“a great resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

We went to Divi little bay 2 years ago it was a great experience, staff were very friendly the rooms were updated and large enough for the two of us the accommodations were top of the line which included an infinity pool . The one down side is the second hot tub it was disgusting and crowded . . A great but expensive feature was the on site liquor/supermarket which is good to get a few items that you may run out of. The marque restaurant on site has great food but pricey. Driving on St Martin was horrendous not enough direction signs, narrow streets and circles designed to confuse you even more. However once you learn to navigate the island it is a great experience I strongly recommend spending a lot of time on the French side, slightly more expensive but gives you a great taste of the French culture. The Dutch side is older more congested. The Resort is on the Dutch side but the roads to the French side are easily accessible from the Resort .

We are owners at the Divi and have been pleased with our purchase. The resort locaiton is excellent and the staff is very friendly. It does take a few calls to actually get someone to respond to request like more towels etc but all in all- it is certainly good enough.

My only complaint is if you do not reserve beach chairs in the am- you run the risk of being shut out by cruisers who come to use the beach for the day. Seabreeze Cafe has good lunches that are reasonable and the bars are very good as well.

The fitness center is heavily used and could use some additional equipment but all in all- very good.

My husband insisted we take a 2 week vacation and go to DIvi Little Bay, but I really didn't want to go because it was so close to Christmas (Dec.4 - 22). But, I must say, once we got there, I absolutely fell in love with the place. We checked in at the outdoor desk and the folks there were friendly and answered our questions, invited us to the orientation the next morning. The first studio we were brought to was not ready for occupancy, so the gentleman who had brought us and our luggage up 3 flights, called the desk and got us into an another studio in the next building. Admitedly, that was not a promising start, but when we got into the next studio, it was lovely. The place was clean, nicely decorated with a great view of Little Bay and the ships that passed by every morning and evening. The bathroom had a large whirlpool, and a separate a large shower. The kitchen, while not huge, had everything that we needed. The young lady, Veronica, who cleaned our studio was wonderful. We could not have asked for more. She even left us fresh flowers. The balcony was the entire width of the room with 4 chairs, a table and a recliner/lounge. The beautiful beach is a short and very scenic walk away. I know that there is no such thing as a "private" beach on the island, but this is as close to private as you can come. There were times when we were the only ones in that beautiful, clear water. There were always chairs and umbrellas available. Sitting at Gizmo's bar & grill with a drink in hand in the evening watching the cruise ships leaving the island was so relaxing that it became a nightly ritual. The pools were well maintained, and there are hot tubs at almost every building. We had rental a car, but who needs a car when paradise is right there. We did go to Orient Beach one day, but the crowds and constant stream of passing vendors made it a less than pleasant day. We walked into Philipsburg - not a bad walk, but wear good walking shoes, not sandals. Also worth mentioning is the security - a gated entry, and officers patrolling the grounds. Everyone, from the folks at the main desk, the sales people, the folks at the restaurants & bars, the many maintenance staff went out of their way to be friendly, polite and helpful. This was probably the most restful vacation I have ever had and I was truly sorry to see it end. For certain, we will be back next year for 2 weeks... maybe even 3 weeks.

My wife and I are owners since '03. One week here, one week at another resort. We really like Divi. It is just what we want. The bad reviews seem to come from people that do not have island mentality. There will be sand in the pools, floors, all floors. It will be humid, with bugs. From time to time you will have to go to the front desk for soap and tp. When you check in it may take time, as there are many language's and needs all checking in around the same time. What is the hurry ? make a drink, go for a dip, sit at the beach and chill. The beach is great, snorkeling is good, well worth it. Rooms are fine & comfortable, 2 ice machines, daily papers if you need. We will be there spring '13. In my opinion, St.Maartin/St.Martin is perfect for adult couples, no place for young families. Long plane ride, hot airports, hot walks, a lot of adult activity and nobody wants/will change their trip for you.

Room Tip: Bring or by bug spray, use spf 30, rent a car,eat at beach bars. For day trips; ask Eugene, she real...

The picture shown on line was fantastic hotel and yes it was beautiful outside building( probably renovate only outside). The room was motel like(location was superb right on the beach) - we paid the king size deluxe room but no king size bed and was far from deluxe room- I was almost crying-old and dirty on top of that the service was poor. My leg beaten by the bug in the room and the bed was old especially the bathroom was not clean at all. Stayed one night and early in the morning checked out.
Booked from Agorda.com and they whould not accept my review of the hotel.( accept only good reviews ?)
Bed exprience........

Room Tip: Did not see a good rooms, we asked another room and the other was the same. We gave up.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. The views were the best we have ever seen even considering multiple cruises we have been on and we live in Sarasota, FL. The water in St Maarten is beautiful. The resort sits on a peninsula overlooking little bay and great bay. Our balcony overlooked little bay and a private beach. Cruise ships would go by each night at dusk which was a wonderful site. It's like your own little private paradise. Our front door and walkway overlooked great bay and downtown Phillipsburg and the port.

It is a quick car rental or taxi, which they have both onsite, to experience the entire island but you don't have to go far for nightlife, casino's, restaurants or shopping. We experienced a little of everything and had a great time. They say St Maarten is the Friendliest island in the carribean and that is what we experienced.

There is a great tiki bar overlooking the water to watch the cruise ships go out at night and get some great pizza and other foods during the day and evening. They had a nice happy hour each night and the last night there was a singer who was really good. We enjoyed sitting out there each night. There are a couple of pools and other restaurants including one with a good breakfast buffet. Generally we try and go offsite to experience the island that we are staying.

The only things we expected but did not get at the resort was a small fridge in our room. We would have liked to have had more than an ice bucket to store drinks and food. I am sure they offer an upgraded room with fridge. Usually when we stay on the beach here in FL we get a small fridge. I don't fault the hotel just be aware that it is not included even if you are staying right on the beach. Due to having a box of leftover pizza and no fridge there were some ants and the first night we left the door open with no screen and got some bites from the misquitos. Again, that is not a complaint, just thought you should be aware. The staff was friendly and helpful and happy to assist. We really enjoyed our honeymoon and plan on returning. I would highly recommend this resort if you are looking to relax in a quit setting which is family friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach front room with a fridge or small kitchen.

There are a few reasons why I wouldn't recommend this place. But you can trust me on one item, the food. With the exception of traditional bar food like pizza which hit the spot after a day in the sun, it's incredibly overpriced and haphazardly prepared at all three "restaurants". For the life of me I can't understand why a three star resort kitchen in the Caribbean would serve fish that was previously frozen. None of us really enjoyed anything we ate there and the house wine tasted like sweet rocket fuel hooch. Also, be sure to stay away from the calamari. It came without tentacles, tasted a bit porky and was super greasy. It lead me to start believing in the imitation calamari urban myth.

If you stay here, you'd do well to head into Philipsburg for dinner. It's a quick walk to Antoine's which was top-notch.

Additionally, we shared our bathroom with hordes of mosquitos. Because it was window-less, the only logical conclusion we could come up with was that they were living in the walls and/or vents. The walls would be a good bet, as the wood on the wood-framed walls was nearly rotted through. Other than that and the broken screen-door leading to the patio which the hotel wouldn't fix, the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The blender in our room was clutch. It saved us from the hotel's horrid coconut-water pina coladas.

On the positive side of things, the resort's beach was very nice. The park on the top of the cliffs was beautiful. I'd only recommend staying here if you can secure a decent rate and you have a rental car with intent to travel. We had a great time driving to Orient Bay and several other points around the island.
