I stated at the Fond Doux Plantation in th beginning of the year. I must state my dissatisfaction of the service I got there. There were rats running on the property. The owner she cannot even hold a decent conversation. Apart from the wonderful staff, this place is a hell hole. Would not recommend to anyone.

In Response to this review, we wish to state the following information about Fond Doux.
The property is in a tropical setting and is ecofriendly. Being ecofriendly is not limited to only plant life but also includes wildlife. Therefore when one chooses to visit Fond Doux, one can only expect that there is a chance of them coming across bats, possums, field rats, grasshoppers, lizards, butterflies, birds, caterpillars & flying insects.
We do our best to keep the numbers to a minimum however, in an area as densely forested as Fond Doux, it is highly unlikely to not encounter the odd animal. For one to allude that this is a sign of filth is very unfair.

It is obvious that he/she does not understand the concept of Fond Doux. We have been in this business for a number of years and have never had such negative remarks from any of our guests. We aim to provide excellent service and unquestionable hospitality throughout their stay here at Fond Doux.
Fond Doux appeals to a certain clientele i.e. nature lovers. If this is not your preference then this is not the place for you.

When planning our honeymoon at the start of this year we read about the Fond Doux Estate on this website. We were really attracted by the colonial style cottages and the chance to see a working cocoa plantation (a particular attraction for my chocaholic wife)- something a bit different for our second week after some quality beach time.

Money being a little tight, we booked a room in the main house. However, upon arrival, we were upgraded to the lovely African Tulip Cottage, situated in a private location in the botanical gardens. The special treatment from staff continued throughout our stay. The cottage was decorated with flowers and the fridge well stocked ready for breakfast or an evening beer on the verandah. We were also treated to a private tour of the stunning gardens and plantation.

We spent an evening at a nearby 'all-inclusive' hotel for a change of scenery and realised how much it was lacking compared to the Fond Doux Estate. If you want great local food and good company from the kitchen and bar staff then the Fond Doux Estate is for you.

The estate relies far more on tourism than cocoa these days (it only exports about a tonne a year) so don't expect a bustling enterprise. The estate is very tranquil, the pools were our own virtually every day and our walks around the beautiful gardens interrupted only by friendly 'hellos' from the occasional gardener. Unless you're looking for a very quiet holiday, you'll need a car to get out to the beaches and to explore the attractions.

Fond Deux is the perfect base to explore the West and South sides of the island. We recommend the beach north of Soufriere (Anse Chastenet), Diamond Falls, the drive-through volcano, Jalousie Beach (all beaches in St Lucia are public regardless of the fancy resorts next to them) and Sunday brunch at Dasheen restaurant.

The setting, the cottages, the flowers, the antiques, the thoughtful owners, and the quiet all added up to a very romantic, indescribable experience. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

How can you describe a place like Fond Doux?....Incredible, beautiful, friendly, family! A multitude of adjectives comes to my mind! One thing is for sure we had a fantastic time and no place can equal their friendliness. We stayed for two weeks -first week and a half at the Cinammon cottage and then at the Banana Tree cottage. Both were superb for different reasons, but both are equally romantic. The Cinammon is situated at the end of a path where you will find the Angelina, then the African tulip, the Bamboo and finally the Cinammon. All are well spaced so you dont feel like you have neighbours. The Cinammon is surrounded by lush planting and obviously Cinnamon trees! There is a terrace at the front where you can chill in lovely rocking chairs, inside there is all you need. By the way the bed is HUGE! (Maybe why this cottage is popular with honeymoon couples!)
The Banana Tree cottage is situated near the pools and is far away from everything, it is elevated so you have a view of the Plantation from the balcony and you can chill in a Hammock! It is about the same size than the Cinnamon (but the bed is smaller...depends what you like!). Personally we prefered the Banana tree for the terrace and the feeling of being away from it all, but I guess that will only depend of personal preferences! (It is only 2 months old)
The whole plantation is fantastic to visit and walk around and when you stay there you can just walk up your cottage and pick some mangoes, bananas, passion fruits, lime and so on to snack on! You can go to the pool if you like and have a dip to refresh (they also have some games you can enjoy like badminton, volley in the pool or basket ball there!).
I would like to highlight a MAIN feature of Fond Doux now and it is the STAFF!!! Of course Eroline and Lyton are fantastic and welcoming (always ready to have a chat and a drink) but also the rest of the staff. We had our 5th anniversary there and believe me it will be hard to beat! They woke us up with a special breakfast (carved cocoa filled with fruits, bakes and lovely jams), then lunch on the grounds of the plantation with special flowers everywhere and finally a party by the pool with musicians and buffet! They even gave us a present! Every details were fantastic! Thanks girls!
Finally a special thanks and big kiss to Ghilda who is the best cook of the island!! Believe me we went to other big restaurants around and after two weeks we were just coming back to enjoy all her lovely cooking -from the green mango salads to the fish with chillies or her fantastic and tasty chicken dish. My husband got addicted to her fish baguette and myself to her bakes (which she showed me how to do in the kitchen!).
Of course the car we rented was really useful but you could easily pass by with some taxis if you wanted to. We loved Anse Chastenet beach and we were driving to Soufriere and then taking a water taxi there which was great (great reef there). You can also do some trails from the Plantation and I would recommand Tet Paul. But for everything ask Lyton or the reception -they will arrange everything for you!
Thank you thank you thank you SO much everyone and I wish you all, all the best and hope we can come and see all of you soon!

This review is better late than never. I wanted to write a review of our wonderful vacation at the Fond Doux Plantation from last winter. I was there with my husband and son and we enjoyed every moment at this wonderful place. It is truly magical and beautiful. The owners and the staff bent over backwards to make our stay here memorable and relaxing. As the owners of our own inn outside Cooperstown NY, we are very picky when we go on vacation and we have high standards. The owners of this plantation obviously care about their guests and take great pride in making sure that every guest is taken care of. I would highly recommend the Fond Doux to everyone visiting Soufriere.

Fond Doux is really a magical place. And the staff keep it magical.

The taxi driver Marcus is one of the very few honest taxi drivers we met in St Lucia.

1 word to sum up Fond Doux : GENUINE.
So if you're looking for something impeccable with perfect (but fake) smiles and perfect everything it is not the right place : it is more of a rustic, simple and human way. And its few defects make it even more charming and genuine.

Although a little late (we stayed here in February), I still wanted to put in my review of Fond Doux because we enjoyed it so much.

We had a total of 4 people (2 couples in our mid-twenties) and stayed in the Cocoa Tree House (which was a free upgrade!). We absolutely loved the cottage and the plantation. I think the word 'plantation' fits better than 'hotel' because we truly felt like house guests staying there. Upon asking how late the pool was open one night, the response was 'just turn off the lights when you're done' - perfect :)

I really fell in love with the place - the fresh grapefruit that we picked from the tree in our front yard for breakfast every morning, beautiful flowers, and such an interesting history behind the plantation. The food at the restaurant was very good, and we ate there a couple times for lunch and dinner. The staff was very nice and very accomodating - one night when we had chosen to cook dinner for ourselves at the cottage, they called before they shut down the restaurant for the night to make sure we weren't planning to eat there.

We also had the pleasure to meet and talk with the owners, the Lamontagnes. They welcomed us as though we were family staying there. We were very impressed with their vision for sustainability and how they have made Fond Doux all organic. You can tell they really care about the environment and the people of St. Lucia and their guests.

While we were there, we hiked two of the trails that start on or near the grounds. The one was definitely a climb but was very nice for sunset, although I'd recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight for the way down. The other I can't remember the name of but it starts up the road right near the entrance to Fond Doux. That trail had incredible views of the Pitons and the landscape inland and is absolutley a must-see. We also hiked the Gros Piton and although very strenuous, was an awesome experience as well.

The Lamontagnes recommended a cab driver which we used for the rest of our time there, very friendly and more reasonably priced than others.

We also ate at Ladera for lunch, and visited Jalousie beach while staying at Fond Doux., and would definitely recommend both, especially Ladera - the view is incredible and the food very good.

Thanks to everyone at Fond Doux for such a wonderful stay!
