party excursions desk was a little dozy and they got two bookings wrong.

This being a condo type place, we were pestered by time-share (or "points") salesmen. They seem to know when you have been there a few days as this drops off after a while.

There is a laundry room with free washers and dryers and a small charge for powder.

The pool was pretty nice (not quite as good as the photos) but we spent more time in the sea which was WAAARM! When it is calm you can indeed see some nice fish with a snorkel kit but this is not often. Better to take dedicated trips to reefs.

The on-site beach restaurant had a limited menu but ok for a quick meal or for one of the special events - try the Broadway Show there - you'll never forget it!

All in all, very happy but a note of caution generally, Sint Maarten is NOT bug-free. It's not a massive problem but take some repellent and avoid shorts dawn and dusk.

Room Tip: Ground floor ocean front suites don't have much privacy as a path runs along the front.

Delano at the front desk made sure our stay was five star all the way. We were there for 5 nights and for the most part Delano and the front desk staff were a breath of fresh air and really define the motto of Saint Maartin "the friendly island." The tall blond man who drives the shuttle was so patient and extremely accommodating. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable, complete with all modern appliances.

Room Tip: Ask for Delano at the front desk, he knows the property like the palm of his hands, and will provide...

You get what you pay for, that’s the obvious takeaway.

The room itself wasn't terrible, and the A/C worked well. Our oceanfront room was directly behind the exhaust pipe of toppers. Every time I stepped out on the patio, that was all I could smell. Walls are pretty thin; you can hear other people, and especially the screeching of chairs as they scrape across the floor of other rooms. The mattress was extremely hard.

Three times the housekeeping busted in without permission, once without knocking. I told her to leave (in my boxers). Very annoying, to say the least.

They have Dish network, but everyday that we watched something, a screen would come up on the TV saying that "service was about to expire". We could not dismiss the dialogue. I notified the staff but no one followed up.

Worst of all was when they incessantly kept pushing the timeshare. We were called in our room by a staff member, sounding cordial. She finally got down to what she wanted: Would we attend a special breakfast to hear about their timeshare (Diamond resorts)? We had no interest, but she kept on and on. Finally I had to cut her short. Next day, we were badgered at the front door as well (at the attractions desk), perhaps by the same woman that called us before. After glancing at my wife's wedding ring, she got even more aggressive, insisting that we go. We finally just walked off. Needless to say, we didn't book any attractions through the hotel, because we didn’t want to deal with this lady at all.

Lastly was the wifi. The pitiful wifi. I came here understanding full well that the only Wifi was in the clubhouse/lobby. They shouldn’t really advertise wifi at all, because it works half the time if you’re lucky. The speeds are ridiculous, pages load only halfway sometimes, if at all. Very frustrating when I was trying to figure out the weather situation (Isaac). My other source of information (TV) as I said before, we were often greeted with a giant graphic on the screen that prohibited us from watching.

A disappointment all the way around.

Room Tip: Don't get something behind Toppers, unless you love a fried smell.

We visit St. Maarten frequently, even though we live on a beach in Florida, love this area. We have stayed at this resort many times and find it very clean, friendly and accomodating and reasonably priced.. The staff is awesome, from the housekeepers, ground staff, front desk, manager and activities directors. Any problems or requests are resolved quickly, There are grocery facilities within walking distance, as the units have a full kitchen as well as nightlife, casino and restaurants. We will revisit again, same resort as soon as possible. We highly recommend.

Room Tip: Although all rooms seem to have a good view, we prefer the rooms facing the pool which also has a vi...
