We own a timeshare at the Belair and have been going since 1995. Athough it is dated and older than most of the flashy resorts, we love it and call it home once a year!!! The Belair is close to Phillipsburg and its a very convenient location to the airport also. The room could use some updating, but it works for us. We have a two bedroom and go each year with my sister and nephew and all of us sleep comfortably. The beach is beautiful. The pool, which is small, works for us. We love the Belair. Jodi, owns "Jodi's" a little store in the hotel and she has seen my son grow up and gets so excited to see us yearly. The rent-a-car guys, Kevin and Zekie no us by name when we get off the plane. They have our car ready and waiting for us. All in all, we love the Belair!!!

Had read reviews before we booked and were not sure what we would find. What we found was a charming, small hotel on a lovely beach. The rooms are not fancy but they have everything you need. We had a two bedroom, two bathroom unit. There was a private bathroom in the master with a shower in the tub. There was a second bathroom that could be entered from the hall or the small bedroom. This had just a shower. The small bedroom was a bit dreary. We were glad we had not brought another couple but it would work fine for children. The furniture is white wicker. Everything is a bit dated but clean and functional. You do not have the latest TV's (one in the master and one in the living room) but you have a good selection of stations. Personally, I would rather have a great choice of stations than a fancy tv.

The resort has solved the traditional time share problem of chairs. You get to pick your chairs at the beginning of the week and they are yours. No need to rise at 6 am to claim chairs. There is a small pool, a small restaurant and a small shop on the grounds. As I said, the reosrt has everything you need just not fancy and updated. The staff were extremely helpful especially the lovely ladies at the front desk.

RCI trades only get cleaning once a week, Owners get cleaning every day.

This is a place where you can relax and enjoy. You don't even need a coverup to go from your room to the beach. If you can be happy with simple and functional you will enjoy this resort.

The hotel is in a great location - beautiful quiet bay and close to Phillipsburg and Simpson Bay area. Although it is an older hotel, our two bedroom unit was larger than expected and very clean. The kitchen has a two burner stove, microwave and toaster oven (fridge of course) but that was more than adequate for us. The view from the room was gorgeous and the beach area was lovely - not crowded at all. Staff was friendly and plentiful, didn't worry about security here. We did have some issues with the internet, had to walk next door to Divi to pick up a signal most of the time but were told it was the provider. Probably so since others have reported no issues earlier. Rented a car through the hotel, great choice! It was waiting for us when the plane arrived, Kevin handed us the keys and we took off to the hotel....drove it back for our departure and they were they to take it back. The Monday night buffet at the restaurant was wonderful, be sure and get there early for the wine and cheese party! I would rate it 5 star, but this in an older facility and don't want to mislead, this is not a 5 star with all the bells and whistles (spa, hot tub, etc) but it is all you need on this beautiful island! Get out your flip flops and t-shirts and head to the Belair for a week (or more) of relaxation and fun!

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view of the ocean (which is very close), all rooms have an outstanding v...

LIVE review, this means we are still there...so this is like a report, the manager is invited to read, consider and maybe react to, if all he/she does is deny and negate well that gives you an idea of what is here right, you then choose to stay at your own peril

One the idea of friendly is not. The concept of sullen and disinterested is. ANY vacation is about escape, any hotel catering to a vacationer is about customer service...in a sense sales of the hotel as a good choice and good referral. This place so far has zero customer service. People working here do not say hello, good morning, how is your stay, they do not smile or return a smile. The towel person likes to wear a hat with a cute fish but he is not friendly, nice nothing. I would think a manager would start his employees off educating them on what is most important to his/her business; making the guest happy and feel appreciated. This could mean refresher courses, morning meetings, occasional reports from the guests (this?)
Maybe things will get better but so far we have sullen, unfriendly workers (thats what they are)
un-swept beaches and just generally a attitude of guests intruding on the working hanging around...Having been in MANY hotels/resorts I know this is not right and will place a final review later....

We arrived Saturday, October 12, 2013, for a week long vacation. We stayed in a two bedroom unit. The master bedroom was large with a king size bed and full bathroom. The second bedroom was rather small with an adjoining bathroom - let's face it, how long are you in a bedroom anyways when you have a view like this???? The view was breathtaking, each until has an ocean view. No complaints about that! Your beach chairs are assigned to you at the beginning of the week and are yours for as long as you're there. The Gingerbread Cafe was good for grabbing a bite to eat or a nice cocktail. Jody's Place was a small store but had everything you needed - food, drinks, SUN SCREEN! Everyone was friendly and competent.

Lorna, the activities specialist, was great! She recommended the day long Garfield snorkeling tour - it was the highlight of our vacation! We also rented a car from Starlite which was located right at the hotel. Kevin picked us up from the airport and brought us to the Belair! (He also drove us to the airport for our departure).

The only draw back was that I noticed there were tiny bugs in the kitchen area. We were just careful not to leave any food out. If we ever get back to St. Maartin, I would definitely return here!

Room Tip: Ask for the third or fourth floor - higher up equals better views!

The resort is older but that is because they built on the best place on the island. Right between Simpson Bay and Philipsburg. It is just 10 minutes from the dive shop we used (Ocean Explorers) which was very convenient. It has it's own beach and they assign you your own chairs and umbrella for the week. Every room has a perfect view of the ocean and beach (we were on the 4th floor). The restaurant is good and drink prices are reasonable. The decor isn't fancy but it was fine for us. Staff is friendly, helpful, and competent. Some mechanical problems but the facility is generally well maintained for its age. The air conditioning and the internet works well. If we come back to St. Maarten we'll stay here again.

Room Tip: Ground floor for direct access to the beach. Upper floor for better ocean view.

This location of this resort is wonderful. The view is breathtaking. Situated right in the middle of all activities. Right to shopping area and downtown Philipsburg and docks, and left to Simpson Bay with all the restaurants, and bars...
Staff was very nice...grounds were kept vety clean. Only complaint....the elevator in lobby area does not work more than it works. If your room is located on 4 th floor. This gets to be an issue on a daily basis. I read about this elevator in past reviews. Should figure out problem and fix it once and for all..

Room Tip: All rooms the same....i recommend 1rst floor if you want to walk out to beach. 4th floor if you want...

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Living in "Paradise" does have it drawbacks. On this tiny island, you cannot always get what you need. Otis Elevator has been here numerous times. They even sent an engineer. They cannot find what is wrong with the elevator. Each time they come, they order different parts and try to see if this will work. Unfortunately they still do not understand why it keeps stopping. It is not that we don't try. We are waiting now for new parts. Fortunately we have another elevator in the center of building.
Hopefully they will find the cause of the problem before your next visit!!
