“Jade Mountain is AWESOME!”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Every suite has it's own vanishing edge swimming pool. be sure that you are there during the good weather, as every suite is OPEN AIR!

When things got breezy, we had to weigh things down to keep them from blowing around.

Even with the open air suites, they had lots of privacy. The furnishings are first rate, as is the service.

This is an EXPENSIVE resort. But everything is first rate - the site, the architecture, the views,
the staff, the food.

Room Tip: Every room is a good room - but the best are the highest ones. There is no one above you to "d...

We are probably not your typical Jade Mountain Resort guest since neither of us like heat, humidity and night life…but we chose it because we desired to escape the winter blahs and sought a romantic and relaxing getaway...and we got that! We are 59/68 in age and physically fit. When initially entering our “sanctuary” (JA3), the following words immediately came to mind: spectacular, unbelievable, WOW …but the room was very warm since it was late in the afternoon at the height of heat with sun shining on half of the living area. We saw hummingbirds “nectaring” flowers at the edge of our room…and heard a tree frog which would not shut up. Each sanctuary is assigned a Major Domo (butler) to handle your needs. Later, when going to dinner, we asked our Major Domo about quieting the tree frog and the Major Domo said “you are in the tropics”.

We knew beforehand that Jade Mountain does not offer air conditioning, radios, TV, etc., but it does have Wi-Fi in each room so we were able to stream a radio station from Chicago on our iPad. We also brought a portable DVD player and several books. There are no elevators, and it is 150 stair steps up to the Jade Mountain Club where we ate breakfast and dinner. Some of the rooms offer a 270o view, while our “Star” had 180o. Almost all face southwest…so the sun shines in all day long. Because of our late afternoon arrival, “preferred” dinner seating times were already chosen. This was not a problem for us since we enjoy eating early (6:30pm), but one might want to request a specific time (and possibly book a tour) before arriving.

At the “Club”, we found the wait staff wonderful and the food delightful with a nice presentation. Waiters were very attentive; however, our dinner was always at 6:30pm – felt less attentive around 8pm as staff had many more tables to wait on. The “Club” offered serenity and romantic/picturesque views. There was live music that Saturday night.

First night’s sleep – not a good night! The tree frog’s high pitched sound carried on all night long. Because of the open wall, we heard several guests enjoying themselves until about midnight. Believe there had been a wedding and a few of the attendees might have had too much liquor. Could not figure out how to adjust bed fan to lower speed – but was able to the following morning. It appears that the majority of guests are night people. While it appears that most enjoy breakfast in their rooms, we chose to eat our meals at the Jade Mountain Club. My wife found this serene and peaceful.

The private beach (Anse Chastanet) is at least 150 stair steps down a relatively steep road. However, a shuttle can be arranged. The beach is small but clean – probably 30 huts for shade. Many Anse Chastanet guests go down early to “reserve” huts closest to the water. We went to “orientation” at 10am - which was not necessary since we knew just about everything we needed to know having walked the grounds. Since it was too late to make any tour reservations that day, we spent the day in our room – swimming in our infinity pool, reading and watching DVD. Less offensive tree frog and music noise the balance of our nights.

They grow their own organic vegetables, fruits and flowers (Emerald Estate) and they say the fish is fresh, including lobster. Al, our Major Domo, was excellent. Mervyn was very good. Since they had not cleaned our room by 1pm on Sunday, we requested housekeeping clean our room early each morning since we are early risers. Turn down service was accomplished before our return from dinner – except the last night. Ugh! Had to request ice 1st day, but it was there each day thereafter.

Liked:
• Rooms – what not to like (other than thermal comfort)? – Infinity pool, spacious, romantic, very clean – gave an afternoon Bento Box.
• The “Club” for breakfast and dinner
• Staff - very friendly and professional.
• Common area/grounds kept very clean.
• Tours were very good.
Disliked:
• Constant heat and humidity – very little let up at night – air conditioning would be nice - but we knew that before going.
• No TV, radio or clock – but we knew that before going and came prepared.
• Wines were decent, but it appears they only stocked 2-3 bottles of each, so if you liked one you were out of luck the next night.
• Pillows were too firm.
• Younger group of guests with music going until 11pm. Remember: the rooms are open.
• Unsure of gratuities – since they charge a 10% service charge on everything. Does that cover none, part or all? Obviously the Major Domos expected a gratuity.

This was a spectacular property. The views were wonderful, the service was outstanding. The food is very good, and we had room service provided by our own butler. Everyone was very accomodating. I would recommend it highly.

Wow. Structurally marvellous; one of the few hotels in the world surely, where each room has its own pool, no fourth wall and a jaw-dropping view of the pitons (the sanctuaries even have their own entry via a bridge); this also makes it an ideal honeymoon destination. With your own butler, and a very good restaurant upstairs, you can easily stay happily marooned at Jade for about three days. They staff even drop a snack box to you at around 4pm. And when you do want to venture out, Anse Chasenet and the beach has all the usual resort facilities. A stand-out example of architecture.

We recently visited this beautiful property when we were sailing up the island chain. We thoroughly enjoyed taking a tour of this property. We were staying a yacht, so we did not stay in the hotel. However, we did get a spectacular tour of the rooms and enjoyed a great dinner and drinks at the restaurant. SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF THE PITONS!

Room Tip: The rooms were beautiful complete with their own swimming pool. The only thing that we thought was...

The staff are so welcoming, the food at Jade Mountain is fantastic and creative and the experience can be anything from time in the awesome room/infinity pool, to jungle mountain biking to snorkeling and beach time. Do not miss the burgers at Anse Mamin beach.

Room Tip: Galaxy suites are unbelievable...JD1 the best.

Jade Mountain is a great experience. We were there for 6 days the week after Thanksgiving,

Best attributes:
Service - sincere and motivated service people across the board. It is what you read here on TA.
Rooms - unique, clean, best views. Pool is worth the extra v no pool in room.

Of note:
Bugs- no bites in 6 days on wife or me. Little harmless critters do roam freely.
Fitness center- very small and poor views from lowest level of resort - 7 separate levels to resort.
Food - very good but not incredible. Relative to options available, it is very good.
Beach - brown sand gets hot, not white sand beach on premises.
Butlers - great concept and valuable asset that comes with the package.
Spa - expensive but very good. We were happy and pleased with our massages.
Steps - counted 312 total incremental steps up from beach to our level 2 room at Jade. We are in shape and welcome the exercise, but not a place for those health-challenged.
Room temperature - no A/C obviously. A little warm at night to start - around 11p.. Cooled down to comfortable levels around 2am each evening where a single sheet was comfortable.

Bottom line: a unique experience that we are happy we experienced. It is a very expensive trip and I'm not sure I can say the overall cost is easily or completely worth the expense. This statement is more about the exorbitant cost and not about the quality of the resort, which is top-notch.

Room Tip: Rooms exist on levels 2 thru 6. First (lowest) floor has rooms with no pool, fitness center and spa...
