“will be back again next year”
Reviewed August 16, 2011

We stayed at the Flamingo in June 2010 and liked it so much we went there again in June 2011. This time we had room 7501 (last year 7401) and it was really nice. Bathroom could have used a little upgrade, but it was clean. No problems at all, the staff was friendly and helpful, the meals were great. We ate at Topper's by the Sea (on the property) also Alexander's and Bon Appetit across the street are very reasonable. Went to Lee's and had a blast, as well as good food, tried Roma at the Pelican-a little deserted, but probably the best Chicken Parm I ever had. Took the water ride from Pelican to Marigot, great trip, Marigot sucks though. A little disappointed with no entertainment at Topper's, guess they cut back in the "slow" season. Had a little rain, but who cares? Try Sunset Beach Bar to see planes coming into the airport literally over your head
We met some really good people who we now call friends, looking forward to going the same week (maybe 2) next year. When you go to Topper's, make sure you talk to Nalia, the manager, she is a fantastic person, treats you like a friend.
People complain about the service and attitude here, we never experienced anything negative-remember--YOU TREAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU WANT TO BE TREATED.

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We had a nice studion room in a location that overlooked the pool and a beach on one side and a beach out our front door. We were worried that the studio would be too small but it was surprisingly roomy for the two of us. Our room ws on the fourth floor which was great for a beautiful overlook view and privacy. We switched my father-in-law's timeshare from Florida to the Flamingo. It cost $50 for Taxes and the $250 deposit was reasonable.

The location of this hotel is great because it's right on the beach and they're several restaurants that you can walk to. However, the toilet was leaking and we called several times and went to the front desk and no one came to fix it. It's good too, if you don't mind that no one comes to clean the room during your visit.

I had to book with Flamingo, as I had originally booked with Pelican, prior to their management change...I couldn't have been more happy. Our ocean front room was very clean and had all amenities desired. The beach is nice in size, and is shared with the Simpson Bay Resort next door. From the Flamingo you can easily walk to the nearby casino and a few bars. If you want to get to the main drag of Simpson Bay, expect a 15 minute walk, but a nice walk. The new grocery store at the base of the hill is a nice option for grabbing food and drink to stock in your room....or to take to the beach during the day. For the price, location, and friendly staff, I would certainly recommend the Flamingo for anyone's next trip to St Maarten.

We arrived at FBR around 1:30 on a Tuesday. No lines, check in was fast. However, our first room was in the dreaded building 3, Rm 3-201A. The room, a one bedroom, was fine but the view sucked!!!! We are Diamond Resort owners so we were surprised by the crappy room assignment. We asked and asked for a different room but heard, "NO we are completely booked." Well my husband is a tenacious fellow. He went back a few hours later and spoke to the shift manager, William. William reassigned us to a studio with an ocean view. We really liked the new rooms view, location and it was quite large even though it was a studio. I liked all the mirrors in the room, it made it easy to see the beautiful view from almost anywhere in the room.

We did encounter a few annoyances. First, they were having issues with the plumbing. I'd say there were only 2 days out of 7 that our toliets flushed every time. There was an annonying delay, of sometimes hours before the commode would flush. 2nd, we had to wash all of the dishes as they were clearly put away dirty. We had to request a DVD player but did receive one, except the remote didn't work so no fast forwarding, pausing etc. We had to remind the front desk by Saturday that we had not received our mid-week clean and when we did get it, they did not clean the slider or closet mirrors. Requesting towels was a pain, sometimes took 2 hours to receive new ones. But in the grande scheme of vacationing these issues weren't too big a deal. Have to say the room was quite comfortable and the AC was great!

We did not use the pool and quite enjoyed the beach. If you enter the water on the side of the beach by Topper's you won't encounter any rocks. It was really easy to get new beach towels, lounge chairs and umbrellas. We had so much fun at the beach. We also really enjoyed Toppers, ate there 7 or 8 times. It was so convenient and we all liked everything we tried. I especially liked the hanging kabob. It was expensive but everything on the island is compared to the US. We also enjoyed Bon Apeitite and Alexander's.(Cash only at Alexanders) If you rent a car, you must try Rainbow Cafe in Grand Case. It's fantastic!

We shopped at Grand Marche and Peli Deli. GM is a bit less expensive than Peli Deli, but both have good selection. Overall the resort staff were nice/friendly but there were a few that acted like we were inconveniencing them. Oh Well.

Overall we had a fantastic time!

After reading countless reviews on this and other properties on the island, we decided to stay at the Flamingo since it seemed overall to have really great reviews. I am so glad we did, no complaints and we are both picky.
Our room was ocean view and almost as big as our apartment, with a wonderful kitchen full of every amenity a chef could want. The bathroom was great a nice big shower with clothesline to dry your swimsuits, tons of storage. Plus on the balcony there was a table and chairs with a chaise lounge for extra relaxing or to get some great pics of planes taking off and making the turn home. I had read in other reviews the front desk wasn't pleasant, for us this was not the case, everyone we encountered that worked at this hotel was delightful and knowledgeable. The pool was full of kids but after 7pm they are all gone. The beach isn't Maho but it is great, it does have a few rocks and a bit of seaweed but its secluded, clean, and free. Also if you look across the street there is a restaurant called Bon Appetit, it is good but the restaruant above it "Alexanders" which I admit does look skechy had some of the best food we at with the best prices. The Peli Deli across the street in the shopping plaza also had every American convience we could want without hardly a mark-up, also around 8am they get fresh bread and pastries from a local bakery, perfect to bring back to your room. Toppers at the hotel is overpriced as the hotel no longer owns it, two daquiris for $16 was more than we paid anywhere else on the island, the food isn't great, walk across the street and get twice as much food for half the money.
There is only maid service once a week but we knew that coming into the stay and planned for it, she did a wonderful job. We had no safety issues and felt fine sitting on the beach until the morning hours

Room Tip: I emailed a few days ahead to request an ocean view room, it worked and we had one of the prime spot...
