Stayed 9 days over Christmas and it was one of the best vacations ever. If not for the bumpy start at the front desk, we would consider it The Best.
Arrived very tired after a long journey from the Pacific Northwest. Asked if the room was upper floor as requested via Expedia. Maria, the front desk person said that there was no such request in the system. Not our first time that it happened; that's why we always double check. We definitely wanted privacy and nice views for the 9-day-stay and celebrations of Christmas and our son's 16th birthday. Maria assured us with a smile that she indeed was giving us a nice room. Once we went there it turned out to be a ground floor unit. There was a pathway toward the beach right next to the patio. Shrubs and rocks from the seawall were covering the views. The exact opposite of all that we asked for.
We called immediately and to our luck another person responded - his name was Elvis. He immediately sent us to a different unit. Even though it was not quite ready yet, Elvis made sure that everything was taken care of as quickly as possible. He did save our entire stay there!
This unit was perfect - on the second floor and toward the top of the hill; views were gorgeous. Great private patio, spacious and very clean room, a huge bathroom with a corner Jacuzzi, lots of storage space, and a kitchenette equipped with everything needed (only a cutting board was missing).
The only request we had was to remove the rug (they did) since the tile floor itself is nicer and cleaner.
We loved the location of the resort. Surrounded by water - calm on the bay side with nice views to the beach and hills with some nicely illuminated mansions, and windy and rough on the other side looking toward Phillipsburg and the cruises dock. The wind was warm and a nice relief on hot days. Grounds are very well kept and beautiful, also worth exploring. Behind the property there are some ruins of a fort, not much left, but we had a very nice morning walk there.
We had a rental car arranged before arrival, so transfers and distances were not a problem at all. Shopping for necessities was a short drive away and so much fun in the mostly French chains. We could find so many European goodies, yummy pate's, cheeses, awesome sweets and great French hams. Carrefour has a huge variety of goods but the Marche chain is more homey and charming. Simple on the French side had even more variety. It comes less expensive in stores that use 1Euro=1$ rate.
Great bakeries are all over the island but we liked most the ones in Marigot. This is a very nice island and very well worth visiting. There are beautiful beaches all over; only the famous Oriental Beach was not our favorite.
Evenings on the patio with a glass of wine and variety of cheeses and music coming from the bar were the best. So were evening walks along the beach. And early breakfasts on the patio again before another day of exploring. We would go back to the Little Divi Resort in a heartbeat. Hopefully we can do again soon.
