“We loved it so much, we got married there!”
Reviewed October 23, 2005

Our family stayed at Divi Little Bay in July 2002 for my graduation & had such a wonderful time then, that when we got engaged, we decided to have our destination wedding there. We got married in November 2004 & had 86 guests. Although the resort is not a five star (rated between 3-4 stars), what we got for the money was great. Most people paid between $126-$160 per night (for a studio w/kitchenette or a 1-bdrm/2 bath w/full kitchen). The rooms were not spotless, but clean & the views were breathtaking on either side (Little or Great Bay). The staff personifies the countries motto: "The Friendly Island". The staff is not fake, like in other tropical places, nor rude (as in places where they resent your presence--especially if you are of color). Because the resort is on its own peninsula, you get secluded comfort (no huge groups of vacationers), but its close to downtown Philipsburg & the club/bar/restaurant-filled area of Simpson Bay, near the airport.

The wedding was great (flowers, food, officiant) and the coordinator arranged it all (Lucie Davis, ---). The photographer, Jean Vallette, was wonderful & we got our pictures 3 days after the wedding, with negatives included in the price (they do not do that in the US)! The reception was in the restaurant & they transformed the room for an elegant formal affair. The Caribbean-style food at the reception was exceptional!!!!

Overall, don't expect Ritz Carlton-like amenities, but for the price, you cannot beat the comfort, service & friendliness of Divi Little Bay.

My girlfriend and I just got back from 5 days at Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, which literally sits on a peninsula, thus sharing two bays. We had a great time on the island!! (We do a lot of traveling and always refer to this site for frank, candid discussions about the resorts we intend to visit). We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen and two bathrooms, which looked over the larger bay towards Philipsburg and the Cruise ships; the smaller bay (Little Bay) was were the swimming and water sports took place. It was beautiful in the morning, and even better at night. Our room was spacious but not renovated. So, ask for one of the renovated units-they give them to owners as a priority, but worth a try asking. Also, take some bug repellant, the critters are there. Finally, they don't clean or change linens everyday, so be prepared. As for the rest of the resort: the beaches and pools were nice, security was present, the restaurant (we ate there once) was NOT that good (how could you mess up breakfast), but the location was excellent, convenient to all parts of the island and far enough from the airport not to be disturbed, and the staff was helpful, but not overly friendly. Definitely get a car and explore the French side and do some shopping. Don't know why they call it a "Resort and Casino", as we saw nothing that led us to believe that gambling was going on anywhere at the property!!! Finally, it is a timeshare, but the sales pitch was VERY minimal, and took exactly 1 hr (as promised). Much better than Mexico, where you can be tied up for hours. I recommend the place to everyone and we look forward to going back soon.

The hotel, like most on the Island, was kind of old, maybe built in the 70's, no rehabs. The rooms were much darker than the internet pictures on their website. The beach was very short and rocky. They claim there are 5 restaurants, but 3 are beach bars and one is a coffee shop. They actually have 1 restaurant. The people were all very nice. And the food was very good.

We stayed for a week a Divi and the location was beautiful. We didn't need to go anywhere else on the island to snorkel as this was good enough for us. We had three children with us and stayed near the beach most of the time. There were no crowds at all on the beach and some days it felt as if we had it all to ourselves. Our room was a little moldy smelling - it was a one bedroom condo on the first floor by the Great Bay side. Not the cleanest I have stayed in but someone did come everyday to collect the garbage which was a plus. We asked for a roll away bed the first night, never received it but then had it on our bill at the end of our stay. They did fix that though. This is not a bad place to stay. I think though that the rooms vary quite a bit in terms of cleanliness, up to date and repairs. It's not plush but not awful either. If you want a beach vacation where you really can just sit on the beach, read a book all week and relax then this is a really great place to stay.

I directed everyone to my trip reviews at ---- however for those who do not want to look elsewhere I will try to recap our last 3 visits to St. Maarten and also will do a report when we return from next trip this mid-August.
First trip was 3 years ago, I went with 6 teenagers and booked them in a 2 bedroom at the Pelican and I stayed in a studio at the Divi Little Bay. Hands down everyone much perferred to hang out at the Divi! We highly recommend it. Be sure to tell Leroy the Bartender that PBaker from MT says hello. He was great and could trust him to make virgin drinks for the teens without me getting a hassle from them. He was great at entertaining and keeping their interest. On that trip we rented jeep and toured several beaches (Our favorite was Dawn beach on the right border of French side and Dutch.) It was great for body surfing and nudity optional (the teens were grossed out, because all they saw were older men in thongs). LOL!!
As you can imagine with older teens we had a very busy nightlife, some of our favorites were ladies night at the Greenhouse in Phillipsburg and above all was the QClub!!! It was hands down the favorite and went all night with separate levels for different tastes of music and age groups.
I loved being able to get up in the morning and have a latte at the Divi internet/cafe shop.
2nd Trip was just my husband and myself last 4th of July week. It was wonderful, we managed at the last minutes 2 weeks before trip to get into a studio at the Pelican for $99.00 for the whole week through RCI points. We were impressed for the price, I will include photos of view from our balcony.
Since this was a last minute trip, we were on a $1000.00 budget and were surprised at how much we were able to do. We toured about 5 timeshares almost bought at 2, but decided to wait and see if we could up our RCI points instead for a better price. (Resorts that we considered Oyster Bay and Royal Islander, offered the best deals and friendliest staff and amenities) With these tours we were able to take an all day trip to Prickley Pear on the Lambada and enjoyed that (even though I had a major hang over from the night before) I enjoyed the snorkeling and crew of the Lambada. We also did a sunset dinner cruise on the Tango and enjoyed seeing St. Maarten from a boat and met some very nice people on board.
We enjoyed $80.00 off car rental at Unity Car Rental. We are using them again this Year, they are the best rate around and this year Michael is giving us a Jeep for $280.00 for 9 days. If interested email Michael at ---- please let him know that PBaker from MT sent you.
We enjoyed touring the beaches again and found Guana Bay Beach great for watching the waves.(Not recommended for swimming, dangerous undertow) We liked it for the peace and quiet.
We enjoyed dining at Lee's roadside grill. We did most of our cooking in our condo (Studio at Pelican had full kitchen) the grocery stores are easy to use and we found everything we usually get at home there.
Our favorite local store snack (Pelican's store) gouda cheese.
We took a drive through the extremely narrow streets of Phillipsburg and want to do more shopping this year since our budget will be bigger.
This year end of July we have a 3 bedroom Condo at Royal Islander Club la Terrasse.
This trip will be with our oldest son and his soon to be wife. We were most impressed with the friendliness of there staff when we toured this resort last summer. More to come when we get back from our trip...

I believe that the key to a good stay at Divi rests on two specific items: One, you should make sure you are staying in the 1-BR luxury timeshare units; and Two, realize that the staff does not believe in any sense of urgency so don't get frustrated!

We just returned from a 10 day visit at Divi during which we spent the first week in the 1 BR luxury suites which were AMAZING! Huge, clean, enough room to sleep six. We had beautiful views of little bay and were really pleased with the accommodations. Occasional leaks from the AC were the only downside. Excellent, roomy bathrooms including jacuzzi tubs, washer/dryer and great kitchen. With our rental car we were able to take advantage of the great location and tour the whole island. Our last two nights we stayed in one of the hotel rooms which happen to be on a pretty strip of the beach but are terrible with regards to mosquitoes and cleanliness. Don't expect to be able to use the phones easily on the resort because calling cards can't be used without major hassle (if at all) and direct dial to the states was $4.40/minute. Internet cafe was not bad.

The staff just does not seem to care about customer service. Don't expect the "customer is always right" mentality here - so be calm, cool and patient.

I had read some reviews before our trip and was a little skeptical. Upon arrival, we had checked in, unloaded our personals into our condo, had a car, and checked out the resort grounds, all within one hour. We had very helpful, friendly staff assisting us at all times. Our timeshare condo was huge, clean, not in perfect condition, but oh my, what awesome views we had of Great Bay and Little Bay. We toured the island and found that Little Bay at Divi was the best for snorkeling and swimming. The Divi pools were nice too. We cooked all of our meals in our condo which was very adequately furnished and did site seeing everyday. There are endless numbers of excursions to choose from. We took the sunset dinner cruise. The food was plentiful and we met the most wonderful people from Canada. (Lynn, James, Mom) if you read this - please call me - you know our names and we live in Shasta Lake, California. The beach bar, Gizmos was way too fun! We definately will return someday to Divi Little Bay Beach Resort. I do agree with a review that I read though, it is a three star resort at a five star location.
