Flamingo Beach Resort
Reviewed June 14, 2011

We last visited the Flamingo Beach Resort in 1998, and we're now sorry we didn't return to it before now.

Our first surprise was the airport....its a real one now instead of the small collection of buildings when we were there before. We travelled via Paris with Air France, and the flight was totally uneventful, as was our arrival, and within 50 minutes of landing, we were in our studio.

Last time we had an ocean view, and we were delighted to discover we were on the first floor, just round from Toppers Bar, and once again overlooking the bay. The studio was almost identical to what we remembered, but the bathroom (no bath) had been remodelled at some time, and it looked like there were new drawer fronts on all the cupboards. The only minor disappointment was the absence of flat screen tv's, almost ubiquitous now.

The weather was poor, overcast every day except one, and one day of tropical downpour. However, apart from the rainy day, we were on the beach, and still came home with a reasonable tan.

The staff are all very friendly, but as a previous correspondent mentioned, one maid service over a 7 day stay is below expectations. Also be aware that you will be charged a compulsory Government timeshare levy of US$50 and also have a $7 optional charity tax added to your final bill.

But the bottom line is....we had a very relaxing time, and definitely won't wait 13 years till we pay the Flamingo Beach Resort another visit.

We stayed at the Flamingo for a week for our anniversary. I have to say it is in a great location with walking distance to many restaurants and activities. It also has a nice beach that you were able to swim in which not all hotels along the strip did. The pool was nice and that was where majority of kids hung out. They also had activities going on from time to time which we participated in the crab racing. Topper's restaurant is located on the beach there and the only place to get food at the hotel. I was surprised that their happy hour special's weren't better priced as $6 for a mixed drink wasn't a great discount to me. They also advertise $1.25 beers but they are the small bottles! We went to the store and purchased our own alcohol and took a cooler to the beach each day.

The staff was friendly and very helpful. We rented a car for the last few days of our trip right from Hertz which is located in the lobby. We had no problem's with the car and everything was a smooth transaction. I would highly suggest checking out some of the other beaches and venturing to the French side. The island is easy to navigate and we did so with just a map. We also did the Lambada tour to Anguilla which I would highly recommend.

The only thing we really didn't like was they only cleaned our room once out of the 6 days we were there. It wasn't a huge deal but with sandy floors it would have been helpful. The rooms weren't the nicest we have stayed in and the air conditioner was so loud I had a hard time sleeping at night. The toilet also has the most forceful flush I have ever seen so make sure to keep the seat down when flushing. We are very easy going so not many things bother us. Overall it was a great stay. For the money the hotel is suitable but if you are looking for more than average don't get your hopes up. Also do not be fooled this hotel is not really located in Philipsburg, it is in Simpson Bay bordering Pelican Cay. We took a drive to Philipsburg and are happy we did not stay in that area.

My wife and I just returned from a 2 week vacation in St. Martin, and stayed our second year in a row at the Flamingo Beach Resort. In 2010 we were very well pleased with our stay there and gave it an overall rating of 5. However, this go around we can't. The staff at the Flamingo Beach were friendly , helpful, and accommodating, but issues arose at our rental that were not so easily resolved like we thought.
HOT WATER OR A LACK THERE OF. For several days it was lukewarm at best. They told us that there boilers were down, but for 4 days in a row??
Our condo leaked from the room upstairs. At times the ceiling tiles in our closet dripped. Management said they'd have it looked at, but I wonder if they ever did?
Everything else at our condo was satisfactory, but when your dealing with issues like water, it can sure put a damper on everything else. Oh Yeah..did I forget to mention it rained our first week down there??

My husband and I just returned from St Maarten last night. We stayed at the Flamingo Resort for 7 days and we were very content with the accommodations. Unit was clean, had everything you need if you want to cook your own meals etc. Front desk staff very professional and helpful. Quick check in/out. The resort location is great (only 3 miles from airport). Within walking distance to other resorts, casinos, restaurants, grocery store and water sports, shopping. Hollywood Casino is across the st from the resort. we won $225 after playing slots for 5 min. :) There is an activity desk on the beach so you can sign up for different activities and the prices are reasonable. Toppers restaurant served delicious meals. Drinks were quite good too. We took a short boat ride over to Marigot (french side) for shopping. The had great out door markets and restaurants. Great french pastry shops. The West Indies mall is very nice. small but very nice. We also ventured over to Phillipsburg. Very nice shopping area right along the water on the board walk. There's another area called Maho. If you get there. go to Cheri's cafe. Great food, good drink and good live music/comedien and there's a casino/club right next door. Wednesdays ladies drink for free. Oh, we went to Soprano's restaurant in Maho. Take my advice, save your $. Food was not good. Service was not good and it ain't authentic italian food. I give them a few years before they close down. there was only one other family in the entire restaurant when we were there...I should've known. I would strongly suggest renting a car to get around. It's hard to get lost and the maps are easy to follow. Take photos of your rental car before you take it off the lot though and use an American vendor (hertz, avis). we used a local vendor I think it was called ACE and they tried to rip us off. There were scratches all over the vehicle when before we took it but they say that new scratches were on the car when we returned it. My husband refused to pay and we went on our way but they will try to rip you off. Use an american vendor. Also, the roads (in town) are not good. Lots of pot holes an there is no shoulder on the sides of the road so its easy to accidentally drive off the road and hit gravel/dirt and damage your tire, which we did and had to use the spare tire.

Our place was at the Villas rooms 4201 A and B (2 bedroom lock off) It was huge…around 1700 square feet estimated. The place was very nice and had a beautiful view of the ocean. The only thing I had gripes about was that the couch was dirty. We put towels over it and sat on it. Further, they drill into you that you must lock your doors and secure your items; however, when we came back after the maids cleaned they left both of our sliding glass doors unlocked and a few of our windows unlocked as well. Thank goodness we went back to the room just as they left. Other than that it was an excellent value and very spacious. The kitchen had everything and we felt right at home.

We just returned from our vacation at The Flamingo Beach Resort and I must say they never let us down. We did an internal exchange with the resort this year and were very pleased with the unit. They accomodated my request for a ground floor unit as I am in need of knee replacements. I see some of the same staff faces year after year and they remain as pleasant as always. I have nothing bad to say. The beach is private and great. The unit was great and the staff was efficient and pleasant. It was nice to be greeted by so many pleasant people. We will definitely be back next year
