“Ending a great vacation”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

I consider myself very lucky to have found this place 13 years ago, my wife and I have had many great weeks here and on the island. Recently the hotel put in new couches on the first floor, next year they will do the same to anther floor, showing they do care about the property, and continue to upgrade it every year. Once again the staff and management are always willing to talk to u and take your comments very serious. This year the beach is just great, no drop offs, lots of sand, and no rocks or stones. We are just finishing our vacation and are looking forward to returning to Belair Beach Hotel next December.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the ocean, first floor is easier access to the beach but u would get a better vie...

then this one is for you! Hotel must have been built in 1960 and has not been updated since. The lobby is dingy with two sad sagging couches . . . . .what a great start. You have to leave a deposit for 2 remote controls and your safe key. There's another clue that this is not a great place. Upon entering our room, we were greeted by a terrible smell coming from the air conditioning that was being "masked" (unsuccessfully) with some type of room freshener that would choke a horse. The curtains were fashioned out of shower curtain fabric and the beds were incredibly old and sagging. No iron or shampoo in the room. . . . . at $400 a night you think you'd get a bottle of shampoo. Let me now take you to the beach. . . . . . the beach is beautiful (but that's mother nature NOT the hotel). The towels we got from the cabanna we spotted with what I hope was red cool-aid and not something grosser and if you like swimming in a pool with bugs, small sand crabs and other various and assorted debris JUMP RIGHT IN. Who ever gave this a 4 or 5 star rating should have there head examined. It was so bad that we stayed only one night and moved on.

My husband and I recently returned from our second stay at Belair Beach Hotel on the Dutch side of St. Martin which is just a mile away from Phillipsburg down town shopping. We stayed on the 4th floor each time, but this year our two bedroom unit had new very comfortable mattress and pillows. The unit which has a full size fridge, top stove, microwave and a wide screen TV was very clean and appeared to have been recently painted. This is not a 4 or 5 star resort, but if you're looking for great views of the beautiful ocean, watching cruise ships entering Phillipsburg, lots of relaxation, white soft sandy beach just a stone throw from your room, and warm turquoise water great for swimming, this is the place for you. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cheers to Susan, the manager, for for adopting a couple of pets and paying for them to be spayed and neutered!!
One suggestion is to take "Off" mosquito spray for yourself if you sit out on the large balcony at night to enjoy the the beautiful sunset, ambience of the night and the sounds of the ocean.
The Grand Marche' grocery store, where there is a great selection of food, wine, and beer is about 5 minutes away. There is also a small convenient store called Jody's on the first floor of hotel where you can buy snacks, drinks and beer.
This hotel is definitely a hidden peaceful place in the sun !!

We stayed at the Belair on a timeshare exchange. We were already very well acquainted with the island, so while I thought it was a central location, I would have preferred to be on the French side. This is still the case, but as far as a Dutch side location, it was great. Very easy to get to Simpson Bay, Cole Bay, P'Burg, etc, but not loud or right on the highway or anything like that. The staff was genuine and accommodating, and we didn't get any hard sell of the timeshare as sometimes can happen. The beach was lovely - not very wide, but not crowded at all and very pretty. The Divi next door seemed much more crowded, loud, touristy, and unappealing in general, in part because it is much bigger. Not a ton of amenities, but we weren't looking for that at all. The room was great - all rooms face out to the ocean and have balconies or a deck (on the 1st floor). A little outdated, but absolutely immaculate and perfectly functional. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a great location right on a 2 mile beach with only 2 resorts sharing the beach. Located on Little Bay (next to Great Bay where Philipsburg and cruise ships are located) Easily walkable into town if you are in half decent shape. Main floor units are walkout to the beach however all units face the beach directly. there is a mini-mart right in the hotel (and the hotel next door) restaurant (serves great conch fritters and calamari and Monday night BBQ but not the best decor). There is a pool and laundry facilities. Units have a small kitchen but it is all you really need. There is a car rental agency located at the hotel (Star-Lite car rental) that give great rates to hotel guests (ask for Kevin as he will treat you right) and they are very accomodating (they will even pick you up at the airport with your car so you save the taxi fee to the resort)
If you want serious R & R then this beach is for you as it is quiet and beautiful. Hotel is a bit dated but we all get that way as we age!!!

Room Tip: If you have kids, try and get a main floor walk out. They have little foot wash taps outside the do...

I have stayed several places on Saint Maarten over the last three visits and I had the most fun here. This is one of the first beach resorts built between Phillipsburg and Simpson Bay on the Dutch side. From the road above, a row of Battlements on the roof makes this resort look like the top of a castle.

The front desk staff and security guards are very friendly and enjoy a good joke or two. Four of us stayed in a two bedroom suite that had a full size refrigerator and stove, plus a nice size living room and balcony. We were on the second floor but they have a new Otis elevator if you are too tired to clime the stairs.

There are many planed get-to-gathers during the week in the bar/dining area. All you can eat jerk chicken was my favorite which included a steel drum band. Nothing strange about the breakfast here. I ordered Bacon, Eggs and Country potatoes with toast. Good Coffee.

This Small Bay beach is perfect for sunning because it faces South and it's not too windy. The French side of the Island faces East, the Atlantic and it's windy. Unlike most places I've stayed, the beach staff will put your name on your beach chairs and umbrella to keep them yours.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the Ocean. You get the best view from the seconf floor.
