Fantastic hotel loads of FUN. Food was in a wide variety and excellent taste...workers was most efficent and always seem to have a warm smile as they greeted us... I must make mention of one specific worker who not only enhanced our stay but seem to go the distance in every aspect to make our vacation truly a bless an most memorable one " SHERYL" THE beautiful woman at the Bar by the pool i must say Thanks for every thing... hope to see u nex year same time.

Room Tip: Middle rooms was comfortable

The hotel is not what it describes it to be. Hotel is not a full service all inclusive hotel.
Only the ocean front rooms have liquor in the rooms.
Food is only serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
On some days it would have only pizza during the day. But even the pizza was limited. There was no hamburgers or hotdogs as advertised.
There was no snack bar or buffet that that people can go to through out the day.
Rooms were decent but not clean. You could see dirt on the tiles and mildew in the shower. Toilet handle was broken and sick kept backing up.
Half of the hotel staff was nice and professional, the other half was rude and not helpful.
There is no dance nightlife at the hotel, it was very simple. The entertainment is geared towards 50 and older crowd.
I have stayed at various all inclusive resorts and this one does not match the quality or service for the price of per day. I would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Only the ocean front rooms have liquor.

Vicky was the best worker at reception, smiling and very helpful.
She gave us a great welcome when we just got in, and kept on being nice, thoughtful and helpful throughout the whole stay. In general the energy at this hotel was nice, but food could have been better and a quicker service at the restaurant near the beach would have been nice. Overall it was enjoyable.

My husband and I stayed at Sonesta Great Bay June 9th-15th on our honeymoon. We enjoyed our stay but have a few things we would like to see improved.
Pros:
-Very quiet! We both work long hours and have very little down time so we enjoyed the quietness of the resort
-Beautiful views: We had an ocean view room in the apartment side. We sat on the balcony each morning and every evening/night
-Lobby Bar: Wish it was open more nights but Owen the bartender was awesome! Best staff interaction we had all week
-Beach chairs were always available with umbrellas
-Boardwalk to Philipsburg is only a few minutes walk away. We went into town on a day when there wasn't a cruise ship in port. Not all the shops and restaurants were open but we found a fun little beachfront bar for lunch and enjoyed the walk
-Excursion to Anguilla! This was, without a doubt, the BEST part of our trip. Our day consisted of taking the van transfer to Simpson Bay, speed boat ride to Anguilla, upon arrival you get into the tour guide van and they drive across the island to Shoal Bay. The daytrip includes lunch, beach chairs and snorkel gear. The day we took this trip there were only two other couples with us so it was like having a private beach. Beautiful views, clear blue water, sunny skies, reasonable drink prices. LOVED this part of our trip!!
-Our last full day we went to Maho Beach, visited Sonesta Maho, and watched planes arrive/depart from Sunset Bar & Grill-definitely worth the trip over, we had a blast

Cons:
-More bar options and more consistent hours. The sheet handed out at check-in says when each restaurant and bar will be open but when we would try to go, the bar or restaurant would be closed
-Staff attitudes: They seemed very inconvenienced by us and rather unhappy with their jobs (for the most part). Some employees were awesome, but most did not seem excited about life
-Food was mediocre at best. Limited options, hot food wasn't really hot, cold food wasn't really cold. Breakfast omelettes were good each morning, pizza at the waterfront cafe for lunch was delicious, lunch and dinner buffets were lacking

Overall we had a great time and enjoyed the relaxing experience. We will likely return to the island but would rent a villa or condo rather than stay at this resort.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are best!

Sonesta Great Bay sits on the beautiful bay and beach of Phillipsburg, St. Maarten. The resort has a marvelous island feel. The lobby is open air with large openings that allow a beautiful panoramic view of the pools, beach and the ocean. A grand staircase sweeps down to the pool deck. The pools include a forever pool with swimup bar and a more traditional pool area. The beach is beautiful white sand area with a cordoned off swim area that protects the swimmers from the ever present jet skis. The room was a standard hotel like room with a beautiful balcony overlooking the water. The tub in the bathroom was a bit of a challenge to enter as it was raised off the bathroom floor by several inches. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent at all three venues - the open air buffet was delightful, the food in the formal dining room was first rate, and the pizza/burger place was a nice change of pace. One of the huge benefits of this resort is that staying here also allows the tourist to use the sister resort at Maho Beach, swim in their beautiful pools, eat at their restaurants, park for $1 an hour and watch the jets coming into Princess Julianna Airport dive over the beach area.

Room Tip: Choose the ocean view rooms not the mountain view rooms. The view is worth the difference in price.

Nine of us stayed at the Sonesta Great Bay Resort and had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. We were warmly received by Vicky at the front desk and Edrick serving us drinks. Our rooms were clean and the view from the small balconies on the ocean front side were amazing. The food appealed to our entire group, there was always fresh fruit, salad, fish and other healthy foods. The infinity pool bar and bar upstairs (which we would liked to have been open on more days) were always staffed with friendly individuals.

It is an easy walk to town where one can get anything!

If I had to complain, it would be that there was no snorkeling directly from the beach, the bed could have been a little more padded and there was a daily charge for use of internet.

I would not recommend this resort if you are young and want a lot of night life and clubs and bars near by. There were also not a lot of young children around, but there is no kids club advertised. Our group was satisfied as we were not looking for a busy week.

We would go back again if we go to Sint Maarten. Thank you to all at Sonesta Great Bay, we had a great time!!

Room Tip: Get and oceanfront room, worth the cost.

Our vacation was great! Thanks Denroy!
First time to Saint Maarten and would definitely go back to this resort. Staff were great, especially Denroy, Entertainment Supervisor. He was great in motivating all the guests to get involved in the activities during the day; always had a smile. He knows how to make the guests feel special. Thanks Denroy. Sonesta is lucky to have you. The entertainment was good, disco with Dj Ferone. The location was great as we walked the beach to town most days and did some great jewelry shopping. We enjoyed the close proximity to the pool and beach. The food was good; however the rooms were a little dated. The bathroom definitely needed a renovation. We had a great vacation and will visit again.
